Chapter 1605: Chapter 1599: A Premeditated Shot?
Zombies piled together, forming a mountain to climb over the high wall. This kind of situation, though not common, wasn’t unheard of. It was the only possibility the Ghost Head and his crew could think of!
"Crooked Neck, drive faster!" Brother Shi shouted at Crooked Neck, but there was no response. Crooked Neck slammed the gas pedal to the floor, and the monster truck sped along the uneven road. Behind them, the Level 7 zombie’s guttural sounds stopped abruptly, replaced by a hoarse and feral roar. Its limbs moved violently—it was charging at them again!
Yong acted swiftly, predicting the movement of the Level 7 zombie, and pressed the firing trigger. A streak of laser shot out, hitting its mark perfectly!
However, it was too far away; Ghost Head and the others couldn’t see the state of the Level 7 zombie after the laser hit.
When they noticed the zombie’s stride hadn’t paused even slightly, Brother Shi and Ghost Head exchanged a glance, then scrambled into the backseat. They each rolled down the windows on either side, aimed Tianguang’s gun barrels outside, and unleashed a barrage of bullets at the speeding Level 7 zombie. But its movement speed was too fast—not even their eyesight could keep up, let alone their aim.
A relentless stream of lasers shot out, scattering dust from distant buildings, yet none seemed to hit their target.
In the middle seat, Yong’s hands tightened on Tianguang’s laser rifle, pouring out additional laser beams that tracked the zombie’s movement relentlessly. But the damage was minimal; even when they landed a hit, it hardly affected the monster.
"Damn it!" Brother Shi cursed harshly, his voice laced with frustration. Fear gripped the hearts of all four as they could only use their lasers to vent their panic, desperately trying to force the zombie back.
The deafening growls erupting from the mass of zombies below became increasingly piercing. Soon, Brother Shi and Ghost Head heard Snapper yell, "Holy shit! Zombies are climbing up!"
Following Snapper’s gaze, they saw, by the edge of the overpass, a zombie clawing its decayed hands into the platform, pulling up its equally rotting, putrid body from below. The first was followed by a second, then a third... More and more appeared, gradually covering the road on the overpass. Brother Shi and Ghost Head no longer had the luxury to worry about the Level 7 zombie—they couldn’t hit it anyway. Instead, they shifted their aim toward the zombies already crawling onto the bridge.
The cacophony of growls from every direction almost felt like it was sanding down their eardrums until they began to itch!
While the two fired madly into the horde, Yong’s peculiar, rigid voice suddenly cut through the chaos.
"Jump down. You’d... better do it."
"What?"
All four froze for a moment, their minds racing to process his words. When they followed his gaze, their faces turned pale with shock—the Level 7 zombie was now less than 200 meters away!
The distance seemed long, but at the speed that the Level 7 zombie was moving, it was hardly a matter of seconds!
"Shit! Jump out of the car now!" Brother Shi yelled. He scrambled over to the middle seat, not even bothering to open the door, and smashed through the window as he leapt out. Ghost Head followed closely, then Crooked Neck, who rolled out after flinging the door open. But Snapper, foolishly hesitating and glancing backward, was already too late!
Just as he was opening the door, a massive collision sent deadly force plowing into the vehicle. Suddenly, Snapper felt weightless, his head seeming to shatter against something brittle. Half his body soared upward, carried by the rushing wind.
When he regained his senses, he realized some liquid had trickled onto his lips. He licked it tentatively—iron-tangy and sickly sweet. In the next moment, a sharp, unbearable pain shot through his head. It turned out the liquid was his own blood!
Twisting his body back toward the interior, he tugged his leg free from where it was wedged in the floorboard, took a deep breath, and looked at the windshield, now shattered into a jagged maw. Through the cracked glass, he could see verdant greenery in the distance. Incredibly, he and the monster truck were both airborne!
Luckily, the impact had come from behind. Other than a dizzy head and sore muscles, Snapper felt no mortal injuries.
"Fuck!"
He cursed loudly, but the moment he uttered a sound, splitting pain roared through his head, forcing him to suck in cold air. Glancing backward, his vision caught Yong still inside the vehicle. Before Snapper could react, Yong slipped out, his body plunging toward the ground!
Soon after, with an earth-shaking "bang," the monster truck slammed down, causing the glass panes to explode into shards. The truck’s internal disarray scattered everywhere in the chaos. Snapper’s screams followed but were quickly swallowed by the surrounding zombie wails and the sound of laser gunfire.
Snapper crawled out of the truck, his entire body soaked in blood. The world around him blurred—the pain crashing through his skull sent him reeling. He glanced to his side, where Brother Shi and Ghost Head were firing as they retreated, while Crooked Neck sprinted madly toward him!
Roar!
The Level 7 zombie let out a ferocious growl, its movements sending its weaker brethren flying like tattered rags. The crazed bloodlust in its eyes chilled everyone’s throats to the bone!
Its limbs moved again—slowly at first, then accelerating. The surrounding air seemed to distort, trembling with its speed. Meanwhile, Yong, who had fallen from such a great height, rose to his feet as though he felt no pain whatsoever. Calmly, almost indifferently, he raised Tianguang’s rifle, pointing the muzzle at the Level 7 zombie. A flash of orange-red light surged forward—a laser fired!
Whsssh!
The laser struck the zombie head-on, leaving behind a charred black mark. The damage was negligible at best, but the blast caused the zombie to momentarily dip its head downward.
When it lifted its head again, the bloodthirsty intensity in its gaze had only deepened. Yong’s shot may not have been lethal, but it insulted the fiend—it was like a slap to the face!
Fixing its glare on Yong, its rage was palpable. One explosive burst later, the creature transformed into a bolt of lightning, ignoring the other three as it hurtled straight toward Yong!
"Watch out!"
Brother Shi shouted a warning to Yong, unsure whether he’d understand or even hear. But Yong remained unmoved, continuing to aim Tianguang with the same serene focus, as his fingers tightened around the trigger. As Brother Shi’s shout echoed, Yong let loose another shot!
That shot seemed premeditated. The orange-red beam crossed hundreds of meters in an instant, meeting the Level 7 zombie head-on during its rapid charge!
Splorch!
Roarrrr!
None of them could fully grasp what happened. They only heard the zombie’s deafening cry of agony. When they turned their eyes toward it, they found its remaining intact eye had become a blurry mess, with thick black fluid spraying and dripping down in a torrent. It was clear now—the monster had been rendered completely blind!
