Chapter 1604: Chapter 1598 "Building the Ladder
Just at that moment, the Level 4 zombie finally reached Bald Head below. It leapt up, its grotesque zombie claw immediately gripping Bald Head’s thigh, sharp talons tearing through flesh and skin. Bald Head’s bloodcurdling scream followed instantly!
The moment the claw touched Bald Head’s leg, the Level 4 zombie fiercely latched onto him! After the piercing howl came the guttural roar of the zombie; using Bald Head’s thigh as leverage, its massive arm strength lifted its heavy body, dragging Bald Head’s body with it. All the burden fell squarely on Ghost Head.
"F*ck!"
Ghost Head cursed loudly, while Bald Head, summoning strength from who knows where, clung desperately to his waist and refused to let go. The sudden increase in weight pushed Brother Shi above to his limit.
With the Level 4 zombie now joining the fray, pulling them up wasn’t an option anymore—Brother Shi could barely hold the rope without it slipping through his hands!
Brother Shi’s eyes bulged like they were about to burst from their sockets; he felt he couldn’t endure even another second.
Panic-stricken, he turned toward the nearby vehicle and shouted, "Someone get down here and help me, dammit!"
The few in the vehicle were instantly torn, unable to act. There was a "Big Tiger" zombie at the back chasing them, and no one could afford to step away. If that thing went berserk, no one knew who’d be the unlucky one.
But food was critical. Snapper glanced around hesitantly, clearly unwilling to leave the vehicle and assist. Yet with Crooked Neck driving and the monstrous Level 7 zombie needing Yong to hold its attention, Snapper—the others’ clear deadweight—was the only one left. If he didn’t go, who could?
Regret hit Snapper hard, wishing he’d been the driver instead. But regret couldn’t change the present; resigned, he climbed out of the vehicle and rushed to Brother Shi’s side to grab the rope!
With Snapper joining in, the pressure on Brother Shi lightened considerably. Bald Head below let out another blood-curdling scream—Ghost Head glanced down and saw the Level 4 zombie biting Bald Head’s foot clean off.
Now with Bald Head and the Level 4 strength-evolved zombie both hanging below him, Ghost Head felt his waist was about to snap under the strain. He shouted furiously at Bald Head, "Let me go, f*cking let go of me!"
At the sound of his voice, Bald Head raised his head. His twisted face had become grotesque beyond recognition, his eyes burned with venomous hatred and desperate fixation, resembling a vengeful demon clawing its way out of hell.
"You have to save me, you must save me! If you leave me, you’re all going to die miserable deaths! AAAHHH!"
The unbearable pain seemed to have warped Bald Head’s voice into a guttural, hoarse shriek. Ghost Head snapped—there was no way he’d let Bald Head drag him to his death in the jaws of zombies.
Fighting for survival, Ghost Head’s expression twisted viciously as he adjusted his stance with brute force, then drove his foot down savagely against Bald Head’s head!
That kick carried all of Ghost Head’s strength, but the other man’s grip remained unrelenting. Bald Head’s hand clung tightly to him.
"Let go!"
With a roar, Ghost Head landed another brutal kick, then a third, then a fourth, each blow smashing heavily against Bald Head’s bloodied face. But Ghost Head underestimated Bald Head’s determination to live; even as his face was stomped into a bloody pulp, his hand stubbornly clutched Ghost Head’s waist, his skin bulging with veins and drained of all color.
"F*ck your mother!"
Another ferocious kick came. Bald Head closed his eyes briefly, his body sagged ever so slightly downward, but still he wouldn’t release his grip—until finally, the Level 4 zombie tore away his lower half in a savage bite, spilling his intestines and other internal organs in a wet, grotesque cascade. Bald Head’s body jolted; his eyes flew open one last time. There was no sign of agony in his expression, only venomous hatred chilling to the bone. Only then did life leave him, his blood soaking the massive, hulking frame of the Level 4 zombie below.
He was indeed dead. But even in death, his lifeless eyes locked on Ghost Head, unfocused pupils seeming to promise vengeance as a lingering spirit.
With Bald Head now deceased, he no longer held the Level 4 zombie’s interest. The creature began climbing toward Ghost Head, using Bald Head’s mutilated remains as leverage. However, with Bald Head dead, the strength in his hand clutching Ghost Head’s waist had greatly diminished. Even in death, his grip stubbornly testified to his desperate will to live!
"Get lost!"
Ghost Head raised his leg once more, delivering a harsh kick to Bald Head. At last, Bald Head let go, falling along with the Level 4 zombie into the zombie horde below. The pressure on Ghost Head immediately eased, and with Brother Shi and Snapper heaving on the rope, he ascended swiftly and soon reached the edge of the overpass.
Ghost Head scrambled to grab the railing and haul himself up. Snapper urgently snatched the food bag away, only to groan at discovering half the supplies were gone. What was once enough to feed the group for three days now might not even last them one!
Wangxing City clearly wasn’t an option anymore. This meant they’d have to take a longer detour to reach Bai Ling.
Ghost Head didn’t immediately interpret Snapper’s sudden movement, but he didn’t care. At least there was food left—less was better than none!
None of the three dared linger long. They rushed into the vehicle at top speed, and Crooked Neck quickly slammed the gas pedal down. The engine roared as the truck accelerated forward.
The Level 7 zombie behind them, seeing their vehicle attempting escape, unsurprisingly didn’t let up. In the next moment, a chilling "Woo...woo...woo..." sound emanated from its mouth, stirring a frenzied reaction from the zombie horde below the overpass!
"What the hell?" Unable to see the activity below, anxiety clawed at the group’s hearts. Unbeknownst to them, as the Level 7 zombie cried out, Yong’s gaze sharpened as the atmosphere grew charged. The Level 7 zombie seemed to sense something, abruptly halting its cries, causing the zombie horde to quiet as well. Its pale eyes then fixed intently on Yong’s every movement. Yet when Yong remained still, the creature’s jaw parted again. "Woo...woo...woo..." It cried out once more, reigniting the horde into feral madness.
"Is the zombie horde horny or something?" The bizarre, erratic frenzy left Ghost Head and the others thoroughly puzzled. Yong remained intensely focused on the Level 7 zombie; they didn’t dare disturb him. When it came to fighting this elite foe, Yong was undoubtedly their best chance!
As the Level 7 zombie unleashed yet another deafening cry to trigger the horde’s frenzy, Yong’s eyes sharpened once more, radiating an aura of invisible intensity. But this time, it failed to subdue the horde—their rage escalated instead. More disturbingly, the waves of bone-rattling shrieks seemed to be drawing closer?
Ghost Head and Brother Shi exchanged horrified glances. In that instant, understanding dawned on the group, and their faces drained of all color!
Could it be...
The zombie horde was starting to stack their bodies into a ladder!
