Chapter 516: Place to be

"Father." Phineas softly intoned as even a fool could tell that Humphrey was no more and the figure before them was merely a shadow of his former self.

"You bastard!" One of the Exarchs cursed as she glared at Alex. "How dare you use your vile sorcery to taint our father?"

Alex offered no response, hardly putting them in his sight as he remained focused on Enoch.

It seemed the baby noticed his gaze as he innocently looked back, blinking repeatedly before flashing a warm smile.

Just then, Alex sensed an attack but it was not from the Emperor but instead from Adelia.

Before it connected, however, Alejandro projected his Will and unleashed his Authority, forcibly destroying the attack while suppressing the Exarchs along with Adelia.

"Do you have no respect?" Alejandro questioned aggressively as he looked upon them with contempt.

None answered but they all glared at Alex with vengeful gazes, unwilling to back down.

Humphrey let out a sigh at that moment.

Let them go, Alejandro, they are merely acting impulsively.

"Which would be wise if it were not that the person they just tried to kill saved this continent." Alejandro calmly remarked, causing Adelia to frown.

Only then did she realize that Eternal Winter was no more with the town she had conquered, swallowed by the snow.

"You..." She was left flabbergasted at the sight.

Phineas and the other Exarchs seemed to have noticed as well and their expressions cooled slightly.

"Father." Phineas softly called out with Humphrey nodding.

If not for him, Winter would still be rampaging at this moment and perhaps might have already escaped the Abyss. He may have desecrated my dead body, but it was for a good cause.

"I see," Phineas muttered before addressing Alex. "Apologies."

Satisfied with this, Alejandro retracted his Authority, allowing Adelia and the Exarchs to breathe once again.

Meanwhile, Alex decided not to linger any longer as he felt the key to unlock WatchGuard grow even more complete.

It seemed even in death, he had saved the town from an eternity of icy torment and that was enough.

Of course, he still needed a bit more but that was no problem as seconds later, a ripple in space occurred followed by the emergence of a Spirit Portal.

Victoria stepped out before proceeding to bow. "Master."

"Any luck?"

"The Monarchs are most likely to agree to your demands," Victoria replied with Alex nodding in satisfaction.

At this juncture, Adelia questioned. "What are you planning?"

"None of your concern, Mouthpiece. Return to the capital and await the instructions of your superiors. Stop trying to upset me."

"You..."

Adelia, that’s enough.

"But..."

I said that’s enough. You are still not at a level where you can interfere in such matters. Leave now.

Gritting her teeth, Adelia turned and left while the Exarchs waited behind.

Seeing this, Humphrey let out a sigh

You lot should go as well.

"But father..."

Don’t worry, even if I am dead, it doesn’t change anything. Phineas, you are close, aren’t you?

Phineas pursed his lips before nodding silently.

"A useful chess piece in combat." Alex calmly replied.

Lastly, what is your goal?

"Does it matter?"

Humphrey met Alex’s gaze for a moment that seemed stretched to an eternity before he ultimately replied.

Alex nodded. "Same here."

With that, Humphrey dissipated and entered Alex’s shadow, adding another to the gradually increasing roster of Forever Knights.

Satisfied with this, Alex turned to Alejandro who’d watched the exchange between him and Humphrey silently.

"Do you wish to head back to Aragon?"

Alejandro shook his head. "That is not where the battle is. I will head to BlackWatch."

"The battle will be tough," Alex admitted.

"But you need me to participate, isn’t that right?"

Alex sighed. "If my deductions are correct, whatever is beyond the Highlands is much worse than just one 1st-Class Otherworldly. So BlackWatch is going to need all the help it can get."

"More reason for me to head over then."

Alex nodded before snapping, resulting in the emergence of a clone.

"He will help you with drafting some of your people to aid the planning at BlackWatch," Alex explained with Alejandro nodding while muttering a low thank you.

With that, Alex made to leave with Victoria only for Alejandro to call him back.

"Hmm?"

"I know you aren’t trying to be a hero, but still, your actions have made a great deal of difference, remember that."

It seemed Alejandro had fully acknowledged Alex as a brother in arms, catching the Hunter off guard.

Before he could say a word, Alex felt the Hero Lock loosen up, allowing him to realize that he didn’t necessarily have to go in a linear pattern to recover the lost Locks.

Immediately, Alejandro felt a change in Alex’s aura causing him to furrow his brows.

Regardless, he said nothing else and so, Alex left with Victoria, leaving behind another Alex to help Alejandro transport some of his strongest fighters over from Aragon.

It seemed BlackWatch was the place to be.
