Chapter 1603: Chapter 1597: I Shouldn’t Die Here, Right?

"What’s up with the baldie?" Seeing that Ghost Head hadn’t made any progress, Brother Shi began to panic. Ghost Head turned around and said, "The rope’s a bit short; he can’t jump up!"

"Ma De!"

Cursing loudly, Brother Shi placed everything on him, including Yajin, on the front car seat. Without another word, he jumped out of the car again. Crooked Neck continued driving, while Snapper and Yong faced off against the Level 7 zombie behind them.

He ran to Ghost Head, looked down, and saw that the other end of the rope was still some distance from Bald Head. He really wanted Ghost Head to just toss the rope and drive off, but the food was too important! He felt some resentment; Bald Head had really messed up. Instead of just getting off and escaping, he had to grab the food, and now they were all dragged into this mess!

"Jump higher!"

"I... I’m running out of strength. Someone come down and pull me up!"

Bald Head’s voice was weak, sounding like he could collapse at any moment. If the zombie horde caught up to him, getting their food back would be almost impossible.

Brother Shi turned to look in the direction of the zombie horde. Several high-level zombies had already pushed to the front of the horde and would soon break free. By then, it would all be too late!

With no choice, he said to Ghost Head, "Hey, get down there and pull him up. I’ll hold the rope steady from here."

"Huh?" Ghost Head was stunned for a moment, then hesitated. He wanted to say, "Why don’t you go down?" but he held back.

After a moment of silence, he could only nod to Brother Shi and say, "Alright."

"Hurry."

Ghost Head ran to the front, climbed over the barrier of the extended overpass, brushed aside the weeds, and with Brother Shi holding the rope, he jumped down.

Sssss...

Quickly, Ghost Head slid down, feeling the burning friction between his palms and the rope. However, he smoothly reached the end of the rope, grabbed it with one hand, turned his body over, then tied one leg with his other hand, and finally reached out to Bald Head.

With him extending the rope, the distance to the ground quickly shrank to over three meters.

"Jump! Grab me!"

Below, Bald Head took a deep breath, gritted his teeth, and jumped with all his strength. His survival instinct drove him higher than ever before, and his hand quickly touched Ghost Head’s outstretched hand.

However, it seemed that jump used up all his strength. He touched it, but couldn’t grip Ghost Head’s hand. Fortunately, Ghost Head reacted quickly and grabbed his wrist!

"Brother Shi, pull us up!"

"On it!"

Seeing Ghost Head successfully grab Bald Head, Brother Shi hurriedly pulled the rope upwards.

"Hurry up, move faster!" Ghost Head glanced toward the zombie horde; one of them, a Level 4 zombie, was about to break through. He became anxious and urged Brother Shi loudly.

"Why rush? I’m pulling as hard as I can!" Brother Shi gritted his teeth, pulling with all his might, while below, Ghost Head and Bald Head slowly ascended. But then, the Level 4 zombie couldn’t wait any longer and let out a deafening roar. Its four to five-meter-tall figure sent shivers down the spines of Ghost Head and Bald Head, even making Brother Shi’s grip falter.

"F*ck!"

Cursing under his breath, Brother Shi focused his energy on pulling Ghost Head and Bald Head upwards. But in the next second, the Level 4 zombie leapt over the zombies blocking its way, landing less than tens of meters away from Ghost Head and Bald Head!

Roar!

With another furious roar, the Level 4 zombie indulged its bloodthirsty instinct, charging toward Ghost Head in massive strides!

"Hurry up!" Bald Head watched, his eyes wide with horror, as the oncoming Level 4 zombie twisted his face in terror.

"Stop f*cking screaming!" Brother Shi’s face was equally grim. He was trying his hardest, but his strength only went so far. How could he pull any faster?

As he watched the Level 4 zombie charging below, anxiety welled up. He could only shout at Ghost Head, "Ghost Head, throw the food up!"

Ghost Head immediately realized what he meant, looked down at Bald Head, and shouted, "Baldie, give me the food, I’ll throw it up."

They chose to save Bald Head not out of any sense of loyalty but simply because he was holding the food. Bald Head, having survived this long, knew there was no eternal loyalty, only eternal interests. The food in his hand might be the reason they saved him. If he handed it over, who knew what would happen? He couldn’t afford to risk it.

Without hesitation, he shook his head at Ghost Head, "No, pull me up first then we’ll talk!"

"You f*cking..."

Ghost Head glanced back at the Level 4 zombie. Though it relied on brute strength, its massive size meant each step covered the equivalent of their usual four or five steps, closing in quickly!

"Am I going to die here?" he couldn’t help but think, as childhood memories flashed in his mind. He yearned to relive that feeling, gazing upon green fields and the white smoke rising lazily into the sky!

These scenes aroused his survival instinct, the desire to live drove him to abandon everything in that moment!

Cursing loudly, Ghost Head reached out and snatched at the bag of food in Bald Head’s hand. Bald Head hadn’t reacted in time, and by the time he did, Ghost Head already had a firm grip on most of the bag!

"Let go, it’s mine!"

"Release it!"

"Ghost Head, f*ck you!"

Ghost Head’s hand was now below Bald Head’s on the bag, just a bit away from the food. Bald Head’s face turned anxious. He held onto the food with one hand and gripped Ghost Head’s exoskeleton armor with the other, not daring to let go!

He attempted to grab the bottom of the bag with his hand. But with only one hand free, if he let go, Ghost Head could easily take the bag. Yet, without shifting his grip, Ghost Head, being a Level 2 New Human, could quickly rip the bag open and snatch the food!

In his infinite panic, Bald Head lost the ability to think and could only scream at Ghost Head, "Motherf*cker! F*ck you! Let go, it’s mine! F*ck!"

Ghost Head ignored his curses, yanking with force and tearing the bag open. With a loud "rip," most of the nutritional powder inside spilled out and fell below. Ghost Head quickly shook up the remaining portion, leaving Bald Head holding only the handle of the bag!
