Chapter 670: Chapter 18: Back to Su Shijun’s Laboratory_1

"I do not know anything about this experiment!"

"Besides, this shadow I have now is not the one that ran back from the lab originally."

"I have no clue where the shadow that ’transcended’ and came back, went. All I know is that it was still on me before the freshman competition. But after the competition, it ran away... not just ran away, it even packed up and took away many of the knowledge and experiences it had brought back!"

The young scholarship student stared with earnestness and sincerity at the ’senior researcher’ in front of him, desperately trying to disassociate himself from that damned shadow, worried that should he slip up, he would be taken away and placed on the dissecting table.

Of course, even so, his depiction still had some reservations - in fact, based on the explanation by Xiao Xiao afterwards, and his communication with ’Forty One’, the agent brought by Old Yao, Zheng Qing could roughly guess where his shadow that ’transcended’ from the 2-D world was now.

However, in his view, this matter was of vital importance, so the less people knew, the better.

Dr. Chen, floating in mid-air, tilted his head, staring at the young scholarship student without uttering a word. His bright eyes made the onlooker’s hair stand on end.

A long time later, the silence in the room was broken by Su Shijun.

"We all can see that he is not lying." Su Danmei adjusted the large red glasses on her face, a faint smile on her lips: "In that case, cutting off his shadow again would be pointless."

"Honesty and the actual facts are not the same concept." Although Dr. Chen had a pleasant smile on his face, his words were extremely sharp: "Even if he’s telling the truth, it doesn’t mean that’s what actually happened."

"The fact is, I can allow him to help you complete some questionnaires, and then provide some experimental data from DYDX-S-NO.1. But that’s all." Su Shujin’s voice became slightly cold.

"Thank you very much." Floating in mid-air, the apparition of Dr. Chen nodded slightly. As a simple expression of his gratitude, he turned into a streak of light and disappeared into the increasingly dim night sky.

Zheng Qing’s gaze followed that streak of light as it flew into the corridor. After it passed the distant treetops, branches and skeletons and the shadow of the high rise, it ultimately seemed to disappear into the horizon, leaving Zheng Qing with an unsettling feeling.

"Are you planning to stand outside all night? Or do you want to go back now?!" Su Shijun’s cold voice echoed behind the scholarship student, abruptly pulling his scattered attention back.

Turning his head back, the senator of the Under the Moon Council had already walked into the lab building and was about to turn the corner into the corridor of the first-floor hall. A few fox maids followed her quietly, without paying any attention to the male wizard outside the lab building.

Zheng Qing scratched his head.

He would very much like to leave right away. His rational mind kept warning him that staying next to the wizard world’s first beauty would constantly bring trouble his way - but hearing the witch’s tone just now, Zheng Qing felt that if he just slipped away quietly, he might be tied up by the fox maids and thrown into Lin Zhong Lake.

Besides, like every other male wizard in the wizard world, Zheng Qing enjoyed spending more time with Su Shijun. This was genuinely from his heart and he wasn’t being fearful.

Even as these thoughts turned in his mind, the young scholarship student dutifully followed the witch’s steps.

"Flapping!"

The sound of wings flapping echoed through the air, stopping Zheng Qing in his tracks. The echoing raspy, murmuring noise filled the big and quiet hall:

"This is the Magic Research Institute of the First College, Ascend Dimensional Experimental Research Institute..... please sign in and out, irrelevant personnel please stay back..."

Listening to the familiar lines, Zheng Qing’s eyes widened as he looked at the chubby tiger-skin parrot squatting on the bird perch. He pointed at the retreating figures of Su Shijun and her group for a while and then said hesitantly, "I’m with them..."

"Are you a fox spirit?" The tiger-skin parrot tilted its head, and blinked its small mung bean-sized eyes, looking rather silly.

"I’m a human wizard." Zheng Qing felt his forehead breaking out in a sweat.

"So, do you work in that lab with a long name? Do you have a work card? I remember you’re only a freshman! To tell you the truth, we’re familiar with each other, so you can’t fool me." The tiger-skin parrot flapped its wings and prattled non-stop.

Zheng Qing sighed, took a quill pen out of the grey bag, and a handful of bird food.

"I guess I’ll just fill out the application form." He resignedly pulled a visitor form from the desk and signed it quickly while directing the quill pen, and simultaneously shoved the bird food into the tiger-skin parrot’s feed container.

"Such a courteous child." The parrot on duty complimented, burying its head into the feed without even looking at the form Zheng Qing filled.

Meanwhile, the food dish resounded with its muffled voice, "After filling the form, you can just go straight in... We are familiar! No need to go through all that troublesome procedure!"

After completing the form, Zheng Qing put away his quill pen. He looked suspiciously once more at the parrot, now engrossed in its food. He strongly suspected that he was stopped because the tiger-skin parrot wanted to solicit some snacks.

But better to do less than more, Zheng Qing won’t end up arguing with a parrot, whose brain is smaller than a walnut, for a handful of bird feed.

"Sorry for the trouble then, see you!" Zheng Qing slapped the filled form on the front desk. After politely making some small talk, he turned around, and decided to go look for Su Shijun’s lab.

"GOOD LUCK!" The tiger-skin parrot raised its wings and peeked out one eyeball from the feed container, "I heard that last time some foxes clipped your shadow... This time, be careful! You’re a good guy, stay safe!"

Zheng Qing tugged at the corner of his mouth, ultimately deciding to pretend he didn’t hear the parrot’s ’blessings’.

Walking deep into the lab building along the corridor, it didn’t take Zheng Qing long to find the lab - the door was identical to his last visit, as were the door plate and decor.

The interior of the lab was still the same old space, long and empty, and closed off, like a bomb shelter. The grayish-green walls, the metallic sheen on the surface, the neatly arranged hexagonal stone platforms, and all the milky-white giant light globes on the platforms.

Everything was identical to Zheng Qing’s last visit, as if no explosion had ever taken place here - even though he wasn’t present for the most recent explosion, but based on the seismic activity and the fire he had felt from afar, he initially thought that the entire place was leveled.

"This must be the power of magic." The young scholarship student thought to himself, casting his gaze over the researchers draped in black robes around him, as well as the giant light globes. He didn’t pause and confidently headed towards Su Shijun’s office.

Perhaps because Su Danmei had said something beforehand, or maybe because all the researchers were focused on their own work, no one either guided or stopped Zheng Qing, allowing him to wander around freely.
