Chapter 116: The Commission vs The Union - Part 2
---
The clash of titans continued in the vast industrial complex, its shadowed corridors reverberating with the hum of distant machinery.
Adam had disappeared from Hang’s immediate sight, prompting the latter to frantically scan his surroundings. The tension was palpable.
Just then, Gus’s voice broke through the chaos. "Hang, look up!" Gus pointed toward the ceiling, his tone laced with urgency. Hang instinctively tilted his head back, and his heart skipped a beat as he spotted Adam descending rapidly, his hand outstretched, glowing with palpable telekinetic energy.
"Telekinesis!" Adam’s voice boomed as a force, immense and concentrated, erupted from his hand. The power rippled outward like an invisible wave, surging toward Hang with crushing intensity.
Before the telekinetic wave could reach Hang, Atlas intervened. Standing several meters away, Atlas raised his hand, summoning a nearly imperceptible barrier around Hang. The wave collided with the barrier, dispersing in all directions like a shattered glass sphere, the raw force dissipating harmlessly into the air.
Adam landed gracefully atop the barrier, his black attire billowing with residual energy. His masked face betrayed no emotion, but his stance spoke volumes—he was ready to dominate.
Atlas, unfazed, extended his hand toward the barrier. With precise control, he manipulated it into a shimmering sphere, trapping Adam within its confines. Adam’s immediate reaction was to assess the structure. Before he could act, Gus sprinted forward, his eyes locked on Adam.
Placing his hand against the barrier, Gus muttered, "Absorb."
The sphere began to shrink as Adam’s body was drawn toward Gus’s outstretched palm. His form seemed to liquefy, merging into Gus’s hand like water being absorbed into a sponge.
But Adam wasn’t done yet. His voice, calm and commanding, echoed through the space. "Teleportation."
In an instant, his body re-materialized several feet away, free from the barrier’s grasp.

Hang breathing was controlled, his movements deliberate. Yet, his sharp eyes caught something—Zora, standing frozen in the distance.
Zora hadn’t moved. His face was a storm of conflicting emotions. Tears streamed down his cheeks as his body trembled, caught between terror and despair. His usual aura of arrogant, calculation had crumbled under the weight of whatever he was experiencing.
Without hesitation, hang bolted toward Zora, his steps echoing across the metallic floor.
Meanwhile, Gus activated his sensory ability. His eyes scanned the environment, sharp and predatory, searching for Adam. Suddenly, his gaze snapped backward. His eyes widened in shock.
"atlass!" Gus gasped, pointing behind Atlas.
Atlas turned sharply, dismantling the spherical barrier he had just formed.
In its place, he conjured another barrier in front of himself with blinding speed, hoping to block an anticipated strike.
Atlas expects Adam to attack him and his barrier is the perfect counter to it, so he has already created a barrier around himself without looking back.
But Adam wasn’t aiming for Atlas’s body. He was targeting his mind.
"Nightmare," Adam said, his voice low yet resonating with an otherworldly authority.
Adam’s eyes glow with white light while his hand is extended forward towards Atlas, Adam’s skill Nightmare becomes active.
Atlas felt it immediately. The space around him darkened as an unnatural shadow engulfed his vision. The last thing he saw was Adam’s eyes, glowing ominously through the encroaching blackness.
Panic surged through Atlas. His once-impenetrable confidence wavered as he staggered backward, clawing at the darkness around him. "What... what is this?" he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.
There is darkness all around Atlas, as far as he can see there is only darkness, he is not able to see anything, neither Adam nor his friends.
Suddenly, the ground beneath him cracked. The fissures spread rapidly, their jagged edges glowing faintly as they snaked outward. The floor beneath his feet gave way entirely, leaving him plummeting into an abyss of infinite black.
Atlas tries to look towards the other side of the trench but he cannot see anything. He keeps falling and his heart is beating very fast.
Atlas’s screams echoed in the void. "Hang! Gus! What’s happening to me?!"
Despite the protective barrier still encasing his body, the sensation of falling gripped him. The darkness seemed endless, amplifying his most primal fear: heights.
---
Outside the illusion, Hang and Gus observed Atlas. He stood motionless, his eyes wide and vacant, frozen in a nightmarish trance.
Gus runs towards Atlas, shouting"You won’t survive, stay away from Atlas."
Hang wasted no time. He raised his hand, mimicking a finger gun. A concentrated beam of light shot forth, searing through the air with incredible speed, aimed directly at Adam.
Sensing the attack, Adam teleported once more. The effort was visible in his movements now. He reappeared further away, crouching and breathing heavily, his stamina waning.
Seeing that Adam has teleported again, Gus activates his sensory skills to find Adam.
Gus and Hang pursued him relentlessly, their synchronization a testament to their teamwork. Gus prepared another sensory pulse while Hang conjured another light attack.
This time, Adam wasn’t quick enough. The light beam pierced through his arm, leaving a gaping wound. Blood flowed freely, staining his dark attire as he stumbled backward. Pain seared through his arm, and he clutched the injury tightly, his mind racing.
But then Adam activates his teleportation skill again and runs away from there.
---
In the distance, Hang and Gus regrouped. Hang’s eyes darted around, searching for Adam’s next move. "Where is he?!" he barked.
Gus activated his sensory ability again but shook his head in frustration. "I can’t find him. He’s... he’s masking his presence somehow."
On the roof of a nearby structure, Adam appeared once more. He collapsed onto the cold surface, his breath ragged, his body screaming for respite. Blood dripped from his wounded arm, pooling on the ground beneath him.
Adam leaned against his knees, muttering under his breath. "Their attacks... they’re too precise. I can’t read their thoughts, not like the others. It’s throwing me off."
His vision blurred slightly as exhaustion took hold. Yet, despite the odds, a faint determination flickered in his eyes. He wasn’t done—not yet.
