Chapter 671: Chapter 19: Have You Learned the Forbidden Curse?_1
It’s the same small office, partitioned by a few big bookcases.
The luminous fruits hang down from the entwining vines overhead and still serve as the main source of light.
However, this time, neither Poseidon nor the intricate alchemical instrument is in the office. Su Shijun sits behind the desk, faced with stacks of thick documents. Feather pens are hopping merrily between different files, leaving behind a string of beautiful script.
"Sit." Su Shijun, behind the desk, still attends to her work and without lifting her head, asks, "Want something to drink?"
While she speaks, a transparent glass teapot with a short spout, its handle curving like a bird’s neck, floats out from a nearby cupboard. Wide leaves bob up and down in the boiling water inside the pot, brewing a pool of green tea. Following behind the teapot is a small teacup, resembling a hen leading its chick.
"Just water will do..." The young cost student hasn’t even finished saying the word ’fine’ when the teacup ’clangs’ onto the table in front of him. Then, the floating teapot tilts slightly and pours half a cup of tea into it.
Zheng Qing looks at the green tea and the floating teapot hovering in front of him but finally decides not to insist on his preference. He silently picks up the small cup and takes one, two, three small sips.
His cup is empty.
The floating teapot tilts again and fills up Zheng Qing’s cup.
The young man then continues his rhythm of lifting the cup and sipping.
Cup after cup, until the tea in the pot changes from deep green to light green, and then to nearly transparent.
However, the witch behind the desk continues to work on her documents, seemingly forgetting about the presence of another person in the room.
After quite some time, she finally looks up and stretches lazily.
Then, she sees the young wizard sitting across from her, holding his teacup, with a blank look on his face.
"You haven’t left yet?" She seems to be a bit puzzled.
"Why am I here?!" Zheng Qing is even more baffled.
Su Shijun adjusts her glasses, remains silent for a few seconds, and finally chuckles, "Ha ha... sorry... I was so busy that I forgot about you."
Then, she casually takes off her large red glasses, revealing her stunning face.
All the anger Zheng Qing had managed to muster suddenly evaporates.
"No... it’s okay." He averts his gaze, brandishes his hand, and stammers, "I am... a bit tired... It’s good to rest a bit. Just to rest."
"Well, that’s good." The witch’s lips curve into a playful smile as she puts her glasses back on.
Zheng Qing can’t help but breathe a sigh of relief — Although he’s embarrassed to admit it, he has to face the fact that, when Su Shijun took off her magic glasses, he almost choked on the spellbinding radiance of her face.
After putting on her glasses, Su Shijun leans back in her chair with her arms crossed, watching the young cost student with a mischievous smile, she asks again, "Do you know why I called you here?"
Being cautious not to meet the witch’s eyes, Zheng Qing restricts his gaze to below her nose and mumbles, "...Is it because I haven’t brought Poseidon to see you for these two weeks?"
From the moment he entered the office, Zheng Qing has been trying to figure out why Su Daxu called him in.
If it was just about Dr. Chen, she could have simply let Zheng Qing leave at the lab building’s exit. If it was about confirming some data, she should have left the young wizard outside under the giant light globes instead of bringing him into the office.
After much consideration, it seems the only plausible reason is the ’child’.
The last time they met, Su Shijun asked Zheng Qing to bring Poseidon to No. 54 courtyard, west district of Beta Town weekly. It’s not only Qingqiu Club but also Su Shijun’s regular residence outside of the main campus.
Despite the strange feeling of being reminded of post-divorce visitation rights, Zheng Qing pleasantly agreed to Su Daxu’s request. However, he totally forgot about it while buried in all kinds of tasks related to the prep for the Freshmen competition last week.
"I’ve been preparing for the Newcomer’s contest these two weeks, so I’ve been a bit tight on time," Zheng Qing shifts nervously in his chair and explains softly, "...If needed, I can go to the Pet Garden now to bring it over."
"Oh, yes, there’s also that," Su Shijun’s face falls, "I almost forgot if you didn’t mention it..."
Zheng Qing musters all his strength to resist the urge to slap himself.
"...Let’s just leave it for now; just bring it over for a visit to Qingqiu Mansion whenever you have time next week." Su Shijun waves her hand, declining Zheng Qing’s suggestion and snorts, "Taking it around this late at night without letting it rest... Is this how you take care of children?"
The young cost student keeps his eyes on his nose and his nose on his mind, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with the witch’s statement.
Good heavens, he’s still a virgin! Can she avoid blaming him for the harsh responsibilities of marriage, just like that?
Of course, he only dares to mutter this in his heart. It’s impossible for him to say it out loud in front of a grand wizard.
"I called you here today, partly to discuss your shadow. But now that your shadow has run away, we can put that aside for now." Speaking of this, Su Shijun seems to remember something. She looks at Zheng Qing with a strange gaze and suddenly asks, "...Do you know how your shadow ’transcended’ itself?"
Zheng Qing looks at her blankly and shakes his head.
"Do you know about the forbidden spell?" The witch persists.
"I’ve heard of it." As far as the most powerful magic in the world is concerned, Zheng Qing actually knows a bit about the forbidden spell. Just a few weeks ago, during a Philosophy of Magic class, Old Yao had given a brief explanation to the freshmen about the principle of forbidden spell based on dimension theory.
"Have you studied the forbidden spell?" Su Shijun, staring persistently at Zheng Qing, continues her inquiry.
Finally, the young cost student can no longer bear it. He raises his head and gazes at the witch’s eyes, trying to detect a hint of jesting in her expression.
He strongly suspects she’s lost her mind.
"Do you think I look like someone who has studied forbidden spells?" The male wizard spreads his hands and gives a weak smile, "Or do you think, if I knew forbidden spells, would I still be attending freshman lectures?"
Although he knows that forbidden spells are made based on the principle of dimension convergence, just like many people know that nuclear bombs are produced based on the principle of fission chain reaction — there is still a profound gap between theory and practice.
"Well, yes." With one arm folded across her chest and the other supporting her chin, Su Shijun taps her lips with her index finger, a thoughtful expression in her eyes. "Even if you knew the chants for forbidden spells, you definitely had to sign some sort of pact... to forcibly forget those things."
Zheng Qing takes a deep breath, wanting to refute, but he doesn’t know where to start.
Su Shijun shoots a glance at him and explains briefly, "Your shadow used a forbidden spell to destroy over a thousand two-dimensional worlds and forced itself to ’transcend’... It can be considered a classic example of ’forceful enlightenment’."
What she says sounds humorous, but Zheng Qing doesn’t find it amusing at all.
The young cost student is dumbstruck.
