I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 412 - 410: White House Crisis

Chapter 412: Chapter 410: White House Crisis

Evening.

Leng Kai held two cans of Dr. Pepper, standing at the entrance of the cinema.

The streets thronged with people and vehicles, few with black hair.

Protestors carrying signs with a crossed-out photo of Old Bideng passed by, another sign read "Step Down."

In Georgetown, protests burst forth from time to time, opposing different concerns on different days—today they demand the House of Representatives be closed, tomorrow a governance step down, the day after, they push for communism.

Protestors often confronted county police in front of the White House, pelting stones, brawling, resulting in severe injuries; the media would then gloss over the events, parading few county police apologies and dismissals.

Having stayed in the Sethiyan Federation for over two years, Leng Kai was no longer surprised.

He waited nearly 15 minutes before Wang Mingxue finally arrived in her sports car. She rolled down the window, smiling, "Sorry, I’m a bit late."

Leng Kai tilted his head, saying, "No rush, it still has 10 minutes to start."

Wang Mingxue smiled, drove to the parking lot to park the car, and Leng Kai glanced at his Dr. Pepper cans, snorting.

When they entered the theater, the movie had already started—though fortunately, the beginning wasn’t worth watching.

Wang Mingxue still dressed in her unfeminine attire, jeans with a T-shirt, but driving a million-dollar sports car which puzzled Leng Kai.

She seemed to be from a military family; even if she wanted to gold-plate her resume, there was no need to accompany him on dangerous missions.

Moreover, he was unsure what Wang Mingxue meant by asking him to the movies.

Was it a date?

She looked quite young...no... rather young, but her body was mature and robust; Leng Kai guessed she was around 24 or 25.

And himself? Already in his 30s, and financially much worse off, decidedly mismatched.

However, he chuckled self-deprecatingly, feeling he might be overthinking.

He then started pondering about Wei Tianyang.

Although the information was classified, during his two years at the headquarters, he had occasionally heard rumors about this man.

Wei Tianyang’s reputation wasn’t good—his tales often accompanied by words like "out of control," "mass civilian casualties," "deviated from mission objectives."

He hadn’t met Wei Tianyang but had come into real contact with him, though he had been unconscious at the time.

This only made him more curious about the man.

After the movie, they stepped outside to a dazzling starry sky; the streets were jammed with motionless cars, about a dozen police cars with flashing lights wailed on the spot. Leng Kai looked toward the street corner and saw county police setting up barriers, sealing off the entire street.

Many people on the streets discussed and took pictures with their phones.

"What’s happening?" Wang Mingxue asked a passerby.

"Didn’t you check on Yiyale? There’s supposed to be a monster ahead!" the passerby said.

"Monster?" Leng Kai was somewhat astonished.

He took out his phone and logged onto Yiyale, switching to the local recommendation.

At that moment, a series of netizen short videos popped into view, titles like "Saw a Monster" and "There’s a Monster Around the White House."

But these videos were unwatchable, prompting a 404 error when clicked.

Yet, this was definitely not some prank or lie; Leng Kai soon heard the sound of military helicopters.

He looked up just in time to see four Valkyrie armed helicopters sweeping over his head toward the direction of the White House.

More and more onlookers gathered on the streets. Leng Kai pulled Wang Mingxue into the cinema to take shelter temporarily, suddenly the outside roared with noise, and county police via loudspeaker shouted, "Keep calm! Keep calm!"

"What are they saying about a monster?" Wang Mingxue asked.

"I guess it’s someone crazy from Black Medicine," Leng Kai replied.

"Did you bring a gun?" Wang Mingxue asked again.

"I brought it," Leng Kai nodded.

They went down to the parking garage, drove out, bypassed the blockaded districts, and took a detour towards the White House. Leng Kai called Commander Lu and turned on the speakerphone.

"Commander Lu, there’s a situation at the White House," Leng Kai said.

"I know, but the Governor has refused to let the council intervene. They’ve dispatched the Sethiyan Superpower Special Forces and the National Guard to assist," Commander Lu replied.

"Why?!" Wang Mingxue interjected at this moment.

Commander Lu heard her complaint and said, "There’s nothing we can do to interfere."

"Isn’t this our responsibility?" Wang Mingxue said.

"This is the Sethiyan Federation, not Chicken Snake Country," Commander Lu said.

"I understand," Leng Kai replied.

Then, he hung up the phone.

Wang Mingxue looked at him and asked, "What should we do?"

Leng Kai thought for a moment and said, "Let’s park."

Wang Mingxue slammed on the brakes, and the sports car made a two-meter-long tire mark, abruptly stopping in front of a bookstore.

"I thought you would say, ’Let’s go!’" Wang Mingxue said disappointedly.

"This is not a movie or novel, and you heard it—this is the Sethiyan Federation, not Chicken Snake Country. In Chicken Snake Country, you can shoot at will, and use missiles regardless of civilian safety, but it’s different here," Leng Kai said.

"But there really is a situation! That’s what our task force is for!" Wang Mingxue said.

"They’ve sent the National Guard! And the Superpower Special Forces! If there’s really a situation, they can easily handle it. We just brought two pistols out, going there would be suicidal. And, you need to understand, the Governor doesn’t want the council involved. This involves political issues; we can’t just intervene rashly," Leng Kai explained.

Wang Mingxue looked at him and shook her head gently.

"Do you understand?" Leng Kai asked.

"Get out of the car," Wang Mingxue said.

"Don’t be foolish—" Leng Kai started.

"Get out," Wang Mingxue repeated firmly.

Leng Kai sighed, got out, and slammed the car door forcefully.

Wang Mingxue rolled down her window and smiled at him, "I thought you were a tough guy. Turns out, you’re just a bureaucrat."

After she spoke, Wang Mingxue rolled up the window and sped away.

Leng Kai watched the taillights disappear around the corner. Above him, county police helicopters with searchlights flew by. He turned and walked back, cursing under his breath. After a few steps, he found a shared bike by the street and pedaled fiercely toward the White House.

Half an hour later, he finally arrived at the perimeter of the White House.

Several police cars and two black military transport vehicles from the Special Forces were parked on the street in front of the White House. Helicopters circled overhead, and the yard was illuminated.

Leng Kai dropped the shared bike, aiming to show his credentials to a county police officer to avoid being mistakenly shot, but no one was visible as he approached the main gate.

The large iron gate of the White House’s front yard was open, and the main door was not fully closed. After much deliberation, he pushed open the door and entered, but kept his pistol holstered.

In the Sethiyan Federation, if you’re holding a gun, county police will reflexively unload their magazines on you.

The armed helicopter and the county police helicopter’s spotlight focused on him.

Leng Kai waved his arms at them and took out his credentials.

From the helicopter’s cabin, a soldier appeared, signaling with a signal baton.

Leng Kai recognized the signal—it meant to proceed with the investigation.

At that moment, two gunshots came from inside the White House’s main door. Instinctively, Leng Kai drew his pistol and aimed in the direction of the door.

The gun sounds were familiar; they were the same model as his pistol. Wang Mingxue was inside.
