Chapter 87: Tayo’s Burning Touch
Chapter 87: Tayo’s Burning Touch
As Adam adjusted his mask, the metallic edge pressed coldly against his skin.
His black combat attire clung to his frame, enhancing the aura of anonymity and menace he sought.
Though the mask concealed his face, Tayo didn’t need to see his expression to understand his intent.
She floated near him, her radiant golden form pulsating with anticipation.
Adam’s gaze was fixed on the mall in the distance, its barricaded entrance teeming with chaos. "Do what you do best, Tayo," he said simply, his voice calm but resolute.
Tayo nodded, her golden wings spreading wide. Without hesitation, she soared toward the cluster of vampires attacking the mall’s gates.
Her small frame moved with graceful precision, her light piercing the night.
The vampires, engrossed in their savage assault, initially didn’t notice her approach. But one of them—a tall, gaunt figure with bloodshot eyes—paused.
A faint glow in the distance caught his attention. Turning slowly, he squinted, his predatory instincts sharpening.
"What is that?" he muttered, his voice barely audible above the din.
Tayo’s radiant form became clearer as she approached, her golden aura growing brighter. The vampire’s confusion turned to alarm.
"Look!" he shouted, his guttural voice rising. "What is that thing?"
The others turned, their cruel laughter faltering as they spotted the glowing figure hurtling toward them.
Before they could react, Tayo darted straight toward the first vampire, her small hand outstretched.
"Burning Touch!" she declared, her voice ringing with clarity.
The instant her hand made contact with the vampire’s forehead, his skin sizzled.
A scream erupted from his throat, sharp and agonizing. Flames spread from the point of contact, engulfing his body with horrifying speed.
His clawed hands flailed as his flesh burned away, reducing him to ash within moments.
The remaining vampires froze, their crimson eyes wide with disbelief.
They had faced countless opponents, but never one capable of such devastating power.
Outside the mall, Adam stood motionless, his dark silhouette blending with the night. He raised one hand, his fingers curling slightly as he activated his Telekinesis ability.
"Let’s make sure they stay put," he murmured.
An invisible force swept through the air, gripping each vampire in place. Their bodies stiffened, and panic spread among them as they realized they couldn’t move.
"What’s happening?!" one of them bellowed, his voice thick with fear. "I... I can’t move!"
The other vampires echoed his panic, their voices rising in frantic cries.
Inside the mall, the survivors pressed themselves against the barricaded doors, their trembling hands holding the makeshift barriers in place.
The relentless pounding they’d endured for so long suddenly ceased.
"What’s going on?" a woman whispered, her voice barely audible over the silence.
A young man, his face pale but determined, still held his phone up, live-streaming the events.
"Something’s changed," he muttered, climbing a narrow staircase to peer through a small window above the barricade.
He wiped the glass with his sleeve, straining to see outside.
Below, he glimpsed the vampires struggling against an unseen force. Their movements were jerky, as if they were puppets fighting invisible strings.
"What the hell?" he whispered, squinting. Then his eyes caught something else—a glowing figure darting between the vampires, her light blurring their features.
"What is that?" he wondered aloud, pointing his phone at the scene. He couldn’t see clearly but decided to record everything.
---
Back outside, Tayo moved like a comet, her golden light a stark contrast to the vampires’ dark forms.
She wasted no time. Flying to the nearest group of four, she extended her hand toward each one in turn.
"Burning Touch! Burning Touch! Burning Touch!"
With each declaration, another vampire burst into flames, their agonized screams cutting through the night. The survivors inside the mall heard every cry, their fear mingling with hope.
"Someone’s fighting them," one man whispered.
"But who?" another asked, his voice trembling.
Tayo didn’t pause. She zipped toward another cluster of vampires, her movements a blur.
Her golden aura flickered as she targeted them one by one, their bodies igniting in fiery bursts. Ash piled on the ground from their skin as more and more vampires succumbed to her touch.
Whoever Tayo touches, those vampires fall on the floor and scream.
The remaining vampires, now fewer than half their original number, recoiled. Their predatory arrogance had given way to terror.
"What’s going on?!" one screamed. "We’re being hunted like animals!"
Meanwhile, Adam gritted his teeth. His telekinetic hold strained under the weight of so many struggling foes. Sweat beaded on his brow beneath the mask, but he refused to let go.
"Tayo, finish this quickly," he muttered, his voice strained.
---
Inside the mall, the young man live-streaming couldn’t tear his eyes away from the scene outside.
Tayo’s relentless assault left the vampires in disarray, their numbers dwindling rapidly.
"We might actually survive this," he murmured, his voice tinged with awe.
Then, driven by curiosity, he made a decision. "I need to see this up close."
Ignoring the protests of those around him, he rushed down the stairs and toward the barricaded entrance.
"Wait!" someone called. "What are you doing?"
He turned briefly, his phone still in hand. "We’re safe now! Someone’s out there killing them. We need to see who it is."
He began pulling the barricades away, his actions hurried but deliberate. The others hesitated, exchanging nervous glances. Then, one by one, they stepped forward to help.
As the last piece of furniture was moved, the heavy doors creaked open. The survivors stepped outside, their eyes wide with disbelief.
The once-menacing vampires lay scattered across the ground, their bodies writhing as their skin sizzled and burned. The air was thick with the acrid smell of ash and charred flesh.
All the vampires also fall on the ground and it appears that they have become unconscious.
At the center of the carnage fly Tayo, her golden form glowing brighter than ever. To the survivors, she appeared almost otherworldly—a divine being sent to save them.
"It’s a fairy," one whispered, his voice filled with reverence.
Before they could approach, an unexpected sound froze them in place. A guttural growl rose from one of the vampires Tayo had first struck. Against all odds, the creature pushed itself upright, its charred body cracking as it moved.
The survivors recoiled in fear, their newfound hope wavering.
The Chapter ends here, with tension thick in the air and the fate of the survivors hanging by a thread.
