Chapter 101: Beast Tide
Chapter 101: Beast Tide
"Everyone gathered here should know that the beast tide is dangerous and deadly, and many of us might die. But still, knowing this, we are all gathered here to fight. I respect all of you who have come knowing this," the blindfolded old man said with a commanding presence. "The beast tide, according to our information, will reach Hunter City in three minutes, so there isn’t time to waste."
His words resonated with the warriors, instilling both fear and resolve. Apollo steadied himself, feeling the weight of the impending battle. He glanced around, seeing the determination in the eyes of those around him, and took a deep breath, preparing himself for the imminent clash.
"The army will be divided into thirty groups, each having around two thousand warriors, and they will be led by the people standing beside me," the blindfolded old man continued.
Apollo didn’t waste any time and quickly joined the group led by his master. Reid and his grandfather also joined the same group, and within minutes, everything was decided. The groups marched ahead to face the beast tide.
The atmosphere was tense but resolute as the warriors moved in unison, their footsteps creating a rhythmic sound that echoed the city’s heartbeat.
As they reached their designated positions, Apollo glanced at his master, whose calm demeanour reassured him. The white cat, still following Apollo, seemed unusually alert, its eyes scanning the surroundings.
The distant rumble of the approaching beast tide grew louder, and the ground began to tremble. Apollo tightened his grip on his weapon, ready to face whatever came their way. The battle for Hunter City was about to begin.
They finally saw the sea of beasts, a terrifying horde filled with ferocious aura and bloodlust that sought to slaughter and destroy everything in its path.
The intensity of the aura was overwhelming. Many of the weaker soldiers felt their spirits waver, some even being hurt by the sheer force of it. They couldn’t help but tremble in fear. Seeing this, every group leader quickly made their move, using their spirit to shield and support their troops, helping them regain their footing and composure.
"Hold your ground!" Master Aaron’s voice rang out, strong and steady, as he reinforced the soldiers in his group with his formidable spirit.
Apollo could see the fear in the eyes of many around him. He glanced at Reid and his grandfather, both standing resolute, ready for the imminent clash.
The air was thick with tension, the roars of the beasts growing louder as they neared. The ground beneath them shook with each step of the advancing horde.
"Prepare for impact!" the blindfolded old man commanded from the front lines, his voice cutting through the chaos like a blade.
The warriors braced themselves, weapons drawn, hearts pounding. Apollo could feel the adrenaline coursing through his veins, sharpening his senses.
And then, with a deafening roar, the beast tide crashed into the city’s defences. The battle had begun.
Apollo didn’t use his sword, Frost Star, immediately, as it drained too much of his energy. Instead, he wielded a normal hundred-tempered sword, the best among ordinary-grade swords.
The first wave of beasts, mindless and driven by bloodlust, charged at the soldiers. Apollo was among those facing the onslaught. With his brilliant swordsmanship and lightning-fast speed, he began to slaughter the beasts, cutting and severing them as if they were mere fruits. In a single breath, he had already dispatched more than a dozen beasts.
Around him, the battle raged. Master Aaron and Old Man Aragon led a group of warriors and fought valiantly, their powerful strikes felling beasts left and right.
The sky darkened with the dust and chaos of battle, and the air filled with the cacophony of roars and clashes. Yet, amidst the chaos, Apollo maintained his focus, his sword a blur as he continued to cut down any beast that dared approach.
"Keep pushing! Don’t let them break through!" Master Aaron’s voice commanded a beacon of resolve amidst the pandemonium.
Apollo’s movements were precise and lethal. Each swing of his sword found its mark, and each step was taken with purpose. He could feel the heat of the battle and the thrill of the fight coursing through him.
Apollo, along with the other strong warriors on the battlefield, noticed a disturbing difference in the beasts’ behaviour. They were extraordinarily mindless and ferocious, completely disregarding their own lives as if they were lifeless zombies. This was unlike any usual beast tide they had encountered before. An eerie and ominous aura permeated the air, adding to the oppressive atmosphere.
Master Aaron, fighting nearby, called out to Apollo amidst the chaos. "These beasts... something’s not right! Stay alert!"
Apollo nodded, his senses heightened. He could feel the strange aura intensifying, pressing down on him like an invisible weight. Each beast he cut down seemed to exude this malevolent energy, making the battle even more daunting.
Apollo’s thoughts raced. The weird behaviour of the beasts, combined with the ominous aura, hinted at a darker, more sinister force at play. He remembered his earlier suspicions about the four gangs and their potential involvement in gathering corpses. Could they somehow be behind this unnatural tide?
But there was no time to ponder. A massive beast, larger and more ferocious than the rest, broke through the front lines, heading straight for Apollo. He tightened his grip on his sword and met the beast head-on. With a swift and powerful strike, he severed its head, but not before noticing its eyes—glazed over, lifeless, yet filled with an unnatural, dark energy.
Amid the chaos, Apollo caught sight of the white cat, the so-called "pussy king," watching the battle with an inscrutable expression. There was something in its eyes—a flicker of recognition or understanding. Apollo felt a shiver run down his spine. The cat knew something, something crucial.
But for now, all he could do was fight. Fight to protect this city, fight to uncover the truth, and fight to survive the nightmarish tide that threatened to consume them all.
Apollo was taken aback as the white cat suddenly nimbly landed on his shoulder, skillfully evading the attacking beasts. Before he could react, the cat began to whisper in his ear, using a strange technique that ensured no one else could hear their conversation.
"Kid, there’s a serious problem here," the cat murmured. "The beasts are all being controlled. Something must have happened to the beast generals, and then someone controlled all the beasts here."
Apollo’s eyes widened as the cat’s words sank in. The unusual behaviour of the beasts now makes sense. If the beast generals were compromised, it would explain the eerie, mindless ferocity of the attacking creatures.
"Who could do something like that?" Apollo whispered back, his voice tense. "And why?"
The white cat’s eyes narrowed. "It’s not easy to say, but whoever it is, they possess immense power. This kind of control requires a strong, dark, malevolent force. We need to find out who is behind this and stop them, or Hunter City is doomed."
Apollo nodded, his mind racing. He had a deep feeling it must be related to the four gangs. "Do you have any idea where we should start looking?"
"The source of the control will be somewhere close but hidden. It could be an artifact, a spellcaster, or even a corrupted beast. We need to get past this wave and find it," the cat replied.
Before Apollo could respond, a particularly massive beast lunged at him. He swiftly decapitated it with a clean strike. "We can’t let this continue," Apollo said, determination steeling his voice. "We need to get to the commanders and warn them."
He fought his way through the chaos, heading towards the nearest group leader, who happened to be his master, Aaron. As he approached, he called out over the din of battle.
"Master! There’s something you need to know!"
Aaron, in the middle of dispatching a beast, turned to Apollo. "What is it, Apollo?"
Apollo quickly relayed what the white cat had told him and what he thought behind it. Master Aaron’s expression grew serious. "If what you say is true, we have an even bigger problem on our hands. We need to inform the other leaders and organize a search for four gang leaders and the source of this chaos."
The battle continued to rage around them, but Master Aaron managed to communicate Apollo’s information to the other leaders. The gravity of the situation was not lost on them, and they quickly coordinated a plan to search for the source of the beast’s control.
Surprisingly, it was soon discovered that most of the four gang leaders were conspicuously absent from the battlefield. Only a few members of the gang were seen fighting amidst the chaos.
"This can’t be a coincidence," Apollo muttered, his eyes scanning the battlefield. "Those gang leaders must be involved in this somehow."
Master Aaron nodded, his expression grim. "We need to find them. If they’re behind this, they might be the key to stopping it."
