Chapter 223: The Warning
Chapter: The Warning
The room was thick with tension as Adam sat frozen, his mind spinning from the ominous words he had just heard.
The voice on the other end of the call lingered in his thoughts, its calmness laced with malice.
Adam struggled to process the situation—was this a bluff, or was the caller truly capable of what he claimed?
A cold resolve began to settle over Adam as he realized the seriousness in the man’s tone. This was no ordinary threat.
He took a deep breath, his voice calm but deliberate as he spoke into the phone, "Why contact me directly? What do you want from me?"
On the other end, the unknown caller chuckled softly. The sound was unnerving, a mixture of amusement and condescension.
"Because, Adam," the caller began, "I enjoy crushing those who consider themselves almighty and powerful. Since childhood, I’ve taken pleasure in watching the so-called invincible fall. And you, Adam, are my biggest challenge yet. Your power, your creations, your world—I will crush them, one by one, and bring you to your knees."
Adam’s jaw tightened. He could feel the weight of each word, designed to unnerve him.
His violet eyes flickered with a determined glint as he leaned forward in his chair. Without a moment’s hesitation, he telepathically reached out to Pratham.
"Pratham, trace this call. Quickly!"
But no response came.
Adam’s brow furrowed in confusion. It wasn’t like Pratham to ignore him. He tried again. "Pratham, can you hear me? Reply!"
Still, nothing.
The voice on the phone chuckled again, this time louder. "It’s useless, Adam. You can summon your creations all you want, but they won’t answer. Not now."
The words sent a chill down Adam’s spine. His grip on the phone tightened. "Who are you? How do you know this?" Adam demanded, his voice sharp with disbelief.
Adam cannot understand how this unknown caller knows about his skill and how he knows so much about Adam. Nothing seems right to him.
Usually Adam stays hidden, but this unknown caller knows everything about Adam which makes him very weak against this unknown caller.
"I know everything, Adam," the man replied smoothly. "You think you’re safe, hidden behind your walls, controlling everything from the shadows. But you don’t understand the depth of the situation you’re in. You think I’m far away, don’t you? But I’m not. I can see you right now. I can even read your thoughts."
Adam’s heart skipped a beat. He shot to his feet, his chair scraping loudly against the floor as he walked to the window, his eyes scanning the darkened city outside.
His movements were almost instinctual, driven by a sense of vulnerability he hadn’t felt in years.
The caller’s laughter echoed through the phone. "Ah, Adam," the voice said mockingly, "your paranoia is delightful. Look all you want—it won’t change a thing."
The man’s tone shifted slightly, becoming more taunting.
"You enjoy controlling things from the shadows, don’t you? Watching from a distance, pulling the strings, protecting your precious creations. So go ahead, Adam. Try to save them. Especially your creations, who are so weak and scattered across the city. I could kill them all right now if I wanted to."
Adam’s breath hitched, his hands curling into fists.
"But no," the man continued, "that wouldn’t be any fun, would it? I enjoy breaking the pride of powerful men like you, Adam. And I will break yours too. I promise you that."
Adam remained silent, his mind racing with possibilities.
"I’ll give you two days," the caller said suddenly, his tone shifting to one of cold finality. "Two days to figure out where I’ll strike first—your friends, your creations, or maybe your family. Two days to try and protect them. And then, Adam, I will attack. Let’s see how good you are at protecting the ones you care about."
The words hit Adam like a hammer, his chest tightening as the weight of the challenge settled over him. He finally found his voice, his tone laced with suspicion. "You... you’re the Cosmic Being, aren’t you?"
Adam has no doubts now, he is completely convinced that this is none other than the Cosmic Being. He knows that at the moment there is only one power holder who has so much ability that he can challenge Adam.
The man laughed again, the sound low and sinister. "Two days, Adam. Let’s see if you’re worthy of the title ’Creator of New Species.’"
With that, the line went dead, leaving Adam standing alone in his dimly lit room, the silence more deafening than any words could be.
Adam stood motionless, his hand still clutching the phone as if it were the last tether to a crumbling reality. The room felt suffocating, his thoughts trapped in an endless loop of the Cosmic Being’s ominous words. Two days... Two days until the attack begins.
With a deep, unsteady breath, Adam muttered to himself, "Two days... Yes, he said two days. But why do I feel like he’s already started?" His voice was barely audible, tinged with disbelief.
Suddenly, as if trying to snap himself out of it, Adam slapped both sides of his face with his palms. The sharp sound echoed in the quiet room. "This is no time to panic," he told himself sternly. "I need to act."
Adam descended the stairs to join his parents, who were already seated at the dinner table. The aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, but Adam barely noticed it.
He forced himself to sit and eat, his mind elsewhere. His parents exchanged concerned glances but chose not to disturb him.
Once dinner was over, Adam excused himself and returned to his room. His mind raced with plans and countermeasures, but before he could focus, a telepathic message from Pratham interrupted his thoughts.
"Lord Adam," Pratham’s voice came through, tense and hurried. "The facility I was using to manufacture the equipment and robots—an unknown explosion destroyed it moments ago. The entire manufacturing unit has been obliterated."
The news hit Adam like a hammer. He froze for a moment, his eyes widening. "But... he said two days. He promised two days!" he exclaimed aloud, pacing back and forth. His thoughts churned. How could I trust the word of someone who intends to destroy everything I care about?
Adam shook his head, dismissing his initial shock. "I can’t waste time relying on promises," he muttered. "He’s my enemy, and I need a solution—fast."
Pratham’s voice cut through his thoughts again. "Lord Adam, when the attack occurred, I attempted to contact everyone, but I couldn’t reach anyone. I was inside the Internet Dimension with Mikasa, and the disturbances I encountered there were unlike anything I’ve ever seen."
The gravity of the situation was becoming clearer. Adam clenched his fists. Even our strongest connections are being tampered with...
Before Adam could respond, Sona and Tayo entered the room. Their expressions were a mix of fear and urgency.
Sona flew straight to Adam, her golden wings gleaming faintly in the dim light. "Lord Adam," she said, her voice trembling slightly, "why weren’t you responding? I’ve been trying to reach you!"
Adam raised his hand to calm her. "Don’t worry, Sona," he said. "Tell me—has the telepathic link been reestablished?"
Sona nodded, relief evident in her eyes. "Yes, I can communicate with everyone again now."
Adam sighed in momentary relief. "Good. Call everyone back. We need to regroup immediately."
Sona and Tayo exchanged serious glances before teleporting away to carry out Adam’s command.
Soon, the entire team was gathered in Adam’s room. Sona, Tayo, Ninja, and even Zero stood silently, their faces etched with concern.
On Adam’s monitor, the digital avatars of Pratham and Mikasa appeared, their holographic forms radiating faint light.
Adam sat in his chair, his violet eyes scanning the faces of his creations. "My dear companions," he began, his voice steady but somber,
"I need you to understand something. This enemy we face is unlike anything we’ve ever encountered. He’s powerful—so powerful that he temporarily severed our telepathic link and attacked Pratham’s manufacturing unit."
The room fell silent. All eyes turned to the monitor behind Adam, where Pratham nodded gravely.
A new window opened, displaying footage of the destroyed facility. Twisted metal, shattered circuits, and scorched debris were all that remained.
"This is the last footage from the facility," Pratham explained. "The blast was sudden and precise. It left no survivors, and all our equipment is gone. I couldn’t even regain control before it was too late."
The visuals were devastating, and the weight of the situation settled heavily over everyone in the room.
Adam’s mind raced as he stared at the screen. He’s not waiting two days to strike. He’s already started...
With this grim realization, Adam’s resolve hardened. He turned to his companions, his voice firm. "We don’t have the luxury of time. We must act now."
The tension in the room was palpable, and the Chapter ended with Adam’s unspoken determination hanging in the air like a storm about to break.
