Watching Ah Fu’s figure as it disappeared, Wen Yixian felt her unease intensifying. She glanced at the soldiers she had brought from Guanglan Base and then at those from the Yindan Base. She knew she had to leave. Somebody had calculated a trap for Yindan Base and if she did not leave soon, she might die there. She was unsure who that someone was and why they had caused a horde of zombies to attack Yindan Base. What could that person possibly gain from such a move?

Perhaps her inability to understand was because she had failed to look at the situation from the person’s perspective, but she couldn’t be bothered. She had to leave, to abandon her soldiers.

She took out her mobile phone and dialed Ai Li’s number. Yet, despite the relentless series of dial tones, nobody answered the phone. Growing impatient, she contemplated abandoning Ai Li as well.

Suddenly, a figure approached from down the path.

"Miss, is everything okay?"

It was Ai Li, still holding his continuously vibrating mobile phone.

"Shush... we’re leaving."

"But..."

"There’s no time. We can’t hold Yindan anymore. I suspect the zombie inside has already started its massacre."

Upon seeing Ai Li, Wen Yixian’s face momentarily relaxed. Having one less person to worry about was always a good thing.

The Level 2 long-armed zombie paused when it sensed the approach of a high-level zombie. Its eyes fixated on Ah Fu and its quivering body halted.

It awaited in terror for Ah Fu’s approach.

Roar!

Ah Fu let out a monstrous roar and suddenly stood upright. With a deadly swipe at the zombie, he lifted and firmly gripped it with his massive hand before turning his terrifying, glistening pearl-white eyes at the barricade—a colossal anti-zombie wall standing over ten meters tall.

Roar!

Following another roar, Ah Fu’s hand tightened around the long-armed zombie’s body as his muscles bulged. He hurled the writhing creature towards the anti-zombie wall with a force that whistled through the air. Watching Ah Fu prepare to launch the Level 2 zombie caused disbelief to spread amongst the watching soldiers, who began firing their weapons at Ah Fu, regardless of the futility of their bullets against him.

It was too late to do any more. As the hail of bullets faded, the long-armed zombie was sent soaring through the air by Ah Fu, tracing a perfect parabola over the anti-zombie wall. Ah Fu had been executing a plan commanded by Tang Ye from a distance away.

Just as Wen Yixian and Ai Li descended the anti-zombie wall and started to depart the premises, they saw a zombie crash down onto the road in front of them from the sky.

"What is..."

Hehehe!

The Level 2 long-armed zombie clumsily scrambled to its feet, its attention immediately piqued by the sight of Wen Yixian and Ai Li. It enthusiastically started running towards them.

"Oh no!"

In panic, Wen Yixian drew a handgun and fired several rounds at the zombie’s head, but she failed to land a bullet in its brain and cause any significant damage. The zombie retaliated by sweeping its elongated arms towards Wen Yixian.

Surprised, Ai Li swiftly retreated, taking out his handgun to shoot at the zombie, while Wen Yixian narrowly evaded the zombie’s attack and distanced herself from it by executing a quick roll.

Bang, bang, bang!

The bullets from Ai Li’s gun accurately hit the long-armed zombie square in the head. The zombie’s head was knocked back by the force of the bullets, but it didn’t die. Instead, it languidly shuddered back upright.

Opening its mouth to reveal blackish-yellow teeth and a disgusting pool of drool, it lunged at Wen Yixian in a frenzy. Being a New Human, her strong scent of blood and flesh was even more enticing to the zombie than that of an average human.

In response, Wen Yixian yanked a knife from her thigh and used it to fend off the zombie’s long arm. She kicked it but discovered that the zombie’s arms were too long and her legs failed to reach.

The momentarily halted Level 2 zombie swiftly pulled her towards it by tugging at her sleeve. This move finally brought Wen Yixian within range of her tall opponent; she extended her leg and kicked the zombie once again.

However, the zombie was about three meters in height, so her kick ended up landing on its groin. Normally, being kicked by a Level 2 New Human would be enough to bring a person to their knees in pain. Yet zombies had no sense of pain and thus, it showed no reaction. Instead, it pulled Wen Yixian closer and its disgusting mouth continuously snapped at her.

The strong and nauseating stench of the zombie was overwhelming, leaving Wen Yixian feeling light-headed. Yet, she couldn’t free her hands to cover her nose.

Left with no other choice, she stepped onto the zombie’s leg and tried to resist as best she could.

Ai Li dared not get too close, instead continuously provoking the zombie by shooting at it. Annoyed, the zombie roared and twisted its head towards Ai Li, its tongue unfurling.

It transformed into a twenty-meter wet, sticky tongue whip, winding towards Ai Li.

Watching the zombie launch an attack on Ai Li with its tongue, Wen Yixian steeled her face. She struggled with the knife still stuck in the zombie’s arm, pushing it further in with a squelching sound.

The flesh of the Level 2 zombie was extremely tough and Wen Yixian felt great resistance as she inserted the knife. Even then, with all her strength, she successfully stabbed the knife into the zombie’s flesh. However, when the blade was completely entrenched into the flesh, she felt the blade begin to bend.

Not caring about that detail, she griped the handle of the knife that was lodged in the zombie’s arm and pushed hard off the ground, ending up straddling the zombie’s thigh with one foot with the other, she rose up off the ground. Her extended leg struck the zombie’s chin with its knee with a huge amount of force.

Snap, snap, snap! The sound of breaking bones filled the air as the long-armed Level 2 zombie was sent flying, retreating backwards for over a meter. Its elongated, attacking tongue withdrew back into its mouth.

With the zombie on the ground, Wen Yixian seized the opportunity for a follow-up attack. Before the zombie could get up again, she strode forward and secured one of its hands, using her other hand to wrench off its long arms.

Just as she was about to tackle the other arm, the fallen zombie bit down on her arm, tearing off a large piece of her flesh and clothing.

She couldn’t help but let out a soft whimper at the pain that emanated from her arm, but inside, she was seething.

She ripped out the knife that was still lodged in the zombie’s arm and, raising it high, plunged it into its open mouth. Agitating the blade caused a steady flow of blood to spurt out of its maw.

Not bothering about the revulsion, her free hand gripped the still projecting tongue while her other hand continued to manipulate the knife. Simultaneously cutting with the knife and pulling with her hand, she tore the entire tongue out of the mouth of the zombie.

Meanwhile, Ai Li broke off an iron rod from a nearby railing and stabbed it mercilessly into the skull of the immobilized zombie on the ground.

Plop!

Its skull was penetrated instantly, and the body fell motionless. Both of them, finally able to breathe, let out a sigh of relief.
