Chapter 296: Chapter 294: Pest Control

He examined it closely in front of his eyes; it was some kind of bone conduction device, similar to a wireless earpiece, but thinner and more covert, implanted under the skin, powered by bioelectricity, hardly noticeable to the average person.

From the beginning, the device, together with the thoughts of the person in the car, had been making a racket in Wei Tianyang’s ear, speaking in the earpiece while Steijie repeated every word.

Wei Tianyang turned around, opened the door, and gazed at the SUV. The bodyguard standing by the door seemed to sense something and made eye contact with him but dared not make any superfluous movements.

He returned to objective reality and approached the SUV, peering inside through the window, where two black shadows sat in the backseat, holding what appeared to be a laptop, judging by the position of their hands.

Was this the Shadow Government Steijie felt he could not mention? They even dared to implant surveillance devices in the governing official, controlling speech through voice?

Wei Tianyang left objective reality but also circled to the other side of the car. The bodyguard felt as if Wei Tianyang had vanished into thin air at the doorway, in utter disarray, subconsciously pulling out the submachine gun under his hem and pulling open the car door, cautioning the rear seats.

But in the next second, four Bone Knives pierced the bulletproof glass, skewering the heads of the bodyguard and the woman in the backseat like candied hawthorns, their expressions frozen in a moment of shock and fear, as blood spread in the whites of their eyes, the woman’s blood spraying onto the right cheek of the man holding the laptop.

The man was startled and began to scream. He was quite young, in his twenties, yet capable of controlling a country’s leader from within the vehicle—undoubtedly from an exalted family background.

Wei Tianyang grabbed the doorframe with his right hand, ripped the car door off, and threw it onto the grass nearby, then pulled the man out by his collar.

He dragged the man into the villa like he was carrying a chicken, tossing him in front of Steijie.

"It seems you’re not in control of yourself either," said Wei Tianyang.

Steijie’s ears were still bleeding as he cursed, supporting himself on the sofa, "I should have known they’d do this! A bunch of sons of bitches!"

The man pulled out a pistol from his bosom, not aiming at Wei Tianyang but at himself.

With his status, he definitely knew all the information about Wei Tianyang, without any intention of resistance.

But Wei Tianyang wouldn’t give him the chance to commit suicide.

His left hand turned to steel, clutching the gun barrel, the gunshot sounded, and the bullet remained in his palm.

With force, Wei Tianyang yanked down the slide, then seized the man, staring him down.

Sitting on the sofa, applying pressure with a tissue to stop his bleed, Steijie muttered to himself upon witnessing Wei Tianyang’s superpower, "So... it has really been absorbed..."

Wei Tianyang delved into the man’s memory, wantonly searching everything he knew.

The man’s name was Shaven, Steijie’s press officer, the one who represented the White House at press conferences, speaking at the podium.

He also had another identity, a member of the Human Dawn Organization.

His family had deep roots in the political landscape of the Sethiyan Federation for decades, having experienced the Second World War and tracing even back to before WWI, their network of relations with other political families firmly entrenched and unshakable.

This was why he managed to become the press officer of the White House at such a young age.

They were not the founders of the Human Dawn Organization, nor could they even be considered core members, as besides political resources, Shaven’s family had shown no other value.

Their investments spanned various industries, leveraging power to amend and pass many bills favorable to the corporations they controlled, also affording some convenience to the Human Dawn.

Yet even then, they were not quite the sort of people the Human Dawn respected.

Four months ago, Steijie was forced to have the tiny surveillance device implanted, and they began controlling the official’s speeches.

Moreover, they held his family hostage, not via kidnapping, but by using the existing security measures of the official, with high-ranking officials in the Bureau of Safety all under the Human Dawn’s control; he and his family were watched closely by heavily armed special police, a country’s governing official utterly undermined.

In Shaven’s memories, he saw the director of the Bureau of Safety, several in charge of executing the official’s security measures; he memorized their faces.

During the Libitelli incident, although Steijie suggested deploying the Trinity, he did not issue the order to attack Wei Tianyang; those four acted on Human Dawn’s command, launching the attack independently.

Wei Tianyang followed the memories, trying to find the person behind Shaven’s orders, to figure out where the Human Dawn’s den was.

Unfortunately, Shaven was merely a mouthpiece, a megaphone. All his orders came from a satellite phone on an encrypted frequency.

Wei Tianyang dropped Shaven on the floor, saying, "This kid knows nothing."

Steijie shook his head, "If you touch him, it’s akin to declaring war with them."

"Relax, Steijie," Wei Tianyang smiled, his left foot pressing against Shaven’s face, the force directly caving in his cheekbone, a crunching sound, blood mixed with brain matter squeezed out of the skull, pooling on the ground like a broken egg.

Shaven’s limbs trembled before subsiding to stillness.

The floor was covered in a sticky mix of red and white fluid; Steijie couldn’t bear to look and turned away, while Wei Tianyang stepped over Shaven’s corpse, moving to the other side of the sofa.

"The organization you’ve been trying to mention, I’ve known about it for a while. They’re called Human Dawn," said Wei Tianyang.

"I couldn’t say outright, after all, I am not like you," Steijie sighed.

"Your entanglements are understandable, politics, power, family... all chains binding you," said Wei Tianyang.

"Unless we completely eradicate them, we won’t be safe. This country won’t be safe either," Steijie said.

"I don’t have much time, but I can still help you with this. I’ve already made a move, and they must know it’s me who took action. You didn’t call for help or show any signs; they probably won’t touch you for now," said Wei Tianyang.

Gratitude was evident on Steijie’s face; all he could do was nod and give a small smile.

"You head back first... do what you must," said Wei Tianyang.

Steijie nodded and left Wei Tianyang’s villa.

The corpse on the ground was too disgusting; Wei Tianyang didn’t even bother to glance at it again. He escaped into objective reality and also left the place.

At 7:30 in the evening.

Wei Tianyang boarded a plane on time bound for Yin Country.

And thirteen minutes earlier, the director of the Sethiyan Federation’s Bureau of Safety had died unexpectedly in a fall from a building, his close associates found bizarrely dismembered in their offices, homes, golf courses, bowling alleys, and VIP rooms of nightclubs.

Steijie ordered the news be locked down, attributing their deaths to suicide.
