I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 411 - 409: Pursuit
Chapter 411: Chapter 409: Pursuit
Price tossed a laser locator to the ground and then called everyone to get in the vehicle.
"Wait a minute, use missiles?" Leng Kai was startled.
Price said, "Fighter jets will take off from the neighboring country, and in 5 minutes, nothing here will remain."
"The missiles are too powerful, there are civilians around!" Leng Kai protested.
Price grabbed his collar and said, "A little sacrifice can save many more!"
Gates urged from the side, "We’ve got more and more friends showing up!"
Leng Kai and Wang Mingxue were covered and transferred to the back of the vehicle, sitting in the truck bed.
Once everyone was onboard, he patted the body of the vehicle; Soap rotated his PKM machine gun mount, mowing down another swath of people as the vehicle started and burst through the gate.
The streets were in chaos. Many government soldiers were shooting at them. Leng Kai saw the guide’s body tossed aside the vehicle and cursed under his breath.
A mud wall suddenly rose on the road ahead. Gates quickly turned the steering wheel to the left, narrowly avoiding the blockade. At that moment, a military truck charged at them from another street.
Eight burly men were in the truck bed, clinging to the guardrails and smiling at Leng Kai.
"What are they going to do?" Leng Kai asked.
"Shoot them!" Price shouted.
Soap turned his PKM towards the truck’s cab; large-caliber bullets shattered the glass, and the tires flew out.
At the same time, those men jumped towards them.
"Oh! Damn it!" Ghost yelled.
The men leapt high into the air. Leng Kai and Wang Mingxue fired at them, but the bullets were ineffective. They could only knock them down with kinetic energy.
The men hit the ground and started running fast, pulling out handguns and shooting at Leng Kai and the others.
"Superpowers!" Leng Kai yelled.
"Shoot them!" Price also turned and fired at these men.
Soap’s PKM could knock them down but not kill them. The men seemed to have bodies of steel, completely impervious to bullets.
Wang Mingxue took a grenade from behind Ghost and pulled the pin.
Leng Kai watched, hoping it would work.
Wang Mingxue silently counted to four and threw the grenade; it landed on the ground and quickly rolled backward, then exploded, kicking up black soil beneath their feet.
Three men were blown into the air, rolling away and left far behind by the vehicle.
Ghost also took out two grenades and handed one to Leng Kai.
They pulled the pins, silently counted to four, and then threw them.
Two loud explosions sent the remaining men tumbling to the ground. By the time they got up, the vehicle had already driven far away.
At that moment, a fighter jet flew overhead, and ten seconds later, a loud explosion was heard, and a dense plume of smoke rose in the direction of the town.
They drove away from the city and stopped by a muddy road for repairs.
Soap replaced the barrel and ammunition bag on the PKM. Ghost was in contact with the rear, and Price stood beside the vehicle, lighting a cigar for himself.
"Is the mission complete?" Leng Kai asked.
Price nodded and exhaled a large cloud of smoke.
"I didn’t expect Black Medicine could already be produced by civilians now," Leng Kai said.
"It used to be strictly controlled, superpower soldiers were pretty much equivalent to nuclear deterrence, but now," Price said, taking a drag from his cigar.
"Those people were practically bulletproof!" Wang Mingxue was excited.
"You did good improvising back there," Ghost said, extending his fist toward her.
Wang Mingxue also extended her fist and bumped it against his.
"This isn’t only happening in Chicken Snake Country. Have you heard of Wei Tianyang?" Price asked.
"I know very little about him," Leng Kai replied.
"He saved you a few years ago," Price said.
"He did?! If I get the chance, I’ll thank him in person," Leng Kai was surprised.
"That’s unlikely," Price shook his head.
"Where is he now?" Leng Kai asked.
"He’s gone, if I were you, I wouldn’t actively search for him," Price said.
Wang Mingxue was a bit curious and asked, "What happened to him?"
"In 2106, the tragedy in Wuliang City, Chicken Snake Country, was caused by him. He doesn’t have a good reputation; the United Council used him but has also lost control over him," Price shook his head.
"He sounds like a dangerous character," Leng Kai said.
"He’s a disaster, Kai. I have a feeling that we are probably going to clash with him before long," Price said.
Wang Mingxue was stunned and silent; she looked at Leng Kai.
"I’ve spoken to him a few times, Kai. His mental state might be a bit off. If you’re lucky enough to meet him, you’d better stay away from him," Price said.
"He saved me; I have to say thank you," Leng Kai said.
"Listen," Price took a puff of his cigar and continued, "He doesn’t need your thanks; I’m afraid that after all these years, he’s probably forgotten about you. I trust my sharp instincts; he’s not a good person. It would be better if he were dead; otherwise, we’re the ones who will be unlucky."
"I’ll be cautious," Leng Kai said.
They all got back into the car.
Ghost got in touch with the United Council’s operations command center and started marking the evacuation points on the map.
"It’s time to go," Soap said.
The car slowly started and got back on the muddy road.
Several weeks later.
Leng Kai returned to United Council Headquarters, Price’s assessment of Wei Tianyang piqued his curiosity.
He went to the electronic archives to begin looking up information on his former colleague.
Wei Tianyang was 16 in 2106; now he was 35.
He typed Wei Tianyang’s name into the member database and found that his clearance only allowed him to see a small portion that was declassified.
"The Prussia mission?" Leng Kai scanned through.
This was the only mission record he could access, and it was the abridged version.
"Exceptional Service Medal..." Leng Kai continued to look.
The missions he was involved in were listed by year.
There was only one.
There were no records for 2106.
Leng Kai sighed deeply and gave up.
His clearance wasn’t enough to see Wei Tianyang’s information.
But on the other hand, the fact his information was highly classified certainly wasn’t without reason.
"Hey!"
Someone tapped him on the shoulder from behind, and Leng Kai turned to see Wang Mingxue.
"What are you doing?" Wang Mingxue smiled and asked.
She was wearing a black short sleeve and jeans, her hair tied back in a ponytail.
"I wanted to look into Wei Tianyang’s matter," he said.
"I’ve checked too, his classified level might be the highest in the council," Wang Mingxue said.
Leng Kai sighed and said, "He must be very powerful."
"More than powerful. I heard Ghost say he indirectly killed millions but also saved millions," Wang Mingxue said.
"They ought to be able to see more intelligence," Leng Kai said.
"Do you need to ask? They are the elders," Wang Mingxue said.
Leng Kai stood up; since he couldn’t access more information, there was no point in staying.
Wang Mingxue suddenly stopped him, smiling, "Wait!"
Leng Kai paused.
"Let’s go watch a movie together tonight," Wang Mingxue said with a blushing face.
