Chapter 43: First Arkanometric Fabric

Chapter 43: First Arkanometric Fabric

John’s body shuddered. His body tensed, and his brow furrowed. He hadn’t expected this person to be so good at bold answers.

’This bastard...’

Despite being annoyed, he calmed down soon after and smiled at him.

"Haha, well, well, well. I hope we get along well then. I just hope you’re not the kind of person who sticks your nose where it doesn’t belong and touches what you shouldn’t. There are a lot of dangerous people out there, you know? You’re talented, don’t die over a silly thing." He spoke.

"Oh." He raised his hand and looked at the clock. "Too late. Looks like we have to go."

"I apologize, Miss Laura and Mr. Louis. We have an important class right now, so we won’t be staying to chat. I hope to see you again soon. You should take care of yourselves. There have been some strange people at the Academy lately, with this new student thing. Sigh."

Clearly uncomfortable with what had happened, John turned away without much more to say and left.

Somehow, this confused Louis even more. Was they just leaving? He wanted to accomplish that, but he didn’t think they were leaving, just leaving a minor threat between his words.

What were they planning?

Laura looked at Louis’ arm, still hugging her, and carefully removed it, though she smiled.

"You seem to be an expert at understanding people." She spoke.

Louis smiled and returned to his seat. "I’ve had to learn to study people. The one time I failed at that, I made a mistake I still regret."

"Haha, but this time you failed. Though... should I say you failed successfully, in your mission?" She sat down across from him again.

"Hm? What do you mean, Miss Laura?" Confused, he asked.

"You did that to anger him, judging that he was after me. And although you succeeded in angering him, to the point that he had to leave when he was embarrassed, the reality is that he wasn’t angered by him. He was angry for his master."

"Master?"

"Yes. That boy has a Master. He’s the one behind me. He probably just ran to tell him that another man touched me. I’m afraid you’ll be in trouble." She smiled a little slyly.

Although Louis was surprised, it was no big deal. In the end, he shrugged and looked down at the parchment he was studying with.

"Whatever he got mad about, I didn’t do it to defend you. Nor to make him jealous." He said, noticing that, in her gaze, she seemed to think so.

And he was right. She was a little stunned by his answer.

"Then why?" she asked.

"I’m not going to lose to an idiot a little teasing game like that." He said as he turned up to look at her, and continued. "Besides, I needed him to leave. I don’t have much time to learn this."

Then he looked back down at his parchment. "I don’t care about the rest. I have nothing with you, why would I get involved in your relationships?"

His plain and simple answer, which held no emotion towards her, left her in shock.

Suddenly, her self-confidence seemed to drop drastically.

She initially thought she had attracted this guy so much that he didn’t mind getting into trouble, just to draw a strange line of territory and sovereignty over her. Many men tended to do so.

But... It seems she had thought too much of herself. He didn’t even think about it. He just wanted to go back to studying.

Her beauty was tossed aside and barely used to drive away an idiot!

Her pride felt slightly wounded.

Although she is a smart girl, she was soon able to understand that this was the norm. Seeing how he has been in the few days she has seen him reveals a carefree nature and personality, and he has little interest in things that forcibly divert him from his path.

He is not weak. In Hardrial’s words, he is pretty strong and has impressive talent.

That’s why she was able to accept it and smile.

’Interesting.’ She thought, looking at him.

Then she decided to continue helping him, and so an hour passed, until finally Hardrial returned.

Finding them still in the classroom, he began to help and explain.

Knowing what they had both discovered that would be useful to Louis made him happy.

’Two geniuses together will always have things to add to the given equations. That saying holds true for them very well.’ He thought, watching their interaction, which stretched into the afternoon...

Four hours later, past noon, Hardrial and Laura looked at Louis in shock. He was fully focused on what he was doing.

His hand was moving slightly faster on the paper, where he was creating that same Rune of Power.

The one of Fire.

But this time, he was deftly approaching completing it, for the first time.

The information coming from the Rune was transmitted to his mind. He began to learn magic from the best teacher: the Logic-Magic Mesh.

The more he advanced, the more he understood about this fire magic, and the easier it became for him to understand it. In the final stages, he even felt the heat transmitting between his fingers, rapidly drawing this arkanometric fabric.

Suddenly, he connected the last thread of the Rune with the central part of it, and his mind finally understood everything the rune wanted to tell him: it was teaching him the most efficient way to complete it.

With that, he moved his attention quickly to the connections. These were not so problematic.

They were long strands that occasionally formed triangles but were not complicated. As he did so, he could foresee that some future Runes would surely give him a lot of trouble on these connections, but he had no problems on this one.

In less than 15 minutes, he completed almost the entire rune.

Only one thread was missing.

’I have to use it.’ His mind whirred, and he immediately drew his pistol.

In his hands, the silver color with gold trim shone in the honey light of the setting sun. Then his hand moved over the trigger. He held the gun steady and, with it, chose the last thread to use.

Then he moved it to completion, using the gun itself. It was not necessary to do so, but he wanted to do it this way.

After completing it, the Arkanometric Fabric glowed with a red intensity. Immediately, Louis drew the gun, aimed at a chair, and fired.

The sound of the shot did not sound like the ones he had made before. Although there was a resonating sound similar to a normal gunshot, among it was intermingled a sound of terrifying fire, shooting out.

The rune had embedded itself in the bullet to be used, and when it hit the other side, the chair was pierced, and fire soon engulfed it, trying to burn it.

In 30 seconds, the fire consumed the reinforced wooden chair and turned it into a pile of ashes.

Then the magical effect passed.

[You have learned the first of the three Basic Arkanometric Fabrics]

[Keep up the effort].
