Chapter 526: The Devil of Greed
Chapter 526: The Devil of Greed
The Infernal Palace was quite similar to the Spirit World in that both intersected somewhat with the Mortal realm, serving as the resting place for Devils and Spirits, respectively.
Of course, there were differences, like how instead of a diverse land filled with different ecosystems, the Infernal Palace appeared as a glamorous pagoda with seven floors within a void-like space brimming with all sorts of negative emotions.
Each floor in the Palace was occupied by a different Devil with Baseth occupying the sixth floor.
Currently, however, Baseth had a rather peculiar visitor who sat in a bedroom conjured with a simple thought.
This visitor ate at a leisure place while reading a book, casually blocking out Baseth’s floating lips that sort to frustrate her by speaking gibberish without pause.
Sayda let out a sigh at some point before glancing at one of the lips. "Do you have nothing better to do?"
Unfortunately not. If you are unhappy, you are welcome to take your leave.
The floating lips replied while curling at the edges.
"Go die."
I’d rather not. So I believe you can only listen to me speak.
Sayda let out another sigh as she shook her head before returning her attention to her book with Baseth’s troubling voice following soon after.
However, it didn’t take long for the lips to stop talking for a moment with Sayda furrowing her brows as well.
Glancing at one of the floating lips, she intoned. "Seems you have a visitor."
It would seem so.
Merely a moment had passed before the bedroom doors swung open and Amase walked in.
Amase, I had no idea you were visiting. If you’d told me, I’d have prepared lunch.
Amase smiled as she replied.
No need, I only came for a quick visit.
I see, however, do endeavor to let me know next time before barging in here. I might not be so amicable if it happens again.
Ignoring Baseth, Amase exchanged looks with Sayda who had sat up at some point.
I hear you are searching for an Alpha.
"Indeed, I am." Sayda nodded. "It is common knowledge in our circle."
Fine then, I’ve found one.
Sayda frowned at the sudden remark. "Are you joking?"
Do I look like I am in the mood for games?
"Where did you find him?"
I’ll give you what I stole on one condition.
"What?"
Kill all those accompanying him.
"Why?" Sayda raised a brow.
It wasn’t that she was averse to killing but for a bonafide Devil to give such a charge, there had to be a deeper reason.
If I can’t have them, no one else can. That is the message I wish to pass.
"Oh my." Sayda giggled. "Who would be daring enough to anger a Devil so?... They must have a death wish."
Do we have a deal?
Sayda grinned. "But of course."
Then here it is.
Amase did nothing except speak yet it was enough to pass across what Sayda desired.
She felt it permeate her for a moment, the somewhat tainted bloodline of an Alpha, a born leader of the near-extinct werewolves.
Her eyes flashed for a moment as she divined the current location of the owner of the bloodline before quickly getting an answer.
"It is as you’ve said," Sayda muttered with a brilliant smile. "It would seem my journey is at an end."
A moment later, she vanished from the room, leaving Baseth to confront Amase.
Do you not know why they require that bloodline?
Amase snorted.
The Harbinger has no quarrel with us. Let her return for all I care. But no one humiliates me and gets away with it.
With that, the Devil of Greed also left.
A long-winded sigh echoed across the sixth floor soon after.

The temporal lock vanished with Gabriel’s death, allowing the Monarchs to once again move as they pleased.
Vorigan’s gaze fell on the blood stains that remained from the Great Devourer’s feast before looking ahead to find that not one but two had fallen prey to the Great Devourer’s might, with the latter’s petrified form slowly turning to dust.
"That was close," Lucas muttered while running his hand through his hair.
As a long-lived being, death was naturally the one thing they feared the most, and not too long ago, it seemed to be closer than they would have liked.
"We should deal with the heart of the ritual," Beatrice suggested even as she also let out a sigh filled with relief.
All in agreement, they rushed toward the center of the valley with the Great Devourer following closely behind in a camouflaged state, its reptilian eyes sweeping around the area.
Upon arrival at the center, Gregory was the first to speak. "It’s gone."
"Damn it." Moldark cursed aloud.
"For them to do this means they are on their last legs," Vorigan remarked. "If it were easy to perform the Blood Feast ritual anywhere, there would have been no reason for Elijah to pick out this spot specifically."
"Which means they took the core of the ritual but can’t reenact so quickly," Lucas remarked with Maxius nodding.
"Unless they have a hundred thousand sacrifices waiting somewhere inland."
"What now?" Moldark posed the most important question on everyone’s minds.
Just as Vorigan made his speech, the crimson sky slowly but surely began to disappear, replaced by the lavender sky with the Nighteye as its centerpiece.
"What’s going on?" Beatrice questioned only for Vorigan to respond in a tense tone.
"I don’t know but I have a feeling it’s not yet time to celebrate."
Following that, an ear-piercing scream echoed from the depths of the Highlands, causing everyone who heard it to feel the pain its owner felt.

Natasha gasped as she awoke to find herself in an enclosed space, the same place she had been before the slumber struck.
If not for her exhaustion, it would have never affected her so deeply, but she didn’t mind, considering she had recovered a fraction of her strength.
Taking a deep breath, she glanced to the side to find that Leslie was waking up as well.
It seemed he was even more exhausted than she was which would explain why he was waking up a second later.
