Chapter 527: Tree of Life
Chapter 527: Tree of Life
"What are you doing!?" The nameless nun questioned as she rushed into the cathedral just in time to catch Brenda attempting to force a crimson orb into Emily’s stomach.
Brenda glanced back at her with a ghastly expression on her face. "Are you so stupid that you do not see that the enemy is at our doorstep?"
"You could kill her!" The nameless nun remarked.
"It doesn’t matter," Brenda replied. "The most important thing here is the Savior and I’d be damned if we miss the opportunity to bring him to life."
"He requires a mother." The nameless nun retorted. "The Blessed Virgin is the only one worthy of such a post and even if she wasn’t, the core is still incomplete. The Savior won’t last long with such a defective heart."
"It doesn’t matter. As long as he lasts long enough to gain the favor of the Aether, then he will have accomplished his task."
The nameless nun gasped. "You would make the Savior a martyr?"
"It is for the best," Brenda remarked. "So, are you satisfied, or do you wish to wait until those Antimagic bastards waltz in here?"
The nameless nun gritted her teeth, contemplating the next step before finally letting out a sigh.
Clasping her hands together, she intoned. "Oh Blessed Mother, give your servant the strength to overcome the tribulation looming over her."
With that, she made her way over to the altar to stand beside Brenda.
"Please." Emily rasped out as she struggled to catch her breath.
The nameless nun reached out and caressed her cheek. "I apologize, my dear, but please... give up your life for the Savior’s birth."
With that, she took a step back and gestured for Brenda to continue.
"Please." Emily pleaded yet again but it all fell on deaf ears.
Holding the blood core which pulsed like a human heart, Brenda took out a mystical card with her other hand before proceeding to exert her Will.
The orb thumped loudly before blood rushed out of it, penetrating Emily’s womb to reach the creature within.
Emily screamed at the top of her lungs as pain wracked her nerves, leaving her on the brink of passing out, but for some reason, she found herself unable to do so.
It seemed this was the nameless nun’s doing as she wished to avoid Emily passing out in her sleep.
As Emily’s vision blurred, she found herself questioning her conviction.
Would he really come?

The Family Heads were astounded by the sight awaiting them beyond the mountains of the Eastern Highlands.
It was a land tainted by corrosive darkness with abominable trees dotting the landscape as far as the eyes could see.
Nameless things prowled these lands, letting out unintelligible noises as they moved about.
But this wasn’t what kept their attention the longest, nor was it the gaping hole in the sky that served as a connection between Eventide and the Abyss.
No, instead, it was the towering tree that stood tall at the edge of the continent.
Despite being so far away, it was the highlight of the entire region.
This tree, which reached the sky and radiated a potent air of corruption, had a bloody flesh-like bark covered in pus and extensive bony branches with thick thorny vines that moved like tentacles and resembled umbilical cords.
Various organs were on these abominable tree branches just as how fruits would hang on a normal tree.
Just looking at it caused a buzzing within the Saints as they felt their organs reacting strongly to it.
Noah gasped. "What potent vitality!"
"Indeed. Just being in its presence elicits a massive expression of life. In a sense, a cessation of death." Lionel calmly analyzed.
Before anyone could offer a response, a heart-wrenching scream echoed from somewhere around the tree.
"It would seem we must make haste," Oswald remarked with Aiden readily agreeing.
"It would seem so."
But then a cloud of darkness appeared before dispersing to reveal Obadiah in all his glory.
"Back to die?" Godric taunted with Obadiah revealing a wry smile.
I do accept that surviving is out of the question for me but I hope you don’t think that you would be unscathed facing me here. You can feel it, don’t you?... The desire of your organs to break free and return to origin?
Aiden offered no response but he and the others had to admit that Obadiah was right.
Despite constantly covering their bodies with Antimagic, their organs still reacted to the essence of the towering tree which meant that the longer they stayed, the worse it would get.
Perhaps it wouldn’t be surprising if their hearts leaped out of their mouths just to become a fruit on the tree.
Even as they said nothing, all agreed that the tree was no doubt a 1st-Class Otherworldly not too far off from the Greatest Evil above the Veil.
Obadiah chuckled.
Now come, let us dance. You have limited time after which the Savior would be born. So pray tell, would you be able to defeat me before then?
Aiden unsheathed his blade as he calmly replied. "Indeed."
The brilliance that burst forth a moment later was enough to push away the darkness that persisted a moment prior.
Meanwhile, at another location, Alex and Alejandro had just reached the end of the path the latter created through the dark curtain.
"Let me down," Alex remarked in vague annoyance while Alejandro chuckled.
To hasten their emergence on the other side, Alejandro had taken matters into his own hands, picking up Alex like a princess before barrelling through the curtain at top speed while constantly emitting a domain of heat to keep the darkness at bay.
It was a mostly successful endeavor as they crossed the distance that would have been roughly a day’s journey at normal speed in record time but then it was at the expense of Alex’s dignity.
But with much greater things at stake, Alex chose not to dwell on that and didn’t even get a chance to marvel at the incredibly disconcerting sight beyond the curtain when Emily’s screams reached his ears.
His gaze turned unnaturally cold as he made to speak only for a powerful sensation to wash over him, causing him to drop to his knees before proceeding to vomit blood.
