Chapter 94: Angelic Wave vs. Elemental Academy (1)
After entering the dressing rooms, just before crossing into the arena, Steward stared at them intently.
"Although we are not blind and know how to control our weapons, in this scenario, death is permitted, because that is what the system wants. Therefore, if anyone tries to kill you while you’re up there, I give you complete freedom to use whatever you want, if you so desire, and kill them. I will take full responsibility." He declared firmly.
Elliot, Jenna, and the others nodded.
"Don’t worry, Mr. Steward. If they try to kill us, I’m sure they’ll feel what it means to really fight," Elliot said, smiling coldly.
While he wasn’t sure he could win this fight, he was sure that if he used his trump cards, it wouldn’t be impossible to kill them, even though several of them seemed to be above Master Rank.
Steward nodded. "Good. Then go out there and show them what you’re made of. Remember our mission."
Finally, everyone entered the arena.
On the other side of the arena, the members of the Elemental Academy entered.
Four men and three women, each a specialist in their field.
They had a powerful tank, one of the Masters, an amazing Control Mage who controlled vines with magic, a secondary tank whose power was to destabilize, making the earth shake as a Resistance Mage, and two swordsmen whose skills were astonishing.
The latter two were no ordinary swordsmen.
They were Magic Swordsmen, and one of them was a Master Rank.
The team was rounded out by a Soul Mage who had not yet attacked and a fairly powerful assassin.
’Diverse variations,’ Elliot thought as he watched them.
They had people from each of the categories: Variants, Imaginers, and Fighters (also called the Skill System or Skillers).
The tank was a standard tank within the Fighter category, featuring a variation of Vitality and Strength stats, with Vitality as its primary stat.
The assassin also belonged to this category, being one of those with Strength + Agility (or perhaps Agility + Strength).
Magic Swordsmen also belong to this Fighter category, specifically to the last variation and one of the most peculiar: the variation that grants Strength and Sense as powers, focusing on magical abilities.
The Soul Mage belonged to the Imaginers category; nothing to say about it. They only have Sense as a stat.
Meanwhile, the Resistance Mage belongs to one of the variations of the Variants, specifically the Resistance Mage variation, which means they have Sense and Vitality as their primary stats.
Similarly, the Control Mage belongs to the same category, being part of the Variator Mage. In this case, the type of stats that are upgraded is unknown, as this variation is too broad.
Even so, they had people well-distributed within each category.
Meanwhile, they...
They had four Fighters: Jenna (possibly), Chris, Rich, and Andrew. With an additional Elliot who has only shown his Fighter abilities so far, so there could be five.
And two Variants, Philip and Andy, both centered on the same element.
’Certainly, the disadvantage will be brutal.’ But Elliot smiled despite knowing this.
Lately, he has been at a disadvantage every step of the way, which has helped him grow and improve.
That’s why he drew his sword.
Everyone else drew their weapons after that, and the counter on the TV started ticking.
No one present said a word; they were all focused on the mission at hand.
While the Elemental Academy team formed as soon as they arrived, the Angelic Wave team slowly formed as the counter above their heads reached zero.
BEGIN!
Just then, the temperature of the arena dropped dramatically, and everyone focused their attention on it.
There was no movement from either side; both parties seemed to be watching each other carefully.
Both stood calmly, staring at each other’s faces.
Angelic Wave had a peculiar open formation that didn’t seem to be anything noteworthy, and the Elemental Academy had a closed formation that appeared difficult to break through.
Elliot lowered his voice.
"Two minutes. If they don’t attack in two minutes, we’ll slowly proceed to change the formation a little." He whispered softly, something that only Jenna, standing in front of him, heard. But she made sure to relay it to the others, and in no time, everyone had heard.
Then patience struck them, slowly, the seconds seemed to pass.
’Are they protecting themselves from Jenna? It seems like what she did yesterday had a big impact on them,’ he thought.
Rich was already a little nervous; it wasn’t his style to stay still for so long, but the long sword (Jenna’s) that entered his vision out of the corner of his eye reminded him to stay calm.
So, the first minute passed.
A minute and a half...
Then something happened.
The tank in front of them swung his shield fiercely toward the ground and slammed it down, simultaneously as the Secondary Tank slammed his fist into the ground.
This happened at the same time as a strange, blinding light blinded everyone who looked at it. This light came from behind without warning, so everyone was bound to fall into it.
But then: "It’s blinding, turn around!" Chris shouted, quickly recognizing the attack.
Most acted on impulse and did precisely as Chris said, but Rich and Andy, the weakest, were still caught off guard and ended up blinded.
Immediately, a tremor spread to them, and three of them were strongly drawn to the tank’s powerful ability.
The Control Mage also astonishingly took advantage of this opportunity to launch his attacks, and soon, the three in front found themselves strangely trapped in powerful abilities.
It was only a moment, but these abilities quickly spread to all the members. Perhaps they had made a mistake in their strategy... They were ready to attack if anyone approached, but why would they need to approach when they could cast their abilities from a distance?
What they didn’t expect was that those guys’ attack range was so wide; as a result, they ended up falling into the trap.
Suddenly, the two magical swordsmen finally moved, and the assassin on their side vanished from the spot where he had been a moment earlier.
"Angelic Wave, being so arrogant, yet so stupid, let me send you to the Loser brackets once and for all!" The Magical Swordsman, whose rank was Master, smiled sinisterly.
He quickly reached Elliot’s side and swung his sword fiercely at him.
*CLANK*
The sound of two swords clashing rang out loudly, causing the man to be taken aback.
"Oh? Are you that good?" He finally managed to clear his vision a little and was shocked to see that the man he wanted to destroy was not in front of him.
’That woman? How did she get here so fast?’ he thought. He quickly looked for his original target and then realized that he was in the center, protecting the poorly positioned assassin, and striking the assassin who belonged to his team.
’What?’ While he was distracted, Jenna seized the opportunity to attack him fiercely with four simultaneous strikes, sending him flying backward.
At the same time, Elliot shouted, "Now, star formation!"
Andrew raised his hammer high and jumped into the air, landing between the two fire mages and the tank. His hammer hitting the ground affected the enemy tanks’ abilities.
At the same time, Chris had rushed out to face the other magic swordsman. The sound of swords clashing echoed, but the magic swordsman quickly gained the upper hand in the fight.
"Heh, though your silhouette reminds me of someone powerful, it seems you’re just a worthless impostor. Well, whatever." The swordsman quickly pushed Chris out of range with powerful, steady attacks.
Even so, all this bought them time. Once again, it was just a moment that allowed the members of Angelic Wave to quickly regroup and coordinate themselves effectively with each passing moment.
And the star formation, though imperfect, was complete.
Immediately, Elliot, Rich, who had managed to recover, Philip, and Andy lunged at the assassin who had remained in the center of the star.
But then they were stopped again by the Control Mage’s magical vines, and the two tanks came out to face Andrew directly, who could do nothing against the two abilities holding him back. They slowed down, and although Elliot managed to wound the assassin, it wasn’t enough to take him out of the battle before the swordsman fighting Chris lunged at him.
Elliot had to step back and duck his head to dodge that deadly attack.
"That’s a lot of murderous intent, little swordsman," Elliot said mockingly. His body completed a deadly backward movement, launching two successive attacks that fell upon the swordsman’s body.
His sword dug firmly into his flesh and managed to open a horizontal wound just above his belly in an instant before falling to the ground.
But then, the assassin who had managed to break free from Andy and Philip tried to stab him from behind.
Just then, in a lifesaving move, Chris appeared from the side, and his sword came between the dagger and Elliot’s body.
"I’ll help you."
Stopping the dagger was crucial, as Elliot was able to turn around using the momentum of his fall and deliver a decisive blow to the assassin’s chest.
’We can do this,’ he roared in his mind, with a smiling Chris at his side and Rich trying to tear apart the swordsman Elliot had wounded earlier alongside Philip and Andy.
Jenna was also quickly winning her fight against the Magic Swordsman.
But they seemed to forget something.
They weren’t fighting just those guys; they were fighting the whole team.
They were fighting a Soul Mage.
