I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 311 - 309: Become Our God
Chapter 311: Chapter 309: Become Our God
Libitelli.
Fasid City, Bruno Avenue Subway Station.
The man appeared somewhat disheveled, with black hair matted together and dust on his face, the large nose under his sunglasses slightly red, beard seeming long overdue for a trim.
It was nearing summer, the climate was pleasant, but he was wrapped in a thick black overcoat, standing at the entrance of the subway passageway looking down, his expression solemn as if he were making a final decision.
Across the street, two marshals passed by, he glanced at them and under his breath muttered, "Damn it," then walked down the stairs.
Inside the subway tunnel, it was crowded and abnormally stuffy; even the central air conditioning seemed ineffective. The man squeezed through the crowd toward the ticket inspection, but when he approached the metal detector’s archway, he stepped aside and stood by.
He looked at his watch, 10:22 a.m.
As if he were waiting for something, the man kept glancing at his watch, occasionally peering towards the platform corridor.
After two minutes, the sound of the subway arriving resonated through the passageway; the doors clicked open automatically, and a soft female voice from the announcer began reciting the station names.
The man’s gaze was fixed on the seconds ticking by.
12, 13, 14...
Time was up!
He suddenly leaped over from the archway gap, then ran like mad toward the platform entrance.
"What is that guy doing?!" exclaimed the subway staff, clutching a radio and chasing after him.
The man pulled out a phone from his overcoat pocket and activated the camera.
Then, in the last instant before the subway doors closed, he sidled in.
The subway doors slammed shut, leaving the staff who had just reached the platform on the outside.
He, on the other hand, gestured a middle finger at them through the window.
"What’s he up to? Is he dodging the fare?"
The man headed toward the middle of the car, while the passengers he’d rushed past chatted animatedly about what they had just witnessed.
He didn’t care.
He just held up his phone, the camera pointed at himself.
As the subway entered a tunnel, some passengers sat playing on their mobile PCs, others read on their tablets, and some stood chatting by the doors.
The man got to the center of the car and suddenly shouted to everyone, "Hey! Friends, look over here! Listen to me!"
The passengers were puzzled, but a lady sitting next to him took the bait, "What do you want to say?"
"Listen to me, all of you. You know, right? Decades ago, stars began falling from the sky one by one and then, among us, appeared the hybrid people," the man said.
The passengers laughed, a young man joking, "Are you talking about the Superpower Special Department?"
"They are not human! Their DNA and lineage have been desecrated!" the man said.
"Oh, come on, they’re just super soldiers created by high technology," another passenger retorted.
"That’s exactly what I’m most worried about. The forbidden power came with the stars from above, and those politicians have been corrupted! They’re letting humankind lose its pure lineage!"
"The falling stars are demons! They use the blood of demons to build their armies, as if the world isn’t chaotic enough!"
"Those hybrid people are just tools they use to control the world, but the purity of the human species has been tainted. We are slowly turning into demons!"
The man opened his arms and, with exaggerated expressions, spoke loudly.
"Oh, please! Their superpowers aren’t permanent; the government’s done thorough public education on it. Retired members of the Superpower Special Department undergo removal treatment; they’re no different from regular people. Is this guy insane?" a passenger commented.
"Do you remember Lusimin City? How did they deceive the public then? Now would you believe their statements about hybrid people?" the man argued back.
The passengers were at a loss for words.
"They will really lose their superpowers, won’t they? Will their children inherit their superpowers? The government won’t tell the truth! Think about it, in another decade or two, might our society be plagued by superpower privileges?"
"Our bloodline will be diluted, replaced, the descendants of demons will gradually take our place! This is the demon’s conspiracy! The government has already been controlled by demons... We must take action!"
The man’s face contorted viciously, his voice hoarse, as he reached his right hand into his coat pocket and pulled out a device the size of a lighter.
"We must send a dire signal, to tell people around the world, that we would rather die than let demons taint our bloodline! We will declare war on demons with a magnificent death!"
The man cried out as he held the tiny device high.
All of the passengers who looked at him realized what was happening, but it was already too late.
In the next instant, the man turned into a fireball, then a dazzling white light exploded in the carriage, a violent shockwave, the acrid smell of gunpowder, and the ear-shattering sound of the explosion all came rushing together, causing the entire carriage to bounce and hit the tunnel roof before slipping off the rails and squeezing between the carriages.
Suddenly, chaos erupted in the subway, the carriages stacking up like dominoes, crashing into each other, then crumpling and wedging into the gaps, with flames and blood mixing and burning together, and a large chunk of the tunnel’s inner wall also falling off.
...
"Do you know about MSF?"
Wei Tianyang said.
"...A group of deceived soldiers, taking on responsibilities that should be borne by the state..."
Leona felt a bit guilty; she continued, "As long as the arms race doesn’t stop, such things will never disappear."
Wei Tianyang smiled and said, "I know, in your words, it’s called a necessary cost."
"But I think you can change all that, your power can balance this competition, make them give up," Leona said.
"Do you want me to become, a deterrence?" Wei Tianyang said.
Leona’s expression was serious as she replied, "Yes, you are the perfect candidate."
"What is your ultimate goal?" Wei Tianyang asked again.
"I want to...end the world order constructed by the five major countries of the United Council," Leona said solemnly.
Wei Tianyang leaned back into the couch, squinting his eyes at Leona.
She indeed felt that way, but her motivations were not simple.
This was definitely not about "creating a better world."
"Your wish is very strong, President Leona. I can see that, it’s certainly your political ambition," Wei Tianyang said.
"Indeed it is," Leona did not conceal.
"But, why?" Wei Tianyang said.
"All the nations in the world, must follow the directives of these five countries, don’t you think that’s unfair?" Leona asked.
"But, power is the reason kings are made. You want to break the order they’ve constructed, you need to have a power stronger than theirs, and after that, you’re just replacing them," Wei Tianyang shook his head.
"I don’t want to, nor do I have the power to replace them," Leona shook her head.
"So, you’ve found me, right? But why do you think I would agree to help you? Even if I had the power, why should I do it for you?" Wei Tianyang said.
"Not for me, for all humanity, for a future worth looking forward to," Leona said.
"That sounds too vague," Wei Tianyang said.
"What about your speech, then? Was that talk your true feelings, or just a show?" Leona asked.
Wei Tianyang looked calmly at her, paused for two seconds, then finally said, "I truly believe that."
"That’s why I sought you out, that’s why I chose to trust you. To become a global deterrence, to become our overseer..." Leona said.
"What do you mean?" Wei Tianyang was taken aback.
"Become our god! Only then can this rotten world, trapped in political turmoil, be saved!" Leona concluded, and with that, she knelt before him.
