Chapter 297: Chapter 295: The Fate of the Confidential Secretary
Dawn was breaking when the airplane touched down at Fengrao International Airport.
Zhao Ling directly sent people to pick up Wei Tianyang in a sedan and took him to the military flight training ground on the outskirts of the city. After that, several members of the Inner Guard accompanied them as they boarded a private plane and left Fengrao City.
At first, Wei Tianyang didn’t understand why the person accompanying him this time wasn’t Li Ruyun, but rather a man of similar age to himself.
It wasn’t until he boarded the plane that the man slightly bowed and said, "I am the Emperor’s confidential secretary. The Emperor had arranged a new living quarter for you during the time you were asleep. It’s far from the hustle and bustle of the city, with few disturbances and not many people in the know. It’s a suitable place for cultivating one’s mind and character."
"Yaha... Where is Yaha...?" Wei Tianyang was startled.
"She had already been taken there," said the man with a smile.
Wei Tianyang didn’t mention Li Ruyun. Now that Zhao Ling had him, she also possessed the confidence to turn directly against the Lingxian Sect, and naturally, Li Ruyun would be the first to be eliminated.
Seeing Wei Tianyang deep in thought, the confidential secretary hastily added, "You shouldn’t feel inconvenienced by being far from the city. Whatever you want to buy or do, just give an order, and we will handle it within 12 hours."
"It’s not a problem, Zhao Ling didn’t mention this to me before, so it’s a bit sudden today," Wei Tianyang said.
"The Emperor didn’t intentionally omit it, she’s really too busy. She had mentioned it to her subordinates, instructing them to inform you in advance about the change of living quarters. It was my oversight for not notifying you earlier. I will make sure to take good care of you from now on," the confidential secretary bowed.
Damn, this kid was too slick for his own good, leaving no room for argument.
Wei Tianyang waved his hand dismissively, and the man retreated out of the VIP cabin.
Over an hour later, the small passenger plane descended slowly, with a beautiful landscape of mountains and waters outside the portholes.
Below the green mountains, there was a vast courtyard built with a scenic setting, and in the center stood a three-story red building that resembled an ancient Emperor’s summer retreat.
The plane stopped on a private runway beside a long river outside the courtyard, and Wei Tianyang followed them as they drove into the compound.
Looking through the car window at the red pavilion, he saw Zhao Ling standing far away on the third-floor balcony.
After getting out of the car, as soon as Wei Tianyang crossed the threshold, Zhao Ling came out to greet him. She was dressed in a red cheongsam that revealed her long legs, with her long hair draped over her shoulders and her face made up delicately, turning to reveal an open back.
"You’ve changed secretaries?" Wei Tianyang asked.
At this moment, the confidential secretary, along with others, left in a timely manner, and the area outside became quiet. On the green stone path leading into the woods, several small birds alighted.
"You knew I’d deal with Li Ruyun. It was only a matter of time," Zhao Ling said.
"Is she dead?" asked Wei Tianyang.
"No," Zhao Ling shook her head, then smiled.
After speaking, she gestured for Wei Tianyang to follow, and the three of them went to the square corridor in the backyard of the pavilion. They circled around the rockery and through another long branch corridor that led to a separate mansion outside the courtyard.
This place was a small courtyard on its own, with a square concrete house right in the middle.
From afar, Wei Tianyang could smell an indescribable odor—a mixture of blood, fat, waste matter, and various chemicals producing an unbearable stench.
Two members of the Inner Guard stood outside the small concrete house. Zhao Ling gave a nod, and they opened the iron door, then led the way.
The concrete house seemed small, but it was merely a staircase landing. Inside was a descending stairway leading straight down as if into Hell. The further they went, the more pungent the smell became.
Wei Tianyang had guessed what had become of Li Ruyun, but still, he was somewhat shaken when he actually saw.
At the bottom of the stairs, six meters underground, the Inner Guard opened the innermost iron door, and faint crying noises could be heard.
With his night vision ability, Wei Tianyang saw a dark room with a small stone platform. On the platform, a woman whose limbs had been amputated sat.
The Inner Guard turned on the light, making everything in front of them clearer. After the sudden brightness, everyone felt a bit uncomfortable and shielded their eyes.
Li Ruyun had a soft tube inserted into her stomach, fixed in place with bandages and tape.
Wei Tianyang followed the tube with his eyes to the right side of the room and saw it connected to a machine.
Li Ruyun was sobbing; suddenly, she lifted her head, her black, hollow eyes looking at Wei Tianyang—the pupils gone.
"Just kill her," Wei Tianyang said.
"I wouldn’t let her die so easily," Zhao Ling said, clenching her teeth. "I had someone cut out her tongue, gouge out her eyes, and pierce her eardrums. Now she can only feel the world through the touch of her skin."
"Not only that, but I’ve also amputated her limbs, punched a hole in her stomach, and every day I force leftover food down it—that’s how I’m keeping her alive."
"She thought she could disregard me because she had the protection of the Lingxian Sect. I’ll show her who really is the Emperor."
Zhao Ling spoke coldly.
Wei Tianyang saw that Li Ruyun’s amputated arms were still hooked up to IV tubes—she was being kept alive by constant infusions, truly living in hell now.
[Someone kill me... I’m in so much pain, I don’t want to live anymore...]
[Whimpering... Zhao Ling, come finish me off... please...]
Wei Tianyang heard Li Ruyun’s thoughts and knew that no matter what schemes she had before, now that she had fallen to such a state, no one would harbor any more desires.
"Kill her," Wei Tianyang said.
Zhao Ling turned to look at Wei Tianyang and smiled, "I thought you would like it."
Wei Tianyang sighed.
He had killed many people but had never tortured anyone. Killing was a means, not an end. But if one became obsessed with torture and abuse, then their heart was certainly filled with evil.
"Before that, let’s see what she knows," Zhao Ling suggested.
Wei Tianyang stepped forward, reaching out to touch Li Ruyun’s body, exploring within the woman’s centuries of memories.
She was, astoundingly, Zhao Ling’s kinswoman.
They didn’t share a mother, but they had the same father.
In the pursuit of power, Zhao Ling resorted to extreme measures, while Li Ruyun chose to endure in silence.
They had never known familial affection, only rivalry.
However, even as an agent sent by the Lingxian Sect to monitor Zhao Ling, who was given the Black Dragon’s Black Medicine, she still failed to reach the Lingxian Sect’s space station.
This woman’s status was no match for Chen Ran’s; she held no useful value.
She was merely Zhao Ling’s shadow.
"Did you see anything?" Zhao Ling asked.
Wei Tianyang shook his head. Then, with two fingers turning into a Bone Knife, he swiftly pierced through Li Ruyun’s throat.
"You’re too merciful to your enemies. Killing them is just a release. You should learn to keep some alive, to torture them, and to make an example for the other enemies," Zhao Ling said.
Wei Tianyang flicked the blood off his fingers. Li Ruyun bowed her head, struggling for a moment, then died of asphyxiation.
He said, "I didn’t think too much about it; I just found the smell too pungent."
