Chapter 51: The Five Major Guilds

The room was silent as everyone looked at Edgar with serious expressions on their faces.

Gabriel recognized most of those present as ones who had newly awakened their class, as they seemed relatively young—around the age of 16 to 18.

He had stepped in just as the class was starting. As soon as he entered, heads turned toward him since he was the last to arrive.

The instructor walked in, wearing an angry glare, as if he didn’t like people interrupting his class.

To avoid sticking out like a sore thumb, Gabriel quickly found a seat and sat down.

Once everyone was seated, the instructor nodded and began. "I know most of you already know, my name is Edgar DarkMore, a Hero Rank adventurer who isn’t affiliated with any guild."

Because most already knew this information, it wasn’t shocking—but what they felt was awe and admiration.

A Hero Rank might seem achievable in the eyes of a normal citizen, but in reality, it was extremely difficult.

The requirements for the first advancement were already crazy enough to fulfill, and the second was even more horrendous to complete.

In his past life, because he had joined the game late, Gabriel’s level had only reached 100 after completing his second advancement quest at level 99.

That was why he never dared to underestimate any Hero Rank—they were literal walking disasters.

The newbies knew this too and held Edgar in high esteem.

"As you all might already know, I’ve made it my goal to enlighten each batch of newly Awakened about how the world works and the Five Major Guilds," Edgar explained.

Gabriel remained calm, despite knowing this was a cover-up. The real reason Edgar volunteered for this every time was to hide his identity and to project the image of a benevolent adventurer.

He began talking about the history of the world.

He spoke in a steady, deep tone. "Thousands of years ago, humans lived peaceful lives. No classes. No monsters. Just the old ways—farming, wars, kings, and coin."

"But that all changed when the mutation began. No one knew how it started. Some say it fell from the stars, while others believed it was punishment from the divine beings."

He paused for dramatic effect.

"What we do know is that it started small—rats with glowing eyes, wolves growing abnormally large and acquiring strange skills... even birds that could cast lightning."

"Eventually, the world could no longer pretend it was normal. The infected beasts multiplied, evolved, and began attacking cities. Millions died."

"Fortunately for humanity, during that period of crisis, the nameless entity arrived—commonly known as The System. It granted humans a chance to fight back."

Someone suddenly raised a hand and asked timidly, "Was the System created by a human?"

Gabriel narrowed his eyes. That was something he didn’t know either, but he had a strange feeling that the developers of Realm of Ascendency knew something about it.

"No... we don’t know how it came to be. It’s not something a human could create. We like to believe it’s a force of the universe itself—one that makes rules and governs all sentient beings."

"Phew, that’s a relief. Now I won’t be scared some creep is reading my mind," someone muttered, and a few people nearby chuckled.

A stern look from Edgar instantly silenced the noise-maker, and they quickly quieted down.

He continued, "As more people awakened, power was no longer held by kings and governments, but by guilds. These guilds are found in each kingdom, both in human and non-human continents."

"But for now, we’ll only talk about the guilds in the Valerian Kingdom."

Everyone leaned forward slightly at that. After all, they all aspired to become part of a guild one day.

"Most of you don’t know, but the Five Greats are as old as the Vermilion Kingdom itself. They have long legacies and histories that make them the most respected organizations."

"Their influence is second only to the King."

---

"In first place, and without doubt the oldest—founded by King Alveron himself—we have Olympus."

"Olympus doesn’t just lead in rank. Their leader, the Champion Rank Ares Durnhold, is known as the Magic Tyrant. His control over magic is so precise... he once turned an entire battlefield into a flaming wasteland, and every enemy died with a clean hole through their hearts."

A few students exchanged glances, their eyes wide with silent admiration.

"Olympus is unbeatable," a student boasted loudly, puffing out his chest.

Another, a wiry girl near the front, scoffed. "Crimson Star’s Lilith could kill Ares before he casts a spell."

Edgar raised a brow, his gaze shifting to the back of the room. "Care to defend that, latecomer?"

All eyes turned to Gabriel. He leaned back in his chair, voice low but steady. "Guilds don’t win by strength alone. It’s politics. Olympus has the King’s ear."

The room went quiet, some students exchanging uneasy glances. Edgar’s frown deepened, his eyes lingering on Gabriel for a moment too long before he cleared his throat. "An... interesting perspective. Let’s move on."

"In second place, we have the Holy Church, led by Pope Valen D’Mond—another Champion Rank." When he said those words, Gabriel couldn’t help but notice the slight trace of hatred in Edgar’s tone.

To further prove his point, Edgar didn’t linger long and continued. "In third place, we have the Crimson Star."

"Their leader, the Hero Rank Lilith Valentine, doesn’t use flashy spells or overwhelming strength. She’s an assassin. No... the assassin."

He let the words hang.

"They call her the Silent Whisper. If she marks you... not even your shadow will make it out alive. Once, she infiltrated an enemy guild and killed seven core executives—all without being seen once."

"In fourth place, we have the Martial Palace, led by Champion Rank Bai Tian. It’s a guild that strictly accepts only martial artists. They are one of the oldest guilds, and their headquarters is in the Tianlan Kingdom—the homeland of martial arts—with branches spread all over the human continent."

"Bai Tian is known for his powerful attacks, which are capable of splitting mountains. He is one of the few who have completed their fifth class advancement."

Someone near the front whispered, "That’s not even human anymore..."

Gabriel remembered this guild very well. In the Vermilion Kingdom, they were second to last, but because of their many branches, they were highly influential and considered one of the best guilds on the continent.

"Last but not least, we have the White Flame Guild, led by the Hero Rank Bryce Park—a powerful warrior with unbelievable strength stats, capable of tearing a vehicle apart with his bare hands."

After the brief introduction to the world and the guild system, the class for the day ended, and everyone began to leave the hall with low, respectful bows to Edgar.

As the last students slipped out, their murmurs fading, Gabriel remained seated, his eyes fixed on Edgar.

"You know too much for a freshly awakened, boy," Edgar said, in a low and suspicious voice. "Who sent you here?"
