Chapter 91: Hitchin A Ride
Chen Li, noticing Chen Mei’s attempt to forcefully calm her nerves, smiled in a cheeky manner before turning his gaze to Lin Feng, who had remained silent the entire time.
"Boy, you’re pretty lucky. Who would’ve thought you’d be entangled with two women who are clearly very special?" Chen Li shifted his attention to Lin Feng and winked.
Yan Hao and Yan Li quickly joined in, adding to the teasing.
"That’s right, Big Bro Feng! The Young Miss is the most beautiful girl in Silverpine City—you better take care of her, you hear me?" Yan Hao laughed.
"Exactly! Young Miss Chen Mei is the crown jewel of Silverpine. Not only is she pretty, but she’s also incredibly talented. You can’t go wrong choosing someone like her," Yan Li added with a knowing smile.
It was bad enough that Old Man Chen was teasing her—now that even these twins had joined in, Chen Mei couldn’t hold back her temper any longer.
With a sudden stomp of her foot, the ground rumbled beneath them.
"Hmph! You two—I haven’t forgotten about you talking behind my back earlier. Are you looking for a beating?!" Chen Mei threatened, flashing a menacing smile.
The twins instantly shivered, their teasing tone shifting to a more ingratiating one.
"Almighty Young Miss Chen Mei, you are the kindest, most intelligent, most beautiful, and most talented girl in all of Silverpi—no, wait! In all of the Eastern Territories!
Someone as outstanding as you is clearly a forgiving person—one who does not hold grudges!" Yan Hao declared with gusto, doing his best to maintain a flattering smile.
"That’s right! The Young Miss is the epitome of beauty, power, and brains. No other woman can even compare to our Young Miss—even you, Lin Feng, are not worthy," Yan Li added, his voice full of admiration.
He shot Lin Feng an apologetic look, his expression making his thoughts clear:
Sorry, Big Bro Feng—this one’s out of my control!
Lin Feng, watching the entire scene unfold, still felt a bit dazed.
He couldn’t quite understand why Chen Mei hadn’t done more to punish him.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed her lips curling into a smile—clearly, she was enjoying whatever nonsense the twins were spouting.
Yet, her words naturally contradicted her feelings as she continued to put on a tough front.
"Hmph! You think I don’t know what you two are doing? You’re obviously masters at conning people!" Chen Mei lifted her cute face with a haughty expression, as if she were genuinely mad.
Yan Hao and Yan Li were about to resume their flattery when Huang Bei, who had been watching the interaction quietly from the sidelines, suddenly cleared his throat and spoke up.
"I think it’s about time we head back to Silverpine," Huang Bei said, glancing at Lin Feng and the others before continuing.
"Even though Old Chen patched us up, we still need a few days to fully recover from our injuries. The longer we stay here, the more likely something will go wrong. I don’t know about Brother Feng, but if someone ambushed me right now, I probably wouldn’t be able to do anything."
All of them froze as they suddenly remembered that Lin Feng and Huang Bei had suffered the most serious injuries. Chen Mei’s expression turned serious as she gave a firm nod.
"That’s right, we should head back. It’s also getting late—we don’t want any stronger bandits showing up."
Lin Feng turned and approached the towering Frostvenom Python once more. Bowing his head respectfully, he asked,
"Senior, would it be possible for us to hitch a ride back to Silverpine City?"
The Frostvenom Python, which had been silently observing their conversation, remained quiet for a few moments before nodding slightly.
It released a single, low hiss.
[The Frostvenom Python says it holds a favorable impression of the host due to the aura of the Blackwood Ruler. However, it also states that the host still owes it a favor in the future.]
I can’t believe that actually worked!
Feng thought excitedly—he clearly hadn’t expected his request to be granted, especially since he and the Frostvenom Python didn’t share any special relationship, unlike his connection with the Blackwood Ruler.
The fact that it allowed him and the others to ride on its back was undoubtedly a good sign.
"Thank you very much, Senior. I will surely repay this favor in the future," Feng replied solemnly. Then, turning back to Chen Mei and the others, he spoke.
"Let’s go, guys. I just got permission from Senior Frost—was it?—for us to ride on him back to the city,"
Feng announced, his tone light but carrying a trace of pride as he tried to play it off like it wasn’t a big deal.
Yet, the slight upward curl of his lips and the glint in his eyes betrayed just how pleased he was to have successfully requested a favor from the Frostvenom Python.
Hehe, finally, something went right for me today!
The others stared at him in stunned silence.
Although they were impressed, a shared thought echoed in their minds:
"I’m pretty sure Chen Mei could’ve asked for that kind of favor just as easily."
And yet, watching Feng act so smug about it, they all silently agreed not to burst his bubble.
The massive, hundred-meter-long Frostvenom Python lowered itself onto the ground with a thunderous thud, making it easier for them to climb aboard.
Its enormous coils shimmered with an icy, crystalline hue beneath the golden sunlight, radiating an aura of raw, terrifying power.
Despite its intimidating presence, there was an unmistakable air of patience in the creature’s movements—a sign of the strange bond it seemed to share with Feng.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Feng leaped onto its back.
He landed smoothly, settling into a lotus position with practiced ease, as if riding on the back of an ancient spirit beast was something he did every day.
"Let’s go, guys!" he called out, his voice brimming with excitement. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity—it’s not every day you get to hitch a ride on a member of the spiritual beast race!"
