Chapter 577: Concoction making
Concoction-making was no laughing matter.
It represented the mystical side of alchemy where even the slightest error in judgment could lead to disastrous consequences.
There had been accidents that stood the test of time, serving as warnings to all those who dared to embark on such dangerous acts.
One involved a story where, in a bid to create a love concoction, a woman had ended up turning her husband into an obsessed man who killed every man in their town just so that he would be the only one to set eyes upon what he termed as her ethereal beauty.
Another involved a man seeking to create the ultimate medicine to cure all illnesses, only to end up causing a biological catastrophe that required the Department of Defense to step in to resolve the matter.
It was for these reasons that Concoction making was not so widespread with very few within Ra’as performing it.
Of course, for someone like Victoria, though she had never created a Concoction, she had spent the better part of five hundred years honing her craft as an alchemist, ensuring that she was experienced enough to carry out the process detailed by the Witch of Fables to create the perfect concoction to aid her bonds growth.
Elena, though not as well versed, had insights into the concept as a result of what she termed her internal library, which was merely Princess Berenice’s experience in various subjects collated over years of study.
Due to this, she was also useful during the process, ensuring that no mistakes were made.
Last but not least was Arwen, who, while being the youngest, held quite a bit of theoretical insights into the process as a result of her family library that held knowledge on such things.
Together, the trio worked tirelessly, strictly following the guide set by the Witch of Fables while utilizing the materials provided by Victoria.
Two pots, one earthen and the other metal bubbled while emitting pungent smells that left Arwen gagging quite a few times.
The metal pot overflowed with a magma-like liquid that emitted sizzles intermittently, moving with a thick viscosity, while the earthen pot was filled with a thick, purplish black ichor that moved like ink.
Having been at it for almost four hours, all three breathed a sigh of relief when the Concoctions were finally ready to be imbibed.
Taking a deep breath, Victoria muttered. "Open sesame."
A spirit gate manifested out of which her bonds, Opal, the black cat, and Mirren, the white fox.
One was of the Spirit kind, otherwise known as Kitsune, while the other belonged to those known as the Wefted Felines, both of which thrived within the expanse of the Forest Region of the Spirit World, touted as the largest region within the Spirit World and ruled by the Vizier of Greenwood, Lesh.
Both appeared stunned upon setting eyes on Victoria as they quickly rushed to her side.
"What happened to you?... Are you okay?... Did you go into battle without us?" Mirren asked in a high-pitched voice not too dissimilar from a young girl, while Opal, though not as talkative, didn’t hesitate to act as he grew protective over her, manifesting threads with the intent of taking out anyone that dared to come too close.
Victoria revealed a hardly-seen smile as she cradled Mirren in one hand while rubbing her cheek on Opal’s.
"I’m fine. I just got into a bit of trouble." She remarked softly, almost like a mother addressing her kids.
Both Elena and Arwen were quite surprised as they had never seen such a side of Victoria before.
Perhaps with Alex’s absence and a chance to introspect while facing her past, a few changes had occurred within Victoria, though it was yet to be seen if this was a good or a bad thing.
"You should have called for us," Mirren muttered.
"It’s alright, all that matters is I’m okay now," Victoria remarked.
She’d considered getting help from her bonds during her quest but she knew better than anyone what could happen in such a scenario.
The Spirit World was a place where most of its rulers were territorial to the core.
If she had entered the domain of the King of Spiritual Flames with entities in servitude to the Vizier of Greenwood, the injuries she’d gotten would have been the least of her problems.
Same as if she had entered into the territory of the Prince of Rot.
So it was better that she went alone and considering her gains, it was all worth it.
"I need you two to do something important for me. Can you do that?" Victoria inquired with Mirren and Opal staring at her.
"What is that?"
"A Concoction. Do you trust me?"
"Absolutely," Mirren replied with Opal nodding in affirmation as well.
"Alright then."
Victoria turned and led them to the two pots filled with the Concoctions.
For Opal, she placed him before the earthen pot and Mirren was placed before the metal one.
The concoctions were overflowing with an energy that, though foreign to humans, was known to all Spiritual beings.
"You have to bathe in it and drink it as well. Is that okay?" Victoria asked with Opal and Mirren glancing back at her one last time before jumping in at the same time.
The mystical liquids bubbled for a bit before quickly settling, almost like the creatures had drowned, causing Victoria’s heart to skip a bit, but then she quickly calmed when she could feel that their bonds were still active.
Just then, Arwen spoke up, breaking her out of her reverie. "What now?"
Victoria hesitated for a moment before calmly replying. "Now we wait."

Stories of what had happened in Albanum and Picenza quickly reached the ears of those in Florence.
Considering the proximity between these two cities and them, it didn’t take long for the citizens of Florence to break into mild panic as they called for their leaders to do something.
But then, even the officials in charge found themselves unable to do anything.
If even the church could do nothing to stop these vile atrocities, who were they to get involved?
And so they kept mum while trying to manage the crisis.
It wasn’t until news reaching them from the capital arrived that they finally calmed down.
The message sent was rather simple; the 13th Gate has arrived.
