Chapter 90: An Accident
"AHHHHHHH!" Chen Mei suddenly screamed, panic flashing across her face.
Without a second thought, she thrust her right hand forward, unleashing a surge of spiritual energy that forcefully blasted Lin Feng away.
BOOM!
Caught completely off guard, Lin Feng didn’t bother raising his defenses.
After everything they’d been through, he hadn’t expected Chen Mei to attack him.
His body flew back ten meters before crashing hard into the ground.
A sharp jolt of pain shot through him as he grimaced, rubbing his sore backside.
The wounds that Chen Li had just healed throbbed painfully again.
"What was that for?!" Lin Feng raised his voice, irritation flashing in his eyes. Being suddenly thrown off like that had clearly struck a nerve.
"I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to blast you away like that!" Chen Mei blurted out, panic lacing her voice.
Seeing Lin Feng struggling to get up, she rushed to his side, reaching out to help him.
As Lin Feng steadied himself, a thought crossed his mind—despite being struck by someone at the 10th level of Qi Condensation, his injuries were far less severe than they should have been.
That meant even though Chen Mei had lashed out instinctively, she had still held back enough to avoid seriously hurting him.
Realizing this, his anger gradually faded as he glanced toward her.
"Are you okay?" Chen Mei asked softly, her concern evident as she anxiously examined him for any signs of injury.
Lin Feng let out a breath, relaxing slightly.
"I’m fine. You definitely held back—if you hadn’t, I’d probably be dead from a single attack."
His voice softened as he allowed her to support him, his mind already turning toward a more pressing question—why had she reacted like that?
As Chen Mei helped him walk back toward Chen Li and the others, Lin Feng’s thoughts churned, trying to piece together the reason behind her sudden outburst.
"Dang, Big Bro Feng, you just got smacked!" Yan Hao burst into laughter, his voice filled with amusement.
"That’s right, Big Bro! You should’ve seen your face—you looked so shocked!" Yan Li chimed in, doubling over as he laughed even harder.
A loud smack echoed as Huang Bei, standing right behind the twins, brought his hands down on their heads—just like Chen Li had done before.
"You brats, why the hell are you laughing at an injured guy? Don’t you have any shame?" he scolded, though if you looked closely, you could see the corners of his mouth twitching as he tried to hold back a laugh himself.
"Hey! I didn’t mean it—I didn’t expect Lin Feng to do something like that...." Chen Mei’s voice rose in protest, her tone defensive at first.
But as her mind replayed the moment between her and Feng, her words trailed off.
A deep red blush crept across her beautiful face as she fell silent.
Lin Feng, having finally pieced together the reason for his sudden flight, slowly shifted his gaze toward his left hand.
He furrowed his brow, trying to recall the sensation he had felt when he touched Chen Mei.
It was so soft... Are all girls that soft?
His mind drifted, and a dazed expression crossed his face as the realization hit him—he had accidentally touched Chen Mei’s ample breasts.
Dang it! Of course, she’d be angry. Who wouldn’t be if something like that happened?!
A wave of guilt washed over him as he sneaked a glance at Chen Mei.
To his surprise, she was already looking at him.
For a brief moment, their eyes met—lingering a heartbeat longer than either of them expected—before both quickly looked away.
An odd, unspoken tension settled between them.
Feeling the weight of his guilt, Lin Feng hesitated before leaning in closer.
Lowering his voice, he whispered softly into Chen Mei’s ear.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do that to you. Now I understand why you reacted that way—I shouldn’t have gotten angry so quickly," Feng said, his voice softer as he lowered his head.
It was clear that the incident weighed heavily on him.
I should be the one begging for forgiveness. I can’t believe something like that happened!
The guilt gnawed at him again as the memory of what had happened flashed through his mind.
Just as he opened his mouth to apologize again, Chen Mei spoke first.
"It’s fine... I know it was an accident. I’m sorry for hurting you like that," she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
She looked vulnerable—like a startled deer caught in headlights. A rosy blush burned across her face, spreading down to her fair, white neck.
Feng lifted his gaze, watching her carefully.
Chen Mei, however, refused to meet his eyes. Instead, she stared straight ahead, as if avoiding his gaze on purpose.
Why isn’t she angrier? Feng wondered, confusion swirling inside him.
With the kind of thing he had done—even if it was an accident—he had expected her to lash out more. Yet, for some reason, she hadn’t.
Before he could voice his thoughts, a familiar voice cut through the awkward silence.
"Well, well... what are you two whispering about?" Chen Li’s voice rang out, his tone light and teasing.
His eyes, however, were fixed on Chen Mei, a knowing smirk playing at his lips.
"Aigh, little girl, you should be careful," Chen Li said, his voice dripping with mock concern.
"Talented men like this young fellow here are bound to have women fighting over them." His eyes gleamed with mischief as he tried to provoke Chen Mei.
Chen Mei took a deep breath, willing herself to stay calm.
The blush on her face slowly faded, but the slight tremor in her voice betrayed her lingering embarrassment.
"Uncle Chen, you shouldn’t tease me—you know it isn’t like that," she said hurriedly, stealing a quick, nervous glance at Lin Feng before turning her attention to the others.
Stopping in front of the group, she straightened her posture, doing her best to regain her composure.
"You two," she addressed the twins, "help your Big Bro Lin Feng. He’s still recovering."
Without waiting for their reaction, she shifted her gaze back to Chen Li, her tone firmer now.
"Uncle Chen, we should head back."
