Chapter 719: Chapter 719: A Word Becomes a Prophecy (Monthly Ticket 50+ Update)

Leaving Luoluo with the excited Third Aunt, Suizi left her Aunt’s house.

This was Luoluo’s first lesson. The little girl, unaware of the specifics, was coaxed by Suizi to learn music.

Her Third Aunt had travelled all the way from Dongbei to Beijing, accompanying her cousin, Jiaojiao. Now with an additional little character, Luoluo, Suizi felt that her Aunt was a blessing to her children.

Although she had allowed her Third and Fourth Aunts to buy shares in their family’s paper mill a couple of years ago, Suizi knew that these Aunts were not motivated by money. So in daily life, Suizi treated the two elderly relatives as her own grandmothers and was very respectful to them.

While the children were studying, Suizi went to the Vegetable Market, planning to choose some fresh vegetables. Every week, when she accompanied Jiaojiao to piano practice, she would pre-process the week’s vegetables, seal them in a preservation box, and put them in the refrigerator. Whenever her Third Aunt wanted to eat, she simply had to fry them.

This gesture touched both the Aunts’ families. They were moved by Suizi’s sincerity in nurturing her children and their respect for knowledge, even though her current net worth negated any need for her to do so.

She purchased a heap of vegetables, walking out of the market with slightly too much because she planned to also deliver a portion to her Fourth Aunt.

Not far from the market, she met a pregnant woman who seemed to be in great pain.

"Do you need help?" Hesitating for a moment, Suizi approached and asked.

"My stomach suddenly hurts, could you take me home? My house is just ahead..." The pregnant woman clutched her stomach, seeming very uncomfortable.

"I see..." Suizi was about to agree when something flashed across her mind.

"Wait here," Suizi turned around and headed back to the market, leaving the pregnant woman standing there clueless.

Less than a minute later, Suizi returned, leading a rickshaw along.

"Master, could you take her home? I’ll pay. If she starts feeling really unwell, please take her directly to the maternity hospital," Suizi took out some money.

"Aren’t you coming with us?" The pregnant woman seemed anxious when Suizi didn’t offer to accompany her. In response to Suizi’s questioning look, she hurriedly explained, "I don’t feel safe going with a strange man. It’s too dangerous."

Hearing this, the rickshaw puller refused to cooperate.

"I’ve been working here for nearly a year, and all the nearby shopkeepers know me. This young lady recognizes me too," The driver pointed to Suizi.

Suizi nodded. She did frequently see this driver waiting for people around and she had just asked the market stall owners about him, confirming that there shouldn’t be any problems.

"But..."

The pregnant woman wanted to say something more, but Suizi waved her hand dismissively.

"No need to thank me. It’s natural for women to help each other. You don’t need to pay me back, meeting you was fate," Suizi said, picking up her goods and walking away.

After walking a distance, Suizi looked back. The pregnant woman was still standing there, clutching her stomach and watching her walk away.

A wave of sympathy washed over her, but she couldn’t shake off an uneasy feeling.

If her stomach was really hurting, she should have taken the rickshaw home. Why was the pregnant woman still not on the rickshaw, even though Suizi had gone so far?

Shaking her head, Suizi told herself she didn’t want to think the worst of people, but being cautious was necessary.

When Jiaojiao and Luoluo finished their classes and Yu Jingting came to pick them up, Suizi told Jiaojiao about the incident on their way home.

"Jiaojiao, if it were you, would you have taken her home?" Suizi planned to use this incident as a teaching moment.

"Hmm... I think I might have done the same as you, giving her money to hire the rickshaw," Jiaojiao thought for a moment. "If she was really in trouble, the most I’d loose is some money but I could really help someone. But if it was a scam, then a little loss of wealth would save me from disaster."

"Good job, your sister-in-law has taught you well," Yu Jingting was satisfied. Jiaojiao was growing into a young lady, almost as tall as Suizi, and sitting in the last row of their class.

Ever since she was in elementary school, Suizi had been instilling safety education into Jiaojiao. Now in junior high school, her awareness of self-protection was stronger than most of her peers.

When Tian Kindergarten let out for the day, Suizi was at home minding the kids, playing with them at the entrance to the alley. Liu Xi brought her child over to play with Little Luobo.

Liu Xi’s child was a bit younger than Little Luobo, but loved playing with him. Little Luobo was also very caring towards her, and the three of them ran around happily.

"By the way, be careful when you go out these days," Liu Xi said.

"What’s the matter?" Suizi asked.

"There’s a female college student from our school who has been missing for a month. Everyone thought she had eloped with a boy, but just yesterday they found her body. She had been abused and strangled. My brother works in the police department and their superiors are taking this very seriously. Investigations are underway."

"Oh, that’s so unfortunate," Suizi felt distressed. It was hard to raise a college student in these times. She imagined the family that had strained to send her to school, only to meet such a tragedy.

"Actually, this is not the first time something like this has happened. There was a similar case two months ago, but it wasn’t our school. Do you know why I told you to be careful?"

Speaking in a lower voice, Liu Xi said, "I looked at a photo of the victim that my brother brought back. There was a common feature - they all had lip piercings like you."

"Aren’t you face-blind?"

"Because I have trouble recognizing people, I observe facial features. Girls with lip piercings are quite rare."

Suizi initially wanted to say that she was overthinking things. But somehow, she suddenly thought of the pregnant woman she had met at the entrance of the market the day before.

"Let me tell you something."

Suizi recounted the incident of meeting the pregnant woman, leaving Liu Xi perplexed.

"The victims were all assaulted. You came across a pregnant woman, shouldn’t there be no problem?"

"But what if it was a conspiracy? "

Liu Xi shook her head.

"We’re all women, who would be so disgusting as to help men harm their own kind?"

"I hope I’m overthinking."

Suizi decided the next time she brought the children to visit her Third Aunt, she would ask about the rickshaw driver. As long as she could confirm that he had actually taken the pregnant woman home, her doubts would be allayed.

"Suizi, have you been overusing your brain lately? Why would you make a simple matter so complicated?" Liu Xi curiously touched Suizi’s head. "Sometimes, I really want to see what’s going on inside your brain. How do you have so many strategies at such a young age?"

Liu Xi also held shares in the roller skating rink. Suizi and her husband had managed to quietly slip a few of their own relatives into the business. Liu Xi even had a small share in the paper mill, and with that bit of money, she was living quite comfortably raising her child.

Especially when she thought of her nominal husband thousands of miles away, pondering life in front of a snow mountain with monks, she felt even more fortunate. All thanks to the contrast provided by her enemies.

"It’s a thinking pattern, I’m used to it. After dealing with so many problems, some judgements have become instinctive reactions. It’s not as tiring as you might think. On the contrary, if one day I switched back to normal thinking, I might not be able to adapt."

Little did Suizi know, her playful comment was about to become an ominous prophecy.
