Chapter 311: And who decided that?

The perfect execution of White Hole did nothing to exacerbate Alex’s worries causing him to stay on guard, watching as the white light dissipated with Hala still intact.

"That..."

Hala didn’t even get a chance to speak as a black and white figure outlined itself behind her and swung its blade, its movement swift as it was precise.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as several vines shot out in an instant, ensnaring the figure who turned out to be Charlotte.

"Shit." Alex cursed while attempting to provide aid, an act which was quickly met with futility.

Hala picked a card, releasing a wave of destruction that removed everything in its path, including Charlotte.

Alex grimaced, the look of disappointment unmistakable on his visage.

Seeing this, Hala couldn’t help but mock. "Was that it?... Was that your big finish?"

"..."

"Quite unfortunate. I expected more from you." Shaking her head, she added. "Regardless, I believe it’s time for our little game to end."

Alex opened his mouth to retort only for a sudden howl to cause him pause.

Then there was the voice, one filled with arrogance. "And who decided that?"

Hala shifted her attention with Alex doing so as well, both just in time to watch as an enormous ball of magma appeared above Alejandro, his posture erect with a hand in the air and two fingers raised.

Beside Alejandro was a snickering Victoria, who seemed quite proud of her accomplishment in bringing the Rey back from the edge of insanity.

A rare smile adorned Alex’s lips at that moment as a new plan quickly formed in his head.

At the same time, Hala snorted as she moved to pick a card only for Victoria to beat her to it, her right arm swiftly clawing at Hala’s distant figure.

Several black and white chains sprang forth, trapping Hala for a brief moment... and that was all Alejandro needed.

The ball of magma descended like God’s punishment, slamming down wickedly on Hala with a pained scream escaping her lips as it engulfed her.

Alex was left perplexed, only to recall that Alejandro had mentioned something about his magma being different.

Perhaps that had something to do with this?

Regardless, Alex prepared to regroup with the rest to share the new strategy he had in mind only to pause as Hala’s enraged voice reached his ears and by extension, everyone else’s.

"You bastards!"

Whoosh

The magma dissipated, revealing a scorched Hala who was naked owing to her clothes getting incinerated by the attack.

"That was my favorite gown!... And you ruined it!" Hala bellowed, her eyes devoid of the excitement it once had, brimming with rage that caused Alex to frown.

It would seem his wish to keep Hala from getting serious was not to be fulfilled.

True to expectations, Hala pulled out seven cards at once, each one brimming with the seven deadly sins.

"I will break you." She said as her body was covered in vines.

"I will eat your flesh." She continued as she slowly floated into the air.

"And I will grind your bones till they become dust." She finished as she pulled out yet another card and placed it against her chest, an armor filled with curses and burning with destruction materializing on her vine-covered physique.

Alex restrained the urge to curse as he loudly intoned. "Ana!"

Experienced in combat, Ana dropped her hands, releasing the temporal lock she placed over the island, and then raised her hand in Hala’s direction before clasping to form a fist.

Instantly, Hala was frozen in time, her figure entwined by several glowing temporal loops.

Meanwhile, Ana’s release over the island caused the murky swamp to appear once again, the undead creatures and monstrous abominations moving to attack.

Regardless, Alex was prepared as he immediately snapped, black and white flames erupting from his figure before moving to engulf the entire island.

As Embers of Twilight went to work destroying the swamp, the group experienced a brief sense of reprieve but it was not to be maintained as Hala twitched.

Perhaps it was because she was in her home territory or just because of the messed up structure of the Abyss, Ana’s temporal control was unable to fully hold Hala, providing her an avenue to think since her body was unable to break the frozen time.

And a thought was all Hala needed to evoke a Miracle, the area about her glowing bright green as several vines formed in mid-air.

None knew what she intended but all knew they couldn’t allow her to act as she wanted and so... Alejandro howled before slamming his palms together, a thunderous roar exploding in the sky before rivers of lava emerged, swallowing the vines and even Hala herself.

"Ah!" Hala screamed yet again, making it the second time she’d done so, at Alejandro’s hand nonetheless.

Alex restrained the envy welling up in his heart and for good reason as the island suddenly tilted with Ana exclaiming.

"It’s the Greatest Evil!"

Instinctually, Alex reacted, unleashing Nyx’s authority, hopeful that it would cause the Otherworldly to back off.

It did... but not in the way he intended.

Kieeee

An ear-piercing shriek erupted from somewhere below with the entire island plunging into silence the next second.

None moved, all seemingly frozen in time as they remained in place.

Then slowly... blood began to flow.

From their eyes, from their ears, from their nose... they all bled from their orifices with Hala the sole exception.

Alex tried to speak only to cough up more blood before falling to his knees, his complexion quickly turning pale.

Ana and Victoria followed with Alejandro the last amongst them.

With the four currently indisposed, Embers of Twilight faded, the lake of lava dissipated and Hala was freed from her trappings in time, a grin adorning her crooked visage.

"Well, well, well... Quite an unfortunate turn of events, don’t you agree?"

None spoke, of course, all still struggling to deal with the disorientation plaguing them.

Hala said no more as she unleashed the seven sins on the group and then...
