Chapter 73: The Upcoming War

Chapter 73: The Upcoming War

The warm afternoon sun bathed the school grounds as Adam walked out of the nurse’s office, his mind clouded with thoughts.

The recent events had left him shaken, his emotions tangled in worry and frustration. He scanned the grounds for Ani but found no sign of her.

Desperation rising, he pulled his phone out of his pocket, his fingers trembling slightly as he unlocked it.

A notification popped up—a message from Ani. Opening it, he read:

"I’m heading home with my parents. If you’re looking for me at school, you won’t find me. I’ll talk to you in the evening."

Adam let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding, the tension in his chest easing ever so slightly.

Yet, unease lingered. He walked to the school gate and sat on its cold metal steps, his head bowed as he tried to process everything.

"Was I so reckless?" he muttered under his breath, his voice heavy with self-reproach.

"I let a vampire get so close to the people I care about, and I didn’t even notice. How could I let this happen?"

He ran a hand through his hair, his frustration mounting. The pieces of the puzzle seemed scattered, and no matter how hard he tried, they wouldn’t fit.

He whispered, almost to himself, "I thought everyone with powers would go at the same pace as me. But I was wrong. People are advancing rapidly, and I don’t even know what powers they have or how dangerous this city has become. And now, vampires..."

His thoughts spiraled further until a sudden realization struck him. His parents.

Without hesitation, Adam reached out telepathically. "Sona, can you hear me?"

A soft, reassuring voice echoed in his mind. "Yes, Lord Adam, I can hear you."

"Have you reached home safely? Are my parents okay?"

"Yes, Lord Adam. They’re safe. As soon as you left, the teachers ensured all the parents were sent home. There’s no need to worry."

Relief washed over him like a wave. "Stay with them, Sona. Protect them."

"As you command, Lord Adam," Sona replied firmly.

Adam leaned back against the gate, closing his eyes briefly. The assurance of his family’s safety brought some peace, but the storm within him raged on.

The sound of footsteps broke Adam’s reverie. He turned to see his three friends—Eric, Leo, and Cole—approaching him, their faces marked with concern.

They sat down beside him, the weight of unspoken fears hanging heavily in the air.

Eric broke the silence. "If this is real, if vampires truly exist... the whole world is in danger."

Leo nodded grimly. "You don’t understand, Eric. They turned one of our classmates into a vampire, and no one even noticed. We don’t know who they are or where they’re hiding."

Adam listened quietly, his gaze fixed on the ground.

Finally, Leo turned to him. "Adam, what do you think?"

Adam stood abruptly, his jaw tightening. "This isn’t the time for talking," he said, his voice resolute.

He turned to face them. "We can’t just sit around. That girl could’ve been anyone, and we need to do something about it."

Eric shook his head. "But what can we do?"

Adam clenched his fists. "You can’t do anything, but I can." Without another word, he walked away, leaving the trio stunned.

Eric sighed. "What’s gotten into him?"

Leo stood, watching Adam’s retreating figure. "Leave him be. Let’s head home and wait for updates from the school. It’s all we can do for now."

Reluctantly, Eric and Cole agreed, the three of them heading off in the opposite direction.

The scene shifted to a dark, dimly lit room. Shadows danced across the walls, the faint glow of a single light revealing the sinister presence of the Vampire Lord, Hanabi.

His white hair gleamed eerily, and his crimson eyes burned with a predatory hunger that sent chills down the spine of anyone who dared to meet his gaze.

Behind him stood three of his most trusted generals—the Diamond Generals.

Sophia, a woman with flowing violet hair and blood-red eyes, stood directly behind Hanabi, her posture elegant and commanding.

On Hanabi’s right was Ethan, a tall figure with jet-black hair and glasses that reflected the dim light, his sharp features giving him an air of cold intellect.

To Hanabi’s left stood Brain, his fiery red hair contrasting sharply with his tan skin and equally red eyes, his presence exuding raw power and aggression.

Before them knelt a middle-aged man with dark hair—Ronnie. Behind him were three others, their heads bowed in submission.

"My dear Vampire Lord," Ronnie began, his voice steady despite the oppressive aura in the room.

"According to your plan, we’ve made significant progress. We now have over 2,000 lower-level vampires, 150 mid-level vampires, and 100 high-level vampires, in addition to the three Diamond Generals. This army is enough to instill fear in anyone."

Hanabi nodded slowly, a pleased smile spreading across his face. "You’ve done well, Ronnie. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed."

Ronnie bowed deeply, a hint of pride in his expression. "It’s my honor, Lord Hanabi."

Hanabi turned to Ethan. "We’ve survived in silence long enough. It’s time to step out of the shadows."

Ethan adjusted his glasses, a smirk playing on his lips. "Yes, Hanabi. You’re right." He stepped forward, addressing Ronnie. "Tell our underlings to stop holding back. Let them do as they please."

Hanabi’s laughter echoed through the room, dark and foreboding. "Let the world know... the Vampire Lord has emerged."

Adam arrived home, exhaustion and frustration etched into his features. As he stepped through the gate, his parents, Rachel and Ricky, were already waiting for him.

Rachel rushed to embrace him. "Are you okay, Adam? You’re not hurt, are you?"

Adam managed a small smile. "I’m fine, Mom. Nothing happened."

Ricky’s stern voice cut through the moment. "You shouldn’t have jumped in like that, son. What if they’d attacked you?"

Adam turned to his father, his eyes burning with resolve. "If you were in my place, you would’ve done the same."

Ricky sighed deeply, relenting. "Fine. But have you eaten? The tournament might’ve been cut short, but we’re still celebrating your win in the race."

Rachel’s face lit up. "Yes! Our son won—we’re celebrating no matter what!"

Though Adam had little interest in celebrating, he couldn’t bring himself to dampen their spirits. He nodded, forcing a smile.

In the kitchen, Rachel served Adam his favorite dish, her eyes brimming with pride. Adam ate quietly, his parents’ cheerful chatter filling the room.

For a moment, he let himself forget the chaos outside, cherishing the warmth of his family.

But deep down, he knew this peace wouldn’t last.
