Chapter 88: The Union
Chapter 88: The Union
Outside the mall, the tension was palpable. Survivors, having just escaped the confines of the building, froze in place as their gazes fixed on the figure of a vampire standing upright.
Fear coursed through the crowd, and many instinctively stepped back.
Adam, observing the scene from a distance, deactivated his telekinesis skill.
Hidden behind his mask, his sharp eyes scanned the unfolding events, his posture calm yet vigilant.
The crowd’s attention shifted entirely to the vampire. He stared at his hands, his expression a mix of confusion and astonishment. His voice, filled with shock, pierced the air.
"I’ve turned back into a human! I’m human again!"
The declaration sent ripples of disbelief through the onlookers.
Whispers broke out, but their murmurs were silenced as more vampires began to stir.
One after another, they stood, inspecting their hands, their faces etched with bewilderment.
"I’ve changed too!"
"The hunger... it’s gone. I don’t feel the urge to drink blood anymore!"
The humans, initially terrified, were now frozen in confusion. What they witnessed was unprecedented.
The former vampires—once terrifying predators—were now indistinguishable from ordinary people.
Hovering above the crowd, Tayo emanated a golden light that shimmered faintly, casting an ethereal glow over the scene.
Her small figure floated gracefully, her radiant presence a stark contrast to the chaos below.
A young streamer captured everything on his live broadcast.
His trembling hands held the camera steady as he zoomed in on the vampires-turned-humans and the glowing figure of Tayo above them.
The scene had already spread to television networks, capturing global attention.
---
With hesitant steps, the young man made his way toward Tayo. Adjusting his camera slightly, he made sure to include himself and the radiant figure in the frame.
"Excuse me, fairy," he began nervously, "may I ask you some questions?"
Tayo’s glowing eyes turned toward him, her expression calm and composed. Around them, the crowd shifted uneasily, their attention drawn to the exchange.
Tayo floated closer, descending slightly until she was at eye level with the young man. The golden light around her dimmed just enough to make her approachable.
"Yes," she replied in a soft yet commanding tone.
The boy swallowed hard, then introduced himself. "My name is Lin. What should I call you?"
"My name is Tayo," she answered simply. "I am a power-holder, like many others."
Lin’s brows furrowed in surprise. "Power-holder? Are you saying you’re part of The commission?"
Tayo inclined her head slightly, a faint smile gracing her lips. "No, I am a member of The Union. Much like the Commission have their members, we too have ours. However, our mission is not one of control. We exist to help those who suffer and call upon us for aid."
Her calm demeanor and words sent a wave of curiosity through the crowd.
---
Lin hesitated before asking, "What did you just do? These vampires—they’ve turned back into humans. Was that you?"
Tayo nodded. "I restored their humanity. The darkness that once consumed them is no more. They will never revert to their vampiric state."
Gasps rippled through the crowd. People turned their eyes toward the former vampires, who now stood among them, bewildered but undeniably human.
Lin, his skepticism evident, approached one of them—a middle-aged man who had been among the first to change.
"Sir," Lin asked cautiously, "how do you feel? Are you truly human again?"
The man looked down at his hands, his voice trembling as he replied. "Yes... I don’t feel the hunger anymore. There’s no voice in my head urging me to drink blood. I feel... normal."
Lin cannot believe what he is hearing and seeing, it seems like a dream to him, he has seen such things in movies and anime but this is the first time he is seeing it in real life.
Lin stepped back, astonished. He turned to Tayo. "You really did this? You can make vampires human again?"
Tayo’s expression remained steady as she replied. "Yes. Their transformation is complete. They are free."
The crowd erupted into murmurs, a mixture of awe and relief. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, hope flickered in their eyes.
Lin, emboldened by Tayo’s presence, continued. "Can you tell us more about The Union? People are going to want answers."
Tayo placed a hand over her chest, her golden aura pulsing faintly. "We are an organization of power-holders who seek to protect those in need. Many of us did not choose this path, but we have accepted it. Our goal is to ensure balance and safeguard humanity from those who would misuse power."
Lin tilted his head. "If your mission is to protect, why are you revealing yourselves now? Could you guys have come earlier?"
Lin cannot understand that only after the first power holder has appeared, all the other power holders are coming out to show their power to the world.
Tayo’s gaze hardened slightly, though her voice remained gentle. "We did not wish to reveal ourselves. However, the emergence of other power-holders with darker intentions has forced our hand. To counter their actions, we must step into the light."
Her words left Lin and the crowd silent, the weight of the revelation settling over them.
Before Lin could ask more, Tayo raised a hand, signaling for quiet. She looked around at the gathered crowd and spoke firmly.
"Today, you have seen what is possible. The darkness can be overcome, and humanity can be restored. But this is only the beginning. There is much work to be done."
Tayo flaps her wings and goes up in the air. There is a golden glow all around her which is emanating outwards and everything is shining in the darkness of the night.
The crowd watched as Tayo began to rise once more, her golden light intensifying. Lin turned his camera back to her, ensuring the moment was captured for the world to see.
And with that, the Chapter ended, leaving the crowd—and the world—grappling with the implications of Tayo’s actions and the hope she had ignited.
