Chapter 86: The Mall of Despair

Chapter 86: The Mall of Despair

Near Adam’s home, just a short distance away, stood a large mall, a structure that normally thrived with life.

Tonight, however, the mall was a grim beacon of despair.

Though it should have been closed at this hour, its doors remained open, providing essential goods to those who braved the vampire-infested world.

Desperate for food, water, and supplies, a few people had ventured into the mall. They carried hope that their quick errand would be uneventful.

But hope was fleeting.

As the vampires caught wind of the survivors inside, their purpose became singular: to spread their curse as far as possible.

The government and authorities were helpless, no closer to finding a solution against the vampire menace.

Inside the mall, fear had turned the air cold. The survivors were trapped. They’d sealed all the entrances with shelves, tables, and anything they could find.

Yet outside, vampires gathered in numbers, their inhuman strength denting the gates with each pounding strike.

Those inside watched helplessly as the barriers weakened.

One of the trapped survivors, a young man with a thin, pale face and shaking hands, decided to act.

Pulling out his phone, he began a live stream, hoping someone, somewhere, might help them.

"Please, if anyone can hear this..." His voice trembled but grew louder as desperation surged. "We’re trapped in World Mall, Town No. 2. The vampires are outside. They’re going to break in! Please,The Commission, anyone—help us!"

The video, raw and frantic, quickly spread across social media.

The young man moved his camera to show the barricades, the frightened faces of people clinging to each other, and the relentless pounding at the gates.

His words soon filled news broadcasts, urging viewers to act or pray.

In homes across the city, people watched the live stream in silence, their hearts sinking. In the mall, the survivors held their breath, listening to the dreadful sounds of metal giving way and the sinister whispers of vampires outside.

At the same time, in a quiet suburban home, Rachel stood in the living room, staring at the TV.

Her beautiful face, usually calm and composed, now wore an expression of growing fear. The news reports felt unbearable.

"Honey, turn it off!" she snapped, her voice sharp with worry as she turned toward her husband, Ricky. "I don’t want Adam to see this. I don’t want it affecting him!"

Ricky, a man with a rugged yet kind demeanor, sighed and shook his head. "Rachel, if we don’t watch the news, how will we know what’s happening out there?"

Rachel folded her arms, pacing the room. "I hate this. I hate everything about it! All these people suffering... I can’t stand it anymore."

Her voice trailed off as she glanced toward the staircase leading to the second floor, where Adam’s room was.

Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she called out, "Adam! Dinner’s ready. Come down quickly, sweetheart."

The sound of footsteps on the stairs followed her words.

Moments later, Adam appeared. His expression was calm but distant, as if his thoughts were far removed from the mundane scene of dinner.

Dressed in his usual black hoodie and jeans, he moved quietly, almost ghost-like.

As Adam entered the dining room, his gaze was immediately drawn to the TV.

The news channel displayed the live stream from the mall. The young man’s frantic voice filled the room.

"This is World Mall, Town No. 2! We’re trapped! Please, someone come! We need help now!"

Adam’s dark eyes narrowed as he watched the footage of terrified people barricaded inside, their faces lit by the cold, flickering glow of emergency lights.

The vampires outside seemed moments away from breaking in.

Ricky, sitting at the table, muttered grimly, "I don’t think anyone’s coming to save them."

Adam stiffened. His mind raced as he processed what he had just heard. Without a word, he turned to his mother. "I’ll be back in a minute," he said.

Rachel frowned, confusion flickering in her blue eyes. "Where are you going? You haven’t even started eating."

"I’m just going to my room," Adam replied. Before she could respond, he was already walking away.

---

In his room, Adam closed the door and leaned against it, taking a steadying breath.

Floating above him was Tayo, his radiant Sun Spirit, whose golden light cast a warm glow over the dark room.

"We can’t just watch," Adam said quietly, his voice firm. "We’re going to that mall. We’re going to stop the vampires—and bring those people back to safety."

Tayo’s luminous form hovered closer, her warmth filling the room. She chirped softly in agreement, her golden wings fluttering.

Adam moved quickly. From his closet, he pulled out his mask and combat attire—a sleek black outfit that hugged his lean frame.

He donned the mask, its dark design concealing his identity and adding to his imposing presence.

He glanced at Tayo, who landed gently on his outstretched hand.

"Ready?" he asked.

Tayo nodded, her golden light flaring slightly in response.

Adam raised his hand, activating his teleportation skill. In an instant, they vanished, leaving behind only a faint shimmer of golden light.

---

Outside the mall, chaos reigned. Twenty vampires surrounded the gates, their claws tearing at the metal.

Each strike sent echoes through the air, signaling the doom of the survivors within. The vampires laughed mockingly, their voices low and guttural.

"Resist all you want," one of them growled. "No one’s coming. This entire city is ours."

Inside, the young man with the phone urged the others, "Don’t listen to them! They’re trying to break us. Hold on! Help will come."

At that moment, a burst of golden light appeared on the road nearby.

Adam and Tayo materialized, their presence cutting through the darkness.

Adam’s sharp gaze scanned the scene, quickly taking in the dire situation.

"Twenty vampires," he muttered. "Tayo, can you handle them?"

Tayo nodded confidently. "Leave it to me."

Adam hesitated. "No stealth this time. They need to see you, to know someone’s here to help."

Understanding, Tayo deactivated her semi-transparent state.

Her radiant golden form became fully visible, her light illuminating the area.

The vampires paused, momentarily stunned by her brilliance.

Adam opened his skill interface and activated an ability to enhance Tayo’s visibility to everyone. A confirmation window appeared before him:

Without hesitation, Adam selected Yes.

Tayo’s golden glow intensified, her figure now unmistakable. She looked back at Adam, who nodded.

"It’s your time to shine," he said, stepping back.

Tayo’s wings spread wide as she flew toward the vampires, her radiant light a symbol of hope.

The Chapter ends as Tayo dives into the fray, ready to unleash her full power.
