Chapter 41: Offer

Hardrial nodded. "That’s right. The Magic World is vast and complicated because it demands perfection. But don’t blame yourself. It’s very difficult to make those patterns, so if it takes you this long to get it wrong, it’s already a good sign. You just need to improve your speed, and everything will be fine." He spoke.

"I’ll leave you studying those three power runes for the rest of the time. There will be no more classes for today, so you can study here or go train somewhere else. Miss Laura, I hope you can teach Louis a little bit about how each step is performed correctly."

"That’s fine." She nodded. "Will you go talk to the president of the Academy?"

"Yes. If he calls me so strongly, I assume the subject is important. I’ll be back when I’m done, and if you’re still around, I can help you with whatever you need."

After that, Hardrial gave Louis some more advice on what he should do and left the classroom.

Outside, Professor Niles was still waiting for him, so he went after him as soon as he saw him appear.

They both walked toward the Academy’s Main Tower, where the Academy President and other high-ranking people were waiting.

"Sir Hardrial, long time no see, what happened? You’ve been a long time coming." The president stood up with a smile and invited him to sit down.

"President Miroc, long time no see." Hardrial greeted. "You caught me at a bad time, as I was teaching my new student some important concepts of magic fabric construction. But I came as soon as I could."

His words caused a few people in the room to frown, including the Academy’s vice president.

"Making the president wait just for a student? What is this disrespect?" growled one of them. The man was of impressive status—he was the Third Board Member—and he was only behind Miroc and the Vice President among those present.

Hardrial continued to stare at Miroc. "I’m sorry if I kept you waiting, President Miroc. You know how I am, " he said.

Miroc Ealsara frowned and looked at his companion, as if to say, can’t you shut up for a moment? Causing him to fall silent.

"Haha." Miroc seemed to apologize with a strange hollow laugh. "Don’t worry, Sir Hardrial. I greatly respect your devotion to teaching and no doubt your name will go down in history as one of the most influential Armamentalists."

"Thank you, President Miroc." Hardrial replied. "To what do I owe your call? The fact that much of the Board of Leaders is here is a big thing about the Academy, isn’t it?" he asked.

Miroc nodded. ’This man always likes to speak bluntly and without embellishment. It’s hard to be polite to him.’ He sighed internally, but smiled on the outside.

"In 2 months, the Tournament of the Ascended kicks off, as we need to begin the Battle of the Hierarchies so we can compete with the rest of the Empire Cities for the greatest team..." Miroc took out some documents and placed them on the table.

"Will you want to participate this time? Miss Laura was talented enough at the time to earn a place within the Top 10. Now I think she will be able to move up several more ports. If it’s okay with you, we’d like her to be on the team representing the..."

"Mr. Miroc." Hardrial suddenly interrupted him, knowing what the conversation would lead to. "If I decide that my classroom will participate, my student Laura will earn the spot through her own efforts." He replied firmly, cutting off everything he wanted to say.

Everyone present did not utter a word after hearing this until Professor Niles spoke up.

"Professor Hardrial." He said, snapping to attention. "May I remind you that without this, your dear student will never be able to put her name on that mural." He said, tentatively.

"Hehe." Hardrial scoffed. "Says who? You?"

"No, not me." Niles smiled. "My Three Stars say so. Do you think Miss Laura can beat them? Without her putting her name on there, I’m afraid your status as a teacher..."

Niles’ smirk at the end said it all.

Hardrial knew it too, but turned his attention away from him and looked at Miroc.

"I recently got a new student, President Miroc. So I will participate in the Tournament. My two students will earn whatever place they achieve with pure effort. Whether or not I can put my name on that mural, let fate determine." He said, stood up, put on his top hat, and turned to leave.

"With your permission, I will leave. My students need their classes not to be interrupted." After that, he left, leaving the room in an eerie murmuring silence.

"Hehe, brother, looks like he refused your kindness." Said the vice president with a sneer at the president.

Miroc shrugged, not responding for several minutes.

"The Three Stars are about to graduate, and the Senior Star is obsessed with that girl. I wanted to help him get her, " he said.

"Haha, you didn’t expect him to be so stubborn, right?"

"Well, nothing to do with such stubborn people who won’t accept kindness from others." He sighed. "I suppose it’s not for nothing that he’s one of the most powerful men in the kingdom." He grumbled.

"Hahaha..."

Miroc looked at Professor Niles and nodded at him. "Go back. Get your boys ready for the Tournament, and remember to tell them that the Battle of the Hierarchies is near."

"Okay." Niles nodded. "I assure you all that the three of them will leave you with a good taste in your mouths before they graduate, giving us a victory against the North and the Capital."

"Haha, well. Good luck then."

After that, Niles left.

Miroc looked at the third Board member and nodded to him. "Waste Hardrial’s time." He spoke.

At first, the man didn’t understand what he was referring to. But after a moment’s thought, he smiled. He got up and left.

When Professor Hardrial left, Laura and Louis were left learning together, facing each other.

Laura understood these Power Runes well, and although she didn’t speak often, she was incredibly articulate when she found a topic she liked.

"Since you can see the Arkanometric Flow, can you tell me if there are longer and shorter threads? I think that might help you employ it." She said suddenly, after showing him a more straightforward way to make these Power Runes.

Louis didn’t understand what she was referring to, but looked at the threads moving smoothly everywhere.

There were threads on the wood, the walls, and the curtains—everything seemed to be held together by these threads.

"...Well, some are a little longer than others. But I also think that, if I use magic, I could lengthen these short threads with more effort." He replied.

Laura nodded with a big smile. "Yes, the second thing is the way it is normally used. Have you noticed that parts of the Power Rune are longer than others and that all the connections are much longer than the Power Rune?"

"I have noticed that."

"So, since you can see the type of thread you are using, why don’t you better use the longer threads at those times instead of using the standard we all use for lengthening them? We use it that way because we can’t see it, but if you can...maybe it would make it easier for you?" She suggested.
