Chapter 1608: Chapter 1602: Just Need to Hit
The recoil from this shot made Brother Shi feel as if his internal organs were tumbling over themselves. Blood gushed uncontrollably from his mouth as he spoke, but he persevered, aiming the Tianguang’s muzzle at the Level 7 zombie that had just dropped down. After letting out a bellow, the gun emitted a sharp, piercing sound, followed by another torrent of red light that surged forward, slamming directly into the target!
Roar!
At the same time, the zombie’s deafening roar reverberated through the air. Its limbs tensed and, in the blink of an eye, it vanished as if teleporting. When the group looked back, the creature was already beside the car! It raised its grotesque claws, swiping ferociously toward the three of them!
"Not good!" Ghost Head shouted, quickly grabbing Brother Shi and throwing both of them backward!
The corpse claw was both hard and razor-sharp. When it collided with the car, it was as if there was no resistance at all—the vehicle’s outer shell warped and twisted instantly. The dark red claw pierced straight through, tearing the entire car apart!
Gaaaah~
As it let out a low growl, the zombie swiftly withdrew its claw. When it realized it had only managed to tear off a few car parts, its fury exploded. Growling once more, it raised its claw again, but at that exact moment Crooked Neck floored the gas pedal. The vehicle roared violently, and its claw followed suit.
A monstrous force sent the car spinning, snapping the streetlamp on the side of the road clean in two. Crooked Neck’s sudden acceleration propelled the vehicle forward, busting through the guardrail before plummeting toward the vegetation-covered ground below!
Bam!
The monster truck landed successfully, shaking loose a heap of parts. But at that moment, no one cared about the car’s mechanical state—all they wanted was to shake off that thing as quickly as possible!
Inside the car, Crooked Neck was relatively okay thanks to his seatbelt. However, Brother Shi and the other three weren’t as fortunate. When the vehicle landed, the trio slammed into the car’s roof before crashing back onto their seats. Ghost Head was unconscious, Brother Shi’s head was drenched in blood, sticky and warm; he felt like his brain was about to spill out.
Instinctively shutting his eyes during the chaos, Brother Shi opened them to find Yong, his face smeared with dirt, standing before him, bracing himself against a seat with one hand while offering the Tianguang to him with the other.
"What are you planning to do?" Brother Shi asked weakly.
Yong didn’t answer directly. First, he pointed to a Tianguang that had flown to the passenger seat—it belonged to Brother Shi—then retracted his hand, saying, "How do I...?"
The moment Yong said these words, Brother Shi immediately understood—Yong wanted to increase the weapon’s output, but he didn’t know how to operate it. Given Yong’s shooting skills, he might have a chance at killing that cursed Level 7 zombie!
"Let me help you do it..."
Brother Shi struggled to his feet, taking the Tianguang handed to him by Yong. He started tweaking the output power dial. Initially, he hesitated, knowing that even Level 5 New Humans struggle to bear the weapon at full capacity. But once he finished the adjustments, he glanced at Yong, his expression a mix of strangeness and determination.
"Is it done?" Yong assumed Brother Shi had finished configuring it and reached out for his weapon.
"Not yet, not yet, just a little more." Brother Shi quickly reassured him, a resolute look crossing his face. Yong’s marksmanship was incredible—so much so that, up until now, Brother Shi hadn’t seen him miss a single shot. Against that Level 7 zombie, the Tianguang set to maximum power wouldn’t guarantee a kill, but it could at least cripple it!
"As long as you hit... As long as you hit... That’s all that matters..."
Brother Shi muttered these words repeatedly in his mind, finally twisting the dial into the red zone—the maximum output capacity of the Tianguang weapon!
After finishing, he hesitated for a moment before handing the Tianguang back to Yong.
"Done...?"
"Yeah."
Brother Shi nodded. Yong wasted no time, taking the Tianguang and rushing to the back of the car. The tailgate of the monster truck was already falling apart. Yong kicked the back door down completely, aimed the weapon at the Level 7 zombie that had just leaped down, and prepared to fire.
But just as Yong was about to pull the trigger, Brother Shi hurriedly stopped him!
"Wait!"
Panic flashed across Brother Shi’s face. This wasn’t the right time to shoot! The Tianguang in Yong’s hands was at maximum capacity—firing it would deliver a backblast strong enough to pulverize the human body. Not only that, the shockwave would sweep through everyone inside the car.
Yong turned his head in confusion, his eyes silently asking Brother Shi, "What now?"
"Hold on. Crooked Neck, drive faster!" Brother Shi said to Yong before shouting at Crooked Neck, who was behind the wheel. Crooked Neck took a deep breath, loosening his safety belt. The belt was so tight against his exoskeleton armor it felt like it was digging into his skin, an oppressive sensation impossible to ignore.
Recovering somewhat, Crooked Neck wasted no time. He slammed the accelerator to the floor, sending the car hurtling forward like an unleashed arrow. Brother Shi glanced at the unconscious Ghost Head, gave him a kick, and noticed some movement. "Ghost Head! Are you okay?"
Ghost Head wore a dazed expression. Brother Shi quickly reached out to pull him up, but Ghost Head simply moved sluggishly. When he finally opened his eyes and looked at Brother Shi, his vision was filled with double images, his body completely devoid of strength—like every ounce of energy had been drained.
"Hurry up! Are you okay?"
"I’m fine... Where are we...?"
Ghost Head mumbled, lowering his gaze to his arm. His forearm was twisted out of shape; even the slightest movement sent excruciating pain through him. He couldn’t muster enough strength to clench his fist.
"Where else could we be?" Brother Shi snapped anxiously.
Ghost Head scanned the surroundings briefly. When his gaze landed on the menacing Level 7 zombie trailing behind them, all his confusion vanished in an instant. Instinctively trying to stand, he immediately sucked in a sharp breath, his face contorting in pain.
"Shhh~"
"What’s wrong?"
"My damn arm is dislocated!"
"Get up quickly!" Brother Shi yelled, his frustration boiling over. He forcibly hauled Ghost Head up, causing him to grimace in pain from the sudden motion.
"What are you trying to do?"
"Sit here." Brother Shi kicked the nearby seat, instructing Ghost Head to sit down. Ghost Head, though confused, did as he was told, his scalp tingling at the sight of the Level 7 zombie accelerating behind them.
"Is this nightmare ever going to end?"
Brother Shi glanced back at the zombie, his anxiety mounting.
"You, sit tight here."
"What are you planning to do?"
"Brace this seat!"
Brother Shi roared, his fury bubbling up. Every word made his chest ache—his lungs had been bruised by the recoil from his earlier shot. The pain stretched from his abdomen to his chest with every step he took!
Once Ghost Head was seated properly, Brother Shi mounted the laser weapon against the back of the seat. He quickly tore a strip of fabric from his clothing, tying it around the firing button. Gripping each end of the fabric tightly in his hands, he cautiously positioned himself in front of Ghost Head, then lay down, planting his feet against the backrest. With a low growl, he shouted, "Come on!"
