Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 310: Round One

Chapter 310: Round One

Possessing incredible physical strength while lacking mental strength... This was the basis for the Beast Wheel and Alejandro’s current circumstances gave credence to that.

Ever since he learned of the corruption in the Wandering Forest, he’d known that his people would be vulnerable, but his sense of duty caused him to throw caution to the wind to end things before it was too late.

Although quite understandable, it became apparent that he made the wrong decision.

Now he found himself grappling with the disillusionment that Aragon and everything it held would always be a reminder that the BeastMen culture, the same one they took such pride in, wasn’t their own to begin with.

That they had borrowed and were now forced to face the consequences of that act.

It seemed a minor issue for others, considering human tribes had also borrowed from ancient times to progress, same with the Cryptids, but the BeastMen had always thought themselves different and perhaps, it was because they wished so badly to be different that the reality of them being just like the others left Alejandro listless.

The evil rising within caused the Rey to fall to his knees, his breathing uneven as he struggled to retain his sanity.

But that was easier said than done.

His willpower was indeed strong, but it was a case of a lack of Compatibility and so, Alejandro found himself slowly slipping over the edge, the unmistakable stench of corruption beckoning for him to let go.

"Ah!" He screamed out in anguish only to be struck across the face and sent sprawling to the ground.

Through his blurry vision, he found Ara standing over him, a disdainful expression on her face.

"You..."

"Despite your pride, look at you groveling like a dog. You can be weak, but don’t drag my master down with you." Ara spat coldly, her annoyance unmistakable.

Alejandro found himself unable to utter a word in protest and perhaps due to that, the madness threatening to burst forth grew slightly calmer.

The reality of the island sinking left a bitter taste in Alex’s mouth and as much as he wished to curse, he knew now that he was on borrowed time.

"Alex!" Ana called out, the distress she felt causing her to drop all formalities from earlier.

The fear on her face was evidence of what she felt within which was understandable.

Alex wouldn’t be surprised if she was experiencing PTSD at this moment considering the enemy before them was similar to the one that had rendered her vulnerable not too long ago.

Pa

So he moved, with the thought of ensuring his subordinates wouldn’t regret following him and to complete the task he’d accepted of his own free will.

Of course... that was easier said than done as Hala pulled out a single card and immediately, Alex was forced to retreat as a conflagration of black flames erupted, taking the form of an enormous serpent that chased after him.

Alex snapped yet again, causing black and white flames to erupt before him just in time to block the serpent’s charge with the ensuing collision causing shockwaves that left the land devastated.

At the same time, A dust cloud formed, obscuring Alex’s form for a moment just as he was about to snap.

Hala took out another card in preparation to handle whatever Alex had in store yet upon the dust cloud clearing, she found that there was no one to be found.

"Hiding away, are we?... Pathetic." Hala mocked as she utilized the card in her grasp.

A black orb appeared above her and seconds later, erupted in an omnidirectional wave, intent on destroying everything it came in contact with.

Two distinct snaps were heard as Alex was forced to retreat, his figure outlining itself several meters away from Hala.

Hala grinned. "Tick-tock, your time is running out."

"I know, I know," Alex muttered in vague annoyance as he watched the destructive wave dissipate.

Taking a deep breath, he made his move.

Snapping to teleport to a place above Hala, he instantly snapped again, creating a black hole to appear.

"Oh my," Hala revealed a troubled expression for the first time as the gravitational pull of the hole sucked everything in, slowly taking her off her feet.

Alex however didn’t stop there as he switched positions yet again and snapped, causing yet another hole to form and then another, and then another.

Hala found herself pulled on all sides by the black holes, her body slowly torn apart but instead of dread, she began to laugh, seemingly enjoying the situation.

Alex made to create another hole only to instead shift positions just in time to watch as everything fell apart after Hala picked up a card.

The whole area turned pitch black in an instant as malevolent forces emerged to devour everything leaving Alex flustered and full of questions.

Chuckling wildly, Hala floated in mid-air, the burgeoning malevolence about her causing Alex to halt the strategy he had in mind.

"That was fun," Hala muttered, regarding Alex with intrigue. "Can you do it again?"

A few curses lingered on Alex’s tongue but none would help much at the moment as he thought it wise not to aggravate Hala.

It was clear she was messing around, so the consideration of how bad things would get should Hala get serious before his plan was put into motion left Alex with little room to be disrespectful.

"Tell me, what are you going to do after Isena Thalore is reborn?... You know your presence would cause irreparable damage to the world."

"It matters not," Hala replied. "In any case, the world would be destroyed soon, might as well hasten the process, right?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Don’t you know?... #$@#@..." Revealing a surprised look, Hala placed her hand over her lips. "Oops, I guess I’m not supposed to say anything."

"..." A deep sense of foreboding crept up Alex’s spine as he found himself unable to understand what Hala had tried to say.

Just then, a voice spoke in his head and he immediately regained himself.

Noticing the change in demeanor, Hala excitedly inquired. "Ready to go another round?"

"Yeah..."

Pa

A white hole suddenly appeared above her head and before she could react, the light enveloped her in a warm embrace.

"...I think I am."
