Chapter 74: Calm Before The Storm

Adam stepped into his room after the lively celebration with his family, his mind burdened despite the joyful evening.

Across the room, Sona sat on her bed, nibbling on a piece of leftover cake. A faint chuckle escaped Adam as he noticed her; she looked adorable, lost in her little indulgence.

Sona, sensing his gaze, froze mid-bite. Her bright eyes darted toward him as she extended the cake in her hand, her words muffled through a mouthful, "Do you want some too?"

Adam raised an eyebrow, his expression softening. He turned away, shaking his head lightly. "No, you can have it," he replied, his voice calm yet distant.

Sona shrugged, resuming her munching with a satisfied grin, while Adam settled at his desk. He pulled his chair back and sat down, his gaze shifting to the glowing monitor.

Thoughts churned in his head like a restless storm. "I need to find a solution," he muttered to himself, his fingers hesitating above the keyboard. "This threat... it’s too big to ignore."

To clear his mind, Adam opened a game on his PC. His hands instinctively moved across the controls, seeking solace in the familiar rhythm of gameplay.

Yet, no matter how hard he tried, his unease lingered like an unwelcome guest. Hours slipped by, the clock ticking toward midnight when a voice echoed from downstairs.

"Adam, dinner is ready! Come down!" Rachel’s warm call broke his concentration.

Adam sighed, shutting down his game. He descended the stairs to find his parents waiting for him at the dining table.

They exchanged glances, their concern evident but unspoken. Knowing how fragile his mood was, they carefully avoided mentioning the incident at school.

Dinner passed quietly, and Adam soon returned to his room, lying on his bed. His eyes traced the patterns on the ceiling as his thoughts spiraled back to the chaotic events of the day. "Why did it have to turn out this way?"

His phone buzzed, pulling him from his reverie. The screen flashed a familiar name—Ani.

Sona glanced at the phone and said softly, "Talk to her. It might make you feel better."

Encouraged, Adam picked up the call. A gentle voice greeted him from the other end. "Adam, are you okay?"

He hesitated for a moment before replying, "That’s what I should be asking you. How are you feeling now?"

Ani’s voice carried a tinge of relief. "I’m fine, thanks to you. It was just a minor scratch. Your handkerchief stopped the bleeding."

Adam exhaled deeply, a small smile tugging at his lips. "I’m glad it wasn’t serious."

Ani giggled lightly, her tone playful. "But your handkerchief got completely ruined. I feel bad about it."

"Don’t worry about that," Adam reassured her. "It doesn’t matter as long as you’re okay."

There was a pause before Ani spoke again, her voice tinged with nervousness. "I was wondering... would you come to the mall with me tomorrow? I’d like to get you a new one."

Adam chuckled softly. "Are you asking me out on a date, Ani?"

Ani, sitting in her room dressed in cozy nightwear, blushed furiously. "If that’s how you want to see it... sure," she replied with a mix of shyness and humor.

Adam laughed, his spirits lifting. "How could I refuse?"

Ani’s voice grew softer. "Thank you, Adam. And don’t beat yourself up about what happened. None of it was your fault."

Her words felt like a soothing balm, easing the weight on his heart. "Thanks, Ani," Adam said sincerely. "I needed to hear that."

"I brightened Adam’s mood! I feel so good," Ani thinks.

After the call ended, Adam felt lighter, the tension in his chest easing.

He lay back on his bed, closing his eyes as sleep gradually claimed him.

While Adam slept, unaware of the unrest brewing in the city, chaos unfolded in the shadows. Somewhere in the heart of the urban sprawl, murmurs of a growing threat spread like wildfire.

Morning Routine

At precisely 6:00 AM, Adam’s alarm buzzed. His hand shot out to silence it before it could disturb the peace of his room.

Stretching, he sat up, his mind already focused on the day ahead. After changing into his workout gear, he slipped out quietly, ensuring he didn’t wake Sona, who was still sound asleep.

Downstairs, his parents were getting ready for work. Adam greeted them with a soft "Good morning" before stepping out into the crisp morning air.

He jogged to the nearby park, his movements deliberate and intense.

Every push-up, sit-up, and lap around the park carried his frustration, channeling it into physical exertion.

Sweat drenched his clothes, but he pushed on, his determination unwavering. "I can do more," he thought, his breaths heavy but resolute.

After an hour and a half, Adam returned home, his muscles aching but his mind clearer. His parents were seated at the table, waiting for him to join them for breakfast.

Rachel glanced at him with a reassuring smile. "Don’t worry about school incident. Everything will work out."

Adam nodded, appreciating their effort to lift his spirits. His parents soon left for work, leaving behind a warm meal in the fridge for him.

Back in his room, Adam noticed Sona stirring. He gently nudged her shoulder, causing her to blink awake. She rubbed her eyes, stretching lazily. "Is it morning already?"

Adam smirked. "Yes, sunshine. You overslept again."

Sona pouted. "Did you have breakfast without me?!"

Adam chuckled, holding out a plate he had saved for her. "Relax. I kept some for you."

Sona sat at the table, munching happily as Adam picked up his phone to call Ani.

However, she didn’t answer. He tried again but received no response. Frowning, he muttered, "Maybe she’s still asleep."

Deciding not to dwell on it, Adam left Sona to finish her meal and headed downstairs. He turned on the TV, the morning sunlight streaming through the windows, as his thoughts wandered to the day ahead.
