Chapter 97: Talking Cat
They didn’t wait there but quickly headed towards Hunter City. However, upon their arrival, they sensed that the city was already on high alert. It appeared that news of the thousand mountain forests had reached and alerted the authorities.
Numerous soldiers, accompanied by powerful warriors, patrolled the streets. The city was prepared for war. They arrived at the Hunter Guild branch, which was more crowded than ever due to the recent developments in the Thousand Mountain Forest.
Apollo wanted to learn more about the situation, but it seemed even the Hunter Guild was unaware of anything. They sent powerful elders to make contact with the monster Beast Generals.
Becoming a Beast General is equivalent to transcending the fourth rank limit-breaker of the human path. These beasts are capable of direct communication, much like any other intelligent being.
He also learned that all jobs related to hunting or exploring in the Thousand Mountain Forest were cancelled. So, Apollo and Reid went to the Hunter Guild’s trading post to sell the loot they had collected.
They were greeted by a beautiful young woman who looked a bit surprised to see a cute white cat with them, but she remained professional and didn’t ask any questions. Because their loot was quite substantial, they were led to a separate room. Apollo quickly unloaded everything he had acquired—horns, fur, claws, and more—surprising the female worker.
"’So much!" she exclaimed, surprised by the quantity of things. ’I will need some time to sort through all of this.’
"Sir, would you like to wait for some time while I sort out all the things here?"
"Alright, we will wait," Apollo and Reid replied. They followed her as she led them to a fully furnished, extravagant waiting room.
"Sir, please wait here. We will do everything as quickly as possible." After that, she left them in the waiting room.
The room was filled with the sweet fragrance of drinks and various expensive fruits that were difficult for many people to obtain. The white cat, like a sneaky little guy, quickly jumped onto the table and ate happily. But they didn’t have to wait long; within ten minutes, she returned with a list of the materials he had brought and their prices.
"Sir, here’s the list of the things you brought and the prices we can offer. If there are no issues with the prices, we can settle the deal," the female worker of the trading store said quickly, with a bright smile, as she showed them the list.
Apollo smiled confidently, but Reid showed no expression; in fact, he appeared nervous. Despite receiving respect from her, he knew she was much stronger than him. Even a basic position in the Hunter Guild seemed like a distant dream for him.
It was Apollo’s presence that allowed him to experience expert treatment for the first time in his life.
Apollo glanced at the list and prices, though he didn’t understand much. Ultimately, he showed it to Reid, who had a better understanding and nodded in agreement with the price.
"Okay, deal!"
He felt great, as the total amount of all his loot was quite impressive—crossing ten thousand gold coins. To be exact, it was 11,080 gold coins.
The amount of gold coins wasn’t small. In fact, it exceeded the annual income of the Fletcher family, and he had earned it within just two days.
The currency ranged from low to high, divided into copper coins, silver coins, and gold coins.
One hundred copper coins equalled one silver coin, and ten silver coins equalled one gold coin.
To put it in perspective, you could buy a piece of bread with just five copper coins. Therefore, possessing more than eleven thousand gold coins was an astronomical sum for most people, even for nobles.
After they silently left the Hunter’s Guild, having completed selling their goods, he gave a thousand gold coins to Reid and bought a potion from the system shop using ten creation points. This potion would help him open more prana circuits, increasing his strength during such a tense time.
"Thank you, Mr. Apollo, for the money and such a precious potion," Reid said gratefully. Despite not managing to find the Earth Bison for him, he still received such generosity.
"It’s alright. Just take care of your grandfather and yourself," Apollo replied. They then said their goodbyes and went their separate ways, with the white cat continuing to follow him.
Apollo returned to the villa, but his master was absent. Only Old Man Aragon was present, who noticed the peculiar white cat behind Apollo but refrained from asking, assuming it might be a new pet he had acquired.
"Good, you’re back. Your master was a bit troubled, knowing that you were still in the forest," Old Man Aragon greeted Apollo.
After asking around, Apollo learned that his master had gone to the Hunter’s Guild for an urgent meeting of high-level warriors. He knew it must be about the Thousand Mountain Forest and the unusual behaviour of the beasts. Now, he could only wait for his master to return, hoping to learn more.
His master returned late at night, indicating that the discussion had gone on for some time.
"Good, you’re back! Otherwise, it would have been troublesome," Master Aaron said, smiling with relief upon seeing Apollo return, knowing he had been hunting in the Thousand Mountain Forest.
As many beast generals have appeared in the outer region of the forest, they have blocked the area so that neither can go in nor come out. Countless warriors are either trapped there, hiding or have become meals for ferocious beasts.
"Master, what was discussed? Did they find a solution or the reason why the beasts blocked the Thousand Mountain Forest?" Apollo couldn’t wait any longer and asked, eager to know what was happening right now.
"Sigh! There’s not much information, but it seems they’re searching for something or someone. Tomorrow, a group of elders from the Hunter Guild and City Hall will be sent to negotiate with the emerged beast generals."
"Hmm, who are they searching for that they needed such fanfare and to show their strength by blocking the Thousand Mountain Forest?"
Apollo couldn’t help but start to think about it, but suddenly, an ominous feeling crept over him as he thought about the mysterious white cat that had followed him here.
"No way, right? It shouldn’t be related to that white cat."
But the more he thought about it, the more he felt it must be connected to the white cat. Its behaviour and mysterious origin were too strange to ignore.
Master Aaron noticed his apprentice’s changed expression and reassured him, "Don’t worry, kid. The kingdom and the Hunter Guild from other branches will also send reinforcements. Nothing serious will happen, though it might be challenging for hunters to enter the Thousand Mountain Forest for some time."
"Yes, Master. I just remembered something. You must be tired, so I won’t disturb you further. I’ll take my leave now."
With that, Apollo quickly departed and hurried towards the other room.
"What’s gotten into this kid? Why the rush?" Master Aaron pondered, then headed to his room to rest.
Apollo didn’t stop and searched every corner of the villa until he finally found the white cat lying on a bed, sprawled lazily with its legs outstretched.
"Damn you, why are you lying here so lazily? And don’t think I don’t know you can understand my words, you cunning cat."
Apollo moved closer to it, but it continued to lie on the bed, pretending not to hear anything. Apollo was ready to pick it up, but the white cat suddenly opened its eyes and leapt away faster than an average second-rank limit-breaker.
"Hmm, finally showing your true colours," Apollo remarked, not particularly surprised as he had expected as much.
"You should understand my words. Just nod your head when I ask you a question and don’t try to run or hide. This isn’t the Thousand Mountain Forest, but a human city. Many will be interested in you, such a strange creature."
With a serious expression, Apollo threatened the white cat, which looked back at him with surprisingly human-like eyes.
Apollo also drew his sword—not just any ordinary iron blade, but his special sword, ’Frost Star,’ signalling his seriousness.
"Is the commotion in the Thousand Mountain Forest because of you? Just nod your head to tell me."
For a moment, there was absolute silence as Apollo, with his sword drawn, and the cat stared at each other without saying a word. Seeing the white cat show no sign of response, Apollo was about to attack.
"Okay, kid," the cat finally spoke, "you’re smart. You’ve noticed the mighty Tiger King’s unparalleled handsome feline face and understood my secret."
A cocky expression appeared on the cute white cat’s face, which seemed out of place. However, hearing it speak clearly like a human sent shivers down Apollo’s spine in horror.
"Fuck, you can talk?"
He became a bit afraid, as only Beasts General and above strength can talk.
