Chapter 42: Disrupted
Chapter 42: Disrupted
His eyes flickered with a glint of understanding.
"I see. It makes sense." He looked at the sheet of paper where he had been trying to do it, and the scattered threads, he no longer knew which ones he was using.
But for the third time, he tried to make the Rune of Power. This time, choosing a variety of different Threads to make them. He calculated the size of each section of the Power Rune to use the appropriate threads.
Since this was the third time he had tried it, he was able to speed up the process, but choosing threads and maintaining accuracy were complicated, so halfway through, he suddenly slowed down.
He had reached the most complicated sections of the Fabric; he needed to be more careful and choose correctly the threads to use. This had some complexity, as choosing the wrong one would mean increasing the work he had to do and, in the midst of the complexity of a Rune formation, could cause the Rune to explode.
Thanks to Laura’s suggestion, he got closer and closer to completing it. He believed that if he completed the rune, the connections would not be much of a problem. They are only connections, after all.
He passed the place where he failed the first time, and also where he failed the second time, due to a lack of control. Soon, he was facing uncharted territory.
A turning point that formed the Rune as a kind of triangle with a cross, but somewhat inverted and upside down. This strange figure was to be connected to the whole Rune, so, although it was large and yet small, it had to reach each side.
He had to choose the longest thread he could and slowly drew it over the Rune...
His eyes shone when he realized that he was about to succeed in this complicated region.
While he would be a little short after that, achieving it would already be a breakthrough in creation.
It was then that he realized why it was called Elemental Magification. A certain amount of elemental information from the rune began to transmit to him.
He felt the fire magic transmit between his hands to his brain and from his brain to his inner self. To the mana.
He had never been to this point before, so the information was slightly distracting, but he quickly understood what it meant. He was learning and improving in Arkanoesis Magic.
So he concentrated even more...
BAM*
Suddenly, the thundering sound of the door opening and slamming rang out.
At such a crucial moment, Louis was startled by the sudden sound and swerved slightly...
Then the Rune exploded again. Every carefully chosen thread was dispersed for more than 30 minutes.
Louis was stunned, staring at the rune that had once been on his paper and had now torn him completely.
He couldn’t help but frown.
He was angry.
He looked up simultaneously as Laura, who was also angry.
She couldn’t help but get upset when she saw those who had come in.
"What do you think you’re doing? It was a crucial moment! Coming into our facility like that breaks Academy rules!"
Although she rarely gets angry, when she does, it’s scary.
Her beautiful, bright white hair even began to float, as if by magic.
The men who entered were four in number. They wore one of the academy uniforms, a bit exclusive.
Louis could recognize them because Hardrial had explained something about it, though not much.
Three of them wore the distinguished uniforms of the Academy’s Top 50, which included the 50 strongest students. He did not know how they were chosen, but they were powerful.
While one of them wore the robes of the Top21.
On their chests rested a badge that recognized them as strong people, but Louis ignored it in this case.
The garments were not too different. While the students’ common attire is white and blue with no distinctions, those of the Top50 are white with black, and the distinctions increase as they approach the Top10.
These distinctions are nothing more than small honorary bands or gold ornaments.
The three weakest had no real distinctions. But the other one had a gold button and an honorary band.
Someone respectable in the Academy.
He was the one who opened the door with a bang, and when he saw the closeness between the new guy and Laura, he frowned.
"Hehe, I was just dropping by to say hello for a bit, Miss Laura. I’m sorry for that." He said and walked over. "I didn’t expect to find you so close to a man. Should that be cause for festivities at the academy?" he smiled.
Laura frowned and stepped forward, putting herself between Louis and the incoming group.
"You guys are not welcome on our premises." She spoke. "So, beat it. We’re busy."
He frowned and looked at her. But he could say nothing.
Then he looked at Louis.
"Can’t I meet the new student? I hear he possibly has some absurd status. They say he came in the back door halfway through the course. That’s amazing, you know?"
"Back door entry is a dignified thing?" one of the three behind asked. "Although it shows status... within the academy, no matter what status you have, it’s no good."
Their leader laughed. "Hahaha, well, well, don’t say that. Even if it doesn’t do any good, doesn’t he still have a great status outside? That’s what we need to look at to make friendships." He looked at Louis, ignoring Laura. "Isn’t that right, little budd? Don’t you go out and introduce yourself? We’re good people."
Louis glared at him. He was still angry that they had interrupted him at a crucial moment.
But here was something.
None of them took Laura’s words seriously. They ignored her completely.
’Is it because they are powerful?’ He thought, as he looked at the uniforms once again.
Still, he shrugged.
"I think you know quite a bit about me, since you’ve been staring at me since you walked in. You should even know my name. So, what am I going to introduce myself for? I think you should do it, in that case." He replied.
"Oh." The leader of the four smiled self-deprecatingly. "You’ve got a good eye. I thought the new guy was just some idiot who came in the back door. I underestimated you. I apologize." He lowered his head a little and extended his hand toward Louis.
"My name is John Risgar Dunloc, of the Dunloc of Risgar."
Louis saw his hand extended toward him and decided to shake it. But as he did so, a mischievous smile appeared on John’s lips, and he retracted his hand, as if he wanted to yawn instead of greeting him.
Louis noticed it in time. He didn’t trust them, so a mischievous grin also appeared on his face.
’You asked for it.’
Then his hand, with the same natural movement with which he started to move, moved to Laura’s waist and hugged her a little towards him.
She was suddenly shocked to find herself drawn into his arms and chest, but Louis smiled.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Dunloc. I hope we get along well from now on." A mischievous smile blossomed behind the mischievous grin.
