Chapter 72: The Twins Talent
Unfortunately, Feng didn’t get the answer he was looking for.
"No, it’s not possible to cultivate even if you have a spirit body but lack a Heaven’s Pact," Huang Bei said, shaking his head.
"For something like that to even be possible, you’d need multiple spirit bodies at once, which is basically impossible.
And even if you did have something like that, you’d need an anchor to prevent your spiritual energy from contradicting each other.
If you don’t have one and try to absorb any level of spiritual energy from the world, the backlash would cripple both your cultivation base and your physical body, stopping you from ever cultivating again."
Lin Feng sighed, clearly disappointed, and thought to himself, I guess there really is no way.
Even he wasn’t sure why he was so obsessed with finding a way for those without Heaven’s Pacts to cultivate.
Maybe it was because he knew what it felt like to be a broken soul.
Maybe he just wanted everyone to have a chance to cultivate—to grow stronger, to take control of their own future.
Or maybe he simply resented how the Heavenly Dao seemed so indifferent to those who weren’t chosen.
Once again, a lowly Qi Condensation cultivator like me is thinking of ways to break the rules of the Heavenly Dao—the rules everyone follows without question.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m just too optimistic for my own good... or simply an idiot.
Before he could even think about it, Lin Feng asked the system a question.
"Hey system, if I had five spirit bodies at once, would I be able to cultivate without a Heaven’s Pact if I had your help?"
For a few seconds, there was no response.
It was as if the system was considering an answer that would satisfy Lin Feng. Finally, it replied.
[The system is unable to answer any questions related to the destiny of the human race.]
When Feng heard that, his eyes narrowed.
Though the system didn’t directly give him an answer, the fact that it didn’t outright reject his suggestion meant it probably had a way to allow someone with five spirit bodies to cultivate.
He wasn’t sure how it related to destiny, though.
Why do I even keep thinking about these things?
Feng thought as he pushed the thoughts aside.Even if he knew the answer, he was too weak to do anything about it right now, so he continued listening to Huang Bei’s explanation.
"I don’t know why you’d even ask that kind of question, but I’ll pretend I didn’t hear it.
I don’t want any trouble coming my way," Huang Bei said, shaking his head.
Clearly, there were unspoken rules in the world of cultivation—one of them being to never question the status quo unless you wanted to be branded a heretic by the orthodox religion of the Eastern Territories.
"Anyway, I guess you now understand what a Poison Spirit Body can do. It allows the Young Miss to absorb poison-type spiritual energy from the world at a much faster rate.
She’s also immune to nearly all poisons and can even use them to enhance her cultivation base.
I’ve seen her eat Poison Spirit Lilies as snacks," Huang Bei shivered, the memory still unsettling him despite it happening long ago.
Yan Hao and Yan Li, who had been listening in on the conversation, also shivered.
Yan Hao was the first to speak.
"Eating Poison Spirit Lilies as snacks? Isn’t just one of those enough to kill a cultivator at the 5th level of Qi Condensation instantly? Was she really just eating them for fun?"
Yan Li chimed in, "This Young Miss is clearly not someone to be trifled with. I can’t believe she eats poison for dessert... is she some kind of poison-type spiritual beast?"
Yet, the moment they finished speaking, a cold chill ran down their spines.
Looking up, they saw the very person they were talking about staring at them, an enigmatic smile on her lips.
Her purple eyes made her look breathtakingly beautiful—yet instead of comfort, they felt their teeth chatter as a deep fear settled in, making their knees go weak.
"I hope the two of you work for Uncle Chen Lin. If not, you’re not going to have a very good time," she said, still smiling, though her eyes glittered with anger.
Clearly, she wasn’t pleased about having such things said behind her back.
When Yan Hao and Yan Li heard those words, they looked like they had seen ghosts.
The pressure bearing down on them was so overwhelming they nearly collapsed.
Neither had expected Chen Mei to hear them while she was so focused on dealing with Chen Yang.
"Did you two seriously just pick a fight with the Young Miss of the Chen Clan right after offending the other Young Master? Are you both complete idiots?" Huang Bei shook his head, feeling no pity for the twins.
To him, whatever happened next was entirely their own fault.
When Yan Hao and Yan Li heard Huang Bei’s words, they looked like they were about to cry.
Without hesitation, they prostrated themselves on the ground and pleaded, "We meant no offense, Young Miss! We were mere frogs at the bottom of the well, never realizing we were looking at Mt. Tai all along!"
Seeing the twins groveling with tears in their eyes, a sliver of guilt flashed through Chen Mei’s gaze.
Though she had seemed furious, she had only wanted to scare them a little to vent her anger.
She had never actually intended to punish them—especially since she, of course, knew they worked for her Uncle Chen Lin.
"All right, stop your crying. Though I don’t know if those tears are real, considering how quickly you dropped to the ground, I’ll let bygones be bygones," Chen Mei said, speaking a bit too fast as she tried to mask her guilt with an air of anger.
The moment Yan Hao and Yan Li realized they were forgiven, their tears vanished instantly.
They jumped to their feet, bowed at the waist, and declared, "We thank Big Sis Chen Mei for her kindness! Big Sis Chen Mei is the epitome of beauty and unparalleled under the heavens!"
When Lin Feng heard what the twins were saying, his jaw dropped.
He had never expected these two brothers to have such a talent—it was clear they were highly skilled at... flattery.
Huang Bei noticed the look on Feng’s face and shook his head before saying, "Why do you think these two brothers are working for Uncle Chen Lin? Of course, they buttered their way to the top!"
