Chapter 82: A New Dawn
The long corridor was shrouded in silence, broken only by the faint hum of electricity in the air.
Adam stood firm, cloaked in his signature attire, the edges of his mask casting sharp shadows against his chiseled face. Beside him,
Tayo hovered gracefully, her translucent wings shimmering faintly with a golden hue.
The tension in the air was palpable as a vampire, its eyes glowing an ominous red, charged toward Adam with feral intensity.
"Matter State!" Tayo’s voice rang out, clear and commanding.
In an instant, her body became a shimmering, translucent form, almost ghost-like.
Without hesitation, she darted straight through the vampire, her ethereal figure passing through its snarling, clawed body.
The creature froze mid-lunge, confusion flashing in its predatory eyes. Then, as Tayo reemerged behind it, a horrifying transformation began.
The vampire’s skin sizzled and crackled as though set alight from within.
Dark, gnarled patches peeled away, exposing raw, blistering flesh underneath.
The beast let out a guttural scream, collapsing onto the cold, dusty floor. Clutching its head in agony, it writhed, clawing at its face as the disintegration spread.
Adam observed in calculated silence, his mask hiding the flicker of satisfaction in his eyes.
Tayo floated back to his side, her presence a stark contrast to the chaos around them. "It’s done," she murmured, her voice tinged with determination.
The vampire’s transformation continued. The burning flesh seemed to regenerate, but not into the monstrous visage it once bore.
Instead, smooth, human skin formed in its place. The elongated fangs melted away, replaced by ordinary teeth.
The vampire’s grotesque claws retracted, leaving behind normal, human nails.
Even its eyes, once blood-red and predatory, returned to a deep, natural brown.
The figure now lying on the floor was no longer a vampire but a man—breathing heavily, trembling, and bewildered.
The man slowly raised his trembling hands, staring at them as though they belonged to someone else. His voice, now free of the guttural rasp of the undead, cracked with disbelief.
"I... I don’t hear the voices anymore," he whispered, his tone drenched in relief. His eyes filled with tears as he looked up at Adam. "The hunger... it’s gone. You—did you do this? Did you save me?"
Adam took a step closer, his imposing figure radiating authority. His voice, muffled but resolute through the mask, carried an air of finality. "There’s no time for questions. You’re human again. Leave this place before more trouble finds you."
Still dazed, the man nodded, gratitude spilling from his eyes. Adam, however, showed no signs of lingering sentiment.
With a swift motion, he guided the man toward the door and tossed him outside, as though discarding a weight that no longer belonged in this dark world.
Behind him, the remaining two vampires stood frozen in shock. Their crimson eyes darted between the now-human figure and Adam, their disbelief evident.
One of the vampires, a woman with ash-pale skin and dark hair matted with sweat, fell to her knees. "Please," she cried out, her voice trembling. "Whoever you are... whatever power you hold... change us too. We can’t bear this curse any longer."
The second vampire, a man with gaunt features and hollowed cheeks, quickly followed suit, his voice breaking as he spoke. "We didn’t choose this. We didn’t want to become monsters. Please, help us."
Adam’s sharp gaze flickered with a trace of surprise. Vampires—beings of cunning and cruelty—begging for redemption? He exchanged a glance with Tayo, who hovered silently by his side, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the situation.
Through their telepathic connection, Adam’s voice echoed in Tayo’s mind. "Heal the woman first. Let’s see how this plays out."
Tayo nodded and floated toward the unconscious middle-aged woman slumped against the wall. Her delicate features bore signs of exhaustion, and her pallor revealed the toll the vampires’ predation had taken.
---
Hovering over the woman, Tayo extended her hand, her voice soft yet resolute. "Gentle Touch."
A radiant golden light enveloped her palm, cascading over the woman’s frail body. The light seeped into her skin, bringing a warm, restorative energy.
The woman stirred faintly, her eyelids fluttering as color returned to her cheeks.
Her breathing steadied, and she opened her eyes slowly, confusion giving way to relief as she felt life coursing through her veins once more.
Satisfied, Adam issued his next command telepathically. "Now, deal with the vampires."
Tayo’s translucent form shifted once more as she floated toward the two pleading vampires.
Without hesitation, she phased through each of them in turn, her ethereal presence igniting the same searing reaction as before.
---
The vampires screamed in agony as their skin burned and peeled away, the dark essence of their curse dissipating.
Their claws and fangs melted into nothingness, leaving behind the forms of two ordinary humans. They collapsed onto the floor, panting heavily, their faces streaked with tears.
The man looked at his hands, his voice trembling with joy. "The voices... they’re gone."
The woman clasped her chest, her lips quivering. "No more hunger. I feel... free."
They turned to Adam, their gratitude overwhelming. "Thank you," they whispered in unison, bowing deeply.
Adam’s voice, calm and commanding, cut through their relief. "You can’t stay here. Leave now, before others find out what happened. If the authorities catch you, you’ll be nothing more than experiments to them."
Nodding fervently, the two newly human figures rose to their feet.
They glanced at each other, their expressions a mix of disbelief and hope, before hurrying out of the building.
As the room fell silent once more, Tayo returned to Adam’s side. "Lord Adam," she began, her voice tinged with curiosity, but Adam raised a hand to silence her.
The woman they had healed stirred, her movements slow and deliberate as she tried to sit up.
Adam gestured for Tayo to remain quiet. Once the woman was stable, he teleported her and Tayo back to his room, leaving behind the dark, decrepit house.
---
Adam sank to the floor of his room, removing his mask and tossing it onto the bed. His expression softened as he looked at Tayo. "You did well today," he said simply.
A rare smile graced Tayo’s lips. "For your praise, Lord Adam, I’d do anything."
Adam glanced at her, but before he could respond, Tayo spoke again, her tone suddenly serious. "Lord Adam, I’ve learned something. Those vampires—they weren’t acting alone. I’ve caught the scent of the ones who turned them. I can find them."
Adam’s eyes gleamed with a dangerous light. A slow smile spread across his face. "Good," he said. "I have a plan."
Tayo tilted her head, curiosity sparking in her golden eyes. "What plan?"
Adam leaned forward, his voice dropping to a low, ominous whisper. "You’ll see."
And with that, the Chapter came to a close, leaving the room thick with anticipation for the storm yet to come.
