Chapter 1609: Chapter 1603: Just Want to Lie Down

With a roar, Brother Shi pushed down with all his strength on both his legs and arms, pulling the cloth strip to press the Tianguang’s firing button. A red laser shot out, slamming straight into the approaching high-level zombie!

"Urghroar!"

It let out a furious roar of its own and charged headlong into the light beam!

The two collided, flames erupted wildly, and amidst the roar was Ghost Head’s shrill cry of pain. The powerful recoil from Tianguang’s shot made him experience what true force felt like! His whole body jerked forward violently, crashing directly into Brother Shi’s crotch, whose face twisted instantly, his features nearly contorting into a mangled mess.

The recoil was so strong that even with the backrest of the chair acting as a buffer, Ghost Head felt like his entire skeleton was about to shatter. Luckily, the cushioning softened part of the impact; otherwise, things would’ve been far worse.

Brother Shi’s legs stretched straight like rods, his hands gripping the cloth strip tightly. At the moment of exertion earlier, the backlash from firing the Tianguang laser gave his legs a tingling numbness, but it was still manageable. At least he could bear it!

"Check back! What’s that bastard’s status now?"

It took a lot of effort for Brother Shi to utter those words. Hearing this, Ghost Head turned around. In the road behind them, amidst the raging flames, he could feel the alarming heat radiating out!

For a while, there was no sign of the Level 7 zombie. Had it been killed just like that?

Before Ghost Head could release a sigh of relief, a roar erupted from within the rolling flames. Intense wind pressure instantly suppressed the raging fire, and then Ghost Head saw that Level 7 zombie again. This time, its previously broad face had a massive bloody hole beneath its jaw. He knew it was caused by Brother Shi’s shot just now, but this kind of damage was practically nothing to a zombie!

Through its roar, he could clearly see the quivering of its throat and feel the overwhelming fury burning in the creature’s chest. Its pale eyes looked even more bloodthirsty!

Its four limbs started moving again, accelerating in an instant as it charged madly forward. Perhaps, in the beginning, it had only been hunting purely for food—a simple predator-prey relationship. But now, the dynamic had shifted. This thing was hellbent on killing them; it was a fight to the death, no other way out!

"F*ck! It’s not dead! Fire again!"

Ghost Head quickly shouted down at Brother Shi. Hearing this, Brother Shi clenched his teeth, braced his legs and arms, and activated the Tianguang again. The red glow from the back of the seat erupted! Another beam shot out, colliding with the relentlessly pursuing zombie!

Another explosion of flames. The high-speed charging Level 7 zombie was forced to slow down under the impact. But the massive recoil also nearly sent Ghost Head flying. His entire body lifted off the seat for a split second before slamming back down, the intense pain mixed with numbness spreading all over him, prompting an involuntary scream of agony.

"Shit! This hurts like hell!"

Ghost Head had never been so intimately acquainted with the force of the Tianguang’s recoil, even at half power. Every time it fired, it felt like a high-speed car rammed into his back, as though his spine was splitting apart!

Just as his wailing subsided, a "crack" sound came from beside him. Turning his head, he saw it—Brother Shi’s leg. Compared to before, Brother Shi’s face was even more twisted. Ghost Head instantly understood: Brother Shi’s leg was definitely broken.

"Are you okay?"

"Do I look okay to you?"

Ghost Head asked in concern, only to be met with Brother Shi’s roar. He fell silent at once. Brother Shi, on the other hand, was nearly screaming, "Check on that f*cker again! Is it dead or not?"

Hearing this, Ghost Head forced his numbed body to turn around and look again. Unfortunately, the zombie hadn’t stopped. Its movements resumed, and its steps quickened once more. Its flesh was no longer intact; its entire body was covered in grotesque, blistered flesh from the extreme heat, making it look even more terrifying. The roars it let out carried a fury that refused to die down, turning its cries into piercing shrieks.

It was like a vengeful ghost climbing out of hell to claim their lives!

"It’s not dead!"

"Still not dead?! Crooked Neck, drive faster!"

"I’m at max speed! What else can I do?!"

The group fell silent for a brief moment, but it didn’t last. Brother Shi gritted his teeth and shouted, "Fire again!"

As soon as he said it, the veins on his arms bulged. But with his leg already fractured from the previous recoil, he now appeared to summon all his strength, yet the Tianguang mounted behind the seat still hadn’t fired another shot.

"Can you do it?"

"Yes! Argh... Urgh... GAH!"

Driven by an unyielding will to survive, Brother Shi poured everything he had into pulling, and finally, just as the zombie was about to close in on the vehicle, the Tianguang’s barrel flared once more!

A red beam shot out again. But this time, given how close the high-level zombie was, the laser collided with its body almost immediately upon firing. Flames roared, and searing heatwaves crashed against them like a tidal wave, making the group feel as though they were trapped inside a giant steam oven. The vehicle’s frame barely held together for even a moment. The red paint peeled off instantly under the scorching heat, revealing the metallic silver of the chassis beneath. However, it too couldn’t withstand the temperature, quickly turning a dull red!

The leather upholstery beneath Ghost Head’s seat shriveled up in an instant. Despite their exoskeletal battle suits, the heat was so intense that even their hair curled up and fell off. Their faces began to wrinkle, blistering under the heat. They couldn’t stifle their screams of pain as it felt like all the moisture in their bodies was being evaporated.

Luckily, the speeding vehicle generated enough rushing wind to dispel some of the blistering heat. This gave them a slight reprieve. By the time the heatwave fully subsided, the faces beneath their helmets were a horrific sight, covered in blisters and burns. Ghost Head and the others were disfigured beyond recognition, but Yong, clad in his exoskeleton, remained entirely unscathed. His unharmed appearance made him look completely out of place compared to the others.

"I... I’m done for..."

As the temperature dropped to a bearable range, Brother Shi weakly muttered, though it wasn’t clear who he was speaking to. His hands let go of the cloth strips, his whole body collapsing backward. In that instant, all he wanted was to lie motionless here. To hell with that damned zombie. If death came, so be it—being this exhausted was worse than dying.
