I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 1495 - 1490: Under the Gaze of the "Giant" 1

Chapter 1495: Chapter 1490: Under the Gaze of the "Giant" 1

After opening the door, Tang Ye saw the same empty room, but aside from the interior decoration, he didn’t see anything strange.

"Huh? Did I hear wrong?"

Confusion appeared on Tang Ye’s face. This scene seemed oddly familiar; had he encountered it yesterday?

Glancing slightly ahead, he noticed another door across the room. Strangely, the door was open, and Tang Ye immediately realized something was off and chased after without any hesitation!

Quickly crossing the entire room, Tang Ye arrived in the corridor, looked around, and seemed to catch a glimpse of a figure in the right-hand corridor running ahead. Tang Ye took off running again, but the figure turned, opened a door, and with seamless motion, slipped into another room, disappearing from Tang Ye’s sight once again, whether it be ghost or human.

However, it seemed that the figure had not closed the door, as if luring him into a trap or guiding him somewhere.

The next second, Tang Ye too entered the room, but upon entering, he only saw the figure slip through another door across the room.

"Stop right there!"

Without overthinking, Tang Ye continued the pursuit. Following the blurred figure, he passed through countless rooms and finally arrived at a rather odd corridor.

No more doors appeared along the corridor, only walls remained, and ahead lay gate after gate of steel barriers. He pursued doggedly, but the distances between these gates grew longer and longer. Gradually, Tang Ye sensed that something was not right.

No matter how fast he moved, he could never catch up. It seemed as though the distance between him and the quasi-human figure became fixed, enough to allow Tang Ye to continue seeing its silhouette.

And Tang Ye also realized exactly what it was – a shadow, just a shadow, translucent like the ghosts in movies, without a physical form but running with both feet on the ground like a human.

"This..."

The word "trap" finally emerged in Tang Ye’s mind, and he slowed down slightly, his expression turning to annoyance.

"What have I done!"

Now, Tang Ye reacted to why he was here in the first place. His destination was the morgue where black coats store corpses, not to chase some damn anomaly!

But it was too late to realize. Having followed that ghostly thing for who knows how long, it was impossible to find his way back; an arrow once flown cannot be retrieved, and Tang Ye could do nothing but stubbornly continue the pursuit.

As he followed that "figure" further and further away, he gradually lost his sense of direction, completely unable to pinpoint his location, while the corridor had completely turned into a straight line; he no longer encountered any forks or crossroads, as the entire corridor became utterly straight.

He watched as the "figure" in front of him opened door after door, revealing new swathes of darkness, the decorative patterns on the surrounding walls gradually becoming distorted. Gradually, Tang Ye began to hear some strange sounds—clearer with time—he could hear each syllable distinctly, but couldn’t understand what language it was.

These sounds should belong to an innocent child singing a nursery rhyme, pure yet ethereal, but in such an environment, it resembled the horror nursery rhymes he heard when he was young, such as "Little Girl Carrying a Doll," filled with intense resentment that made the atmosphere here extremely eerie!

His sense of the passage of time became increasingly blurred as he continued to follow the figure ahead, Tang Ye had completely forgotten how much time had passed; eventually, he even felt that the things in his mind from a second ago were very distant from him now.

Gradually, at some unknown point, the floor under his feet began to change, from the beautifully patterned red and black floor that gradually whitened, while the surrounding walls darkened—a bit at a time—until they became black, blending into the surrounding environment.

Leaving the floor aside, the walls on both sides kept changing and eventually turned into absolute black! Its nature seemed to be the same as the pure darkness Tang Ye saw last night, looking like a boundless space, even though it was just walls less than half a meter from him.

He reached out to touch it several times and could feel the cold touch of the walls, but without this sensation, it felt like being in a starless space, lonely with deep solitude.

Conversely, the color of the floor became more and more conspicuous with the changes; in the end, it turned into a flesh-pink color, forming a stark contrast with the dark walls. Under this completely blackened wall, it seemed to emit light, allowing Tang Ye to clearly see the floor.

The "figure" ahead was still running, as if it could never tire, constantly running, incessantly leading Tang Ye towards an unknown place.

Finally, under Tang Ye’s watchful gaze, that "figure," whose distance from Tang Ye was unknown, opened the last steel door. Upon opening the door, Tang Ye saw the flesh-pink floor, the road behind the door started to slope upwards, entering a threshold was a huge platform, and as Tang Ye crossed the threshold, the figure in front had already reached a farther place!

"Damn it, what the hell is this place!"

Just as he stepped through this last door, Tang Ye immediately felt an intense scent, like the scent of a living being, but also like that of a high-level zombie similar to himself. This scent was so strong it was almost overpowering, with an ubiquity that made it impossible to locate the source!

He continued to chase after the "figure," swiftly crossing the huge flesh-pink platform, onto a path ahead that seemed somewhat narrow. The "figure" maintained the same distance from him, neither closing in nor pulling away, seemingly matching his speed, or perhaps...

"Wait a minute?"

Tang Ye thought of something and suddenly stopped, looking towards the peculiar figure. Even though the other was still running, the visually perceivable distance didn’t seem to have increased?

PS: I don’t know how long I’ll be writing! I always feel like there’s a long way to go before the end, ahhhh! I don’t want to, either. It just felt too casual and forced to slaughter another Zombie King out of the blue. I wanted the protagonist to gain some foreknowledge of the enemy’s weakness. Please bear with me; it should be ending soon.

Maybe I have a natural talent for padding out stories, I didn’t have such a long story in mind at first, but who knew it would stretch over fifty Chapters once I started writing, ahhhh! Gaia!!!
