Chapter 96: A weird cute white cat
Apollo didn’t know what was happening deep within the Thousand Mountain forests, but he and Reid were running to find a hiding place. The forest had become far more dangerous than usual.
Even as they ran, they encountered some troubles, but Apollo quickly took care of them, knowing they weren’t as formidable as the beast soldier wolf.
"Here, I remember there’s a cave where we can hide for the night and leave early tomorrow morning." Reid quickly led him to a small cave concealed in the forest.
The cave was nestled among large bushes and trees, offering ample space for more than two people to hide comfortably.
They quickly went in to hide. Reid used various plants and slightly poisonous herbs, spreading them outside the cave so the beast wouldn’t approach the area.
"So, what do you think made powerful beasts leave their territory?" Apollo asked, unable to contain his curiosity, as they rested. This was Reid’s area of expertise, after all.
"Hmm, it is difficult to say. Those beasts haven’t shown such unexpected behaviour for decades, at least since I started coming here."
"But there could be various reasons. Maybe other beasts challenged the territory’s ruler, and one of them lost. Or perhaps someone made the ruler angry, leading to a rampage. It could even be something random—maybe he was bored. Who knows?"
Reid shared his thoughts, noting that beasts can sometimes show unexpected behaviour, and nobody can be sure of their next moves.
As some of the beasts have survived for thousands of years and ruled their territories, nobody knows if one might suddenly snap and attack others, creating a beast tide. Such events have happened throughout history, causing huge losses.
Although the chances are slim, such things can happen at any time.
Apollo nodded, as what Reid said made sense, and then they quietly waited. Apollo closed his eyes and started to meditate, replaying the memories of his fight against the Red Fire Gang’s first-rank limit breaker.
He wanted to relive the same intense and mysterious feeling, but how could that be easy to experience again? Still, he concentrated on it and contemplated it.
Reid also closed his eyes and calmed down, reflecting on the many things he had seen today and the powerful strength of warriors.
They remained there for an hour, but outside, many hunters in the Thousand Mountain Forest faced countless troubles. Many even died because of the sudden ferocity and the increase in the number of beasts in the forest.
The night had turned murderous as the smell of blood permeated the darkness, making the beasts more violent and berserk, becoming more dangerous than usual.
At that moment, Apollo, inside the cave, opened his eyes in shock. A strange noise had jolted him from deep meditation, and what he saw when he opened his eyes left him in disbelief.
"How did it appear here, even without being noticed by him?"
He saw a small cat with crystal-white fur lying nearby, looking at him with cute, sparkly eyes.
"Meow! Meow!"
"What the hell, why didn’t I feel its presence?" Apollo couldn’t understand. He looked at the white cat carefully. No matter what, even while concentrating on his meditation, he never let his guard down and maintained part of his mind under surveillance. Yet somehow, this cat had evaded his senses.
"Even third-rank limit-breakers cannot evade my senses unless they’ve mastered some unique law specializing in hiding," Apollo mused, surprised. The white cat, whose aura wasn’t even as strong as some of the weakest beasts he had encountered on his way here, somehow managed to evade detection.
"Meow! Meow!"
Reid, awakened by the sound of the cat, couldn’t help but look at the cute white feline beside him.
"Why is a cat here? Did you bring it, Mr. Apollo?" Reid asked, feeling confused.
"I didn’t bring it here; it came on its own. Do you see what kind of beast or cat this is? Have you ever seen a cat like this?" Apollo asked, hoping Reid, who had been moving through these forests for many years, might know more about the white cat.
Reid carefully observed the cat and noticed that it was different from typical forest cats. It had a noble aura, and its fur was spotless, without a speck of dirt on it. It didn’t look like a wild cat that lived in the forest.
"I’ve never seen such a beautiful cat, but it seems quite smart and seems to like you a lot," Reid remarked, noticing how the white cat sat close to Apollo, looking at him with loving, cute eyes and showing no sign of fear in the presence of two unknown humans.
Apollo had already noticed the cat’s peculiar behaviour, but he felt weirded out by why the cat was looking at him like that or why it seemed to like him. He wasn’t narcissistic enough to believe that even beasts would fall for his charms.
He knew it wasn’t an ordinary cat. Although he couldn’t tell precisely, it had deceived his senses, which wasn’t something an ordinary cat could do. Moreover, its survival in the Thousand Mountain Forest with such a weak aura indicated there were more problems at play.
After thinking about it, Apollo tried to throw the cat outside, but it immediately returned to him. He tried two or three times, and each time the small white cat came back.
In the end, he had to admit defeat. He wasn’t sure about the white cat, but killing it seemed too extreme, so he let it stay with him. However, if he sensed any problems from the cat, he wouldn’t hesitate to throw it far away.
He closed his eyes and resumed his meditation, and Reid also closed his eyes to meditate and gather his strength, knowing that the morning wouldn’t be easy.
However, neither Reid nor Apollo noticed the strange glow in the white cat’s eyes or the humane expression that appeared on its face when they finally let it stay with them.
"Haha, I, the one and only mighty White Tiger Lord, am a great genius, easily fooling the stupid humans with my divine skill of cuteness overload eyes. But who is this human kid? Why did I feel the faint primordial breath from him?" The white cat muttered to itself, a cunning smile on its cute face.
"I have to follow him and find out the relationship between them. Maybe, by taking advantage of this era, I can surpass even all the divine beasts."
With that, the white cat lay on the ground, and slowly, time passed by.
The whole night, loud noises, howls, and roars of different beasts reverberated throughout the forest. Even when the sun rose, the smell of blood and the ominous aura covering the forest didn’t diminish much.
"Let’s go."
Apollo and Reid, followed by the cute white cat, left their cave early in the morning and headed out of the Thousand Mountain Forest. The previous night, Apollo had sensed quite a few powerful beast auras, stronger than those of the Beast Soldier Wolf.
The dangers within the forest had become extremely high, so leaving directly was the best option, even if it meant giving up his hunting quest.
They moved fast, with Apollo carefully observing the white cat, which was nimble and quietly following them. Frankly, its behaviour wasn’t like that of a mindless beast; it seemed very smart, almost similar to that of a sneaky human.
But since the white cat didn’t make any suspicious moves, Apollo couldn’t determine if it was dangerous or not.
As they ran, they encountered and killed any beasts that attacked them along the way.
Boom!
Growl! Growl! Roarrr!
A powerful and ferocious aura erupted in the outer region of the Thousand Mountain Forest, causing nearby beasts to tremble in fear. The pressure was so intense that most of the beasts couldn’t move.
Apollo and Reid felt fortunate that they were close to the edge of the forest, where the pressure wasn’t as strong. Still, it caused Reid to tremble, and for the beasts, the aura directly affected their bloodlines, making it even more effective against them than humans.
But the weird white cat around them didn’t seem to be affected at all. The ferocious beast aura that brought most beasts in the outer region of the Thousand Mountain Forest to their knees had no sh*t effect on the seemingly weak, cute white cat at all.
Apollo was growing increasingly curious about the cat’s origin and the secrets it held.
"Damn, they’ve already sent them to find me. It must be the king’s power; only he can track me so quickly. Fortunately, I was faster, and they were still one step behind."
"Haha, I, the mighty White Tiger Lord, am the best in the world. Even one of the Ten Great Kings of the Divine Beasts couldn’t catch me."
The white cat felt proud as it looked at the forest. After running for some time, it followed Apollo and Reid, and they finally emerged safely from the Thousand Mountain Forest.
