I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 718: There is an Unexpected Gain

Chapter 718: Chapter 718: There is an Unexpected Gain

With sweet music playing, Yu Jingting started making his moves in the roller rink with Suizi in his arms.

Whistles and screams echoed throughout the rink. Suizi’s face was so flushed that it seemed like it might catch fire. The publicity effect was stellar, marking a legend in their roller-skating rink that would be remembered forever. This method certainly saved them some bucks and it worked wonders.

The only downside was it felt a little embarrassing.

But when Suizi caught sight of all the envious girls she’d seen earlier making goo-goo eyes at Yu Jingting, she felt that the embarrassment was something she could overcome.

"If you want to laugh, then laugh. Why are you trying to hide it?" Yu Jingting asked, balancing a spin without forgetting to watch his wife. Upon seeing her blushing and trying to hide her face in his embrace to muffle her giggles, he teased further.

"I’m not laughing," Suizi denied, but her lips were twitching, clearly trying to suppress a smile.

Okay, she admitted defeat.

She was genuinely happy to have a man like him by her side.

"Ah, the young people today are so sweet. Seeing them makes me want to bring my wife here to skate, too. Pity, I’m not good at it." The driver remarked, his face beaming with admiration from the sidelines.

Chen Lijun’s expression changed from surprise to worry, fearing that Yu Jingting might loosen his grip and drop Suizi, turning her into a roasted sweet potato.

But as she watched Yu Jingting glide effortlessly and Suizi’s contented laughter, her worries turned into relief.

"Ah, youth is indeed wonderful."

...

In the evening, Suizi sat cross-legged on the bed, her account book spread out on her lap, her lips curling up into a smile as she calculated their earnings.

"We’ve recouped our initial investment within the first week of operation and even made a considerable profit. The income from the ballroom in the evening is almost as much as from the roller rink. This is what they call ’reform brings prosperity’, ’prosperity is everywhere.’"

In her happiness, she began to sing.

"Thank god for the policy of reform and opening-up, thank god for liberal thought. This is a golden era, where making money is fast and simple."

"Money-grubber, huh. Hehe," Yu Jingting jested as he watched their twins splashing in the water basin. He encircled Suizi, who was engrossed in the accounts, and began teaching the kids, "Look at this money-lover. See? This is what a true money-lover looks like."

"Our mom is the money-lover!" the twins chimed together.

Before Suizi could defend herself, the sound of irritated piano playing spilled out from the piano room.

It sounded like all ten fingers were hammering the same note on the keyboard.

"What got into little sis this time?" The noise was so intense it hurt Yu Jingting’s ears.

"She’s preparing for a national competition. Auntie has given her a very challenging piece, and she’s been struggling with it." Suizi put the account book aside and walked off toward the piano room, planning on giving Jiaojiao some words of encouragement.

When Suizi went over, the chaotic piano sound ceased. It seemed her sister was encouraged and continued her practice but a few minutes later, she once again floundered.

Luoluo was merrily kicking her chubby, white feet in the basin of water, humming along to the sound of the piano.

Yu Jingting leaned close to her, and was surprised to hear she was singing the score herself.

"fa~la~mi~xi~"

Even though he was used to playing the Suona, Yu Jingting hadn’t expected his daughter to be that good. Despite the breaks in Jiaojiao’s playing, Luoluo picked up the tune flawlessly, even with her eyes closed.

"Huh? How do you know this?" He exclaimed.

His daughter was only four. No one had ever taught her this.

"I just listened and picked it up," Luoluo said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

"You mean you memorized Jiaojiao’s score?"

"Um, something like that," replied the small girl modestly.

Returning after talking to Jiaojiao, Suizi saw Yu Jingting holding a music score, instructing their little girl who was imitating him.

"Huh?!" Suizi was startled. She called over Jiaojiao who, after listening, felt defeated.

"She’s mostly correct, and the rhythm is spot-on. How can she possibly understand beats?!"

It had taken her a long time to master sight-singing, and she still had to repeat particularly difficult scores several times to get them right. Her teacher had even praised her as talented, yet here was Luoluo, who had seemingly taught herself!

"Hey, I want a piggyback ride!" Completely oblivious to the shock her little performance had brought, Luoluo, stretching out her small arms for a game with her dad.

"Piggyback ride? No, we’re going to the piano room," Suizi said, suddenly realizing that she might have given birth to a musical genius. She whisked Luoluo off the bed, without even bothering to dry her feet, and plonked her on the piano stool. The stool was too high for her short legs, so Suizi propped her up on a footstool.

"Can you find the Middle C?" asked Jiaojiao.

Thinking it was all part of a game, Luoluo pressed her small hand down on the correct key.

They had only asked her to find the Middle C, but once there, she managed to stumble through a child’s song, ’Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.’

This simple melody was far too easy for Jiaojiao, but Luoluo had remembered the tune and figured it out by herself after hearing her teacher play it in kindergarten.

"She’s a prodigy! You should take her to my teacher. I bet Luoluo will progress faster than I did," Jiaojiao suggested to Suizi sincerely.

Suizi was taken aback.

First, it was her son who had an amazing ability to memorize things, and now her daughter showed music talents. The whole thing was quite unexpected.

"I can hardly recognize all the notes on a music staff, my daughter couldn’t possibly..."

Was this some sort of mean reversion?

Perhaps the heavens were compensating for Suizi’s lack of musical talent, by bestowing her child with extraordinary musical abilities?

"Why not? I think our girl has inherited my talents. After all, with just one Suona, I could play from the moment I open my eyes till the moment I sleep. My sweet girl, how about starting to learn the Suona with daddy tomorrow?"

The overly proud father was trying to take credit, but was promptly kicked out of the piano room by Suizi and Jiaojiao.

"You can enjoy your Suona by yourself. I don’t want Luoluo to learn how to play it. Tomorrow, I’ll take her to Auntie for an assessment..."

The more Suizi thought about it, the more she felt having children was like opening blind boxes. You never know what kind of abilities they might inherit.

In the next room, after finishing up his foot bath, Bobo hummed to himself, too. He was also capable of what his big sister could do.

But he remembered something he had read...

"Tall trees attract the wind... see, she’s attracting attention now," Bobo muttered to himself, shaking his feet dry, and got back to his book.

Unaware of what was about to transpire, Luoluo found herself taken to Auntie’s place the next day for an assessment.

After a brief evaluation, Auntie was exuberant and rubbing her hands excitedly.

"This child is certainly a musical prodigy. From now on, she should come here with Jiaojiao every week for lessons. Oh, and bring her brother along next time, we can give him a try, too."

"We tried with him yesterday. He said he doesn’t understand it, cannot read those ’little tadpoles.’ So, we should just focus on Luoluo." Suizi replied, too startled to close her mouth.

She also thought Luoluo was too hyperactive, and learning to play an instrument could help calm her down and teach her patience.

"Mommy, why do I need to come here with Auntie every week?" Luoluo asked innocently.

"Because you’re about to become the brightest star in your kindergarten. Are you excited?" Suizi replied with a grin, like a wolf grandmother attempting to lure a child.
