Heavenly Rebellion: The Human Race's Rise to Prominence -
Chapter 86: Clues
Chapter 86: Clues
"Could there have been a conflict between the previous civilization in the Eastern Territories and the Church of Heaven?"
Feng’s mind reeled from the revelation.
Though he had no concrete proof to support his conjecture, his instincts screamed that he was on the right path.
"Let’s assume this is true, and the ancient civilization lost to the Church of Heaven. Was that ancient civilization good, or were they evil?"
This question immediately popped into his mind as soon as he learned about the two opposing factions and that there was probably an underlying reason for their conflict.
"Putting aside my natural dislike for the Church of Heaven, I don’t actually have enough proof to judge whether they are good or evil.
This means I shouldn’t automatically assume the Church are the bad guys and the ancient civilization are the good guys—unless I want to be a hypocrite."
Feng shook his head, feeling a headache coming on as he tried to figure out the truth of the situation without any real clues.
"Whatever. This is just another thing I shouldn’t worry about since I’m still too weak to do anything anyways," he thought, reminding himself that he was only at the 6th level of Qi Condensation.
"I should just focus on breaking through and doing my best to reach Foundation Establishment as soon as possible," Feng thought, clenching his fist, his eyes burning with determination.
Chen Mei, noticing that Feng was lost in thought, suddenly pouted her lips.
She placed her hands on her hips and spoke out, looking like she had been wronged.
"Hey! Do you know how rare it is for this young miss to explain herself to someone else? You should be more grateful, don’t you think?" she said, sounding like a wife who had been ignored for days.
Feng, seeing her reaction, felt a bit embarrassed.
He scratched his head before replying, "Sorry, I just realized something after hearing what you said. I got too caught up in my own thoughts to notice."
Chen Mei, who had previously worn an aggrieved expression because she thought she was being ignored, quickly forgot about those feelings as her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"What is it? Why don’t you tell me, and maybe I can give you a bit of enlightenment!" she said.
Despite her childish behavior, Feng suspected she was actually someone who was very well-read—a trait that seemed to contradict her playful nature.
Feng thought for a few seconds about what to ask before he finally spoke, remembering something deeply connected to his own well-being.
"Based on what you told me, there was probably a conflict in a previous era between this ancient civilization and the Church of Heaven. If that’s true, is there anyone you know of who was particularly powerful during that time?
Someone who was at the very least far stronger than the Foundation Establishment Stage?" Feng asked, his tone serious. It was clear this question deeply concerned him.
When Chen Mei heard the first part of what Lin Feng said, she was shocked.
She hadn’t expected him to read between the lines and figure out that a war had happened in the Eastern Territories a long time ago as she thought
"I guess this guy is also pretty sharp"
She was about to respond excitedly when the second part of his question made her pause in confusion as the it seemed completely unrelated to his first point, she didn’t understand why Feng would care about something like that.
"Someone really strong? At least above the Foundation Establishment Stage? That’s too broad for me to give you any concrete information. Even within Silverpine City, I know of at least a few people who are above the Foundation Establishment realm," Chen Mei replied, tilting her head. It was clear she didn’t understand why Lin Feng was so interested in this.
Lin Feng furrowed his brow, trying his best to recall the feeling he had when he first came into contact with the altar and received the system.
"When I first got the system, a voice spoke in my head—some old fogey who seemed incredibly strong. Stronger than anyone I’ve ever met so far. Although that doesn’t say much, it’s still a start."
"When I touched the altar, it felt ancient, so it must have been there for a long time. If we assume that the old fogey was the one who created it, then he’s probably someone who lived ages ago.
And yet, somehow, he survived, merged with the altar, and gave me the system!"
Feng’s eyes shone with clarity as he suddenly thought about asking the system a question about this.
However, he paused, realizing the system probably wouldn’t answer—or if it did, it would just give some vague reply about not revealing anything related to the destiny of the human race.
Yet, contrary to his expectations, a mechanical voice rang through his head:
[The system cannot answer any questions regarding the identity of the previous owner.]
"Eh? That’s new. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that answer before," Feng thought to himself, feeling a bit curious.
Although he had already suspected that the voice he heard belonged to the system’s previous owner, having it confirmed still filled him with excitement.
"I guess that old fogey really was the previous owner of the system! If he had something this amazing, then he was probably someone important, right?
Maybe if I go to a library or something, I can learn more about him myself instead of constantly asking other people about it and risking them finding out about my secrets."
Lin Feng felt a surge of excitement at his new goal.
His eyes sparkled as he was about to subtly continue his conversation with Chen Mei to try and find out more, but before he could speak, Chen Li—who had already previously warned them about talking about these kinds of things in public suddenly spoke up again.
"Lin Feng, Chen Mei, even though the things you’re talking about aren’t directly related to the church, I still don’t suggest that you talk about it out here in the open.
Again, you never know who might be listening." Chen Li spoke once more, but this time in a much more reprimanding voice, clearly this was something that he was deeply worried about.
