Chapter 93: First Eliminated

Chapter 93: First Eliminated

Elliot observed them in the distance, and when he saw that they had decided to complete the mission, he felt more relaxed.

His idea of coming to hire Misfits arose recently, when he returned to the city and heard some of the things the Misfits had said that day.

Almost all the Misfits in the City are under the Clarks’ control, who believe they have total control over them. However, they can’t control some things, and Elliot knows this because he has been working with them for two years.

He understood perfectly what they were doing and also the kind of people they were: they all craved money.

For them, their god was money and nothing else. That’s why buying them with money was a good way to turn them around.

Unfortunately, he does not have the money to do so. He knows that between the Misfits and the Clark smuggling they handle daily, they move more than $4 million; he can’t compete with that level of power.

But, there are some things he can do.

One of these tactics is to try to win over individuals who work closely with the drug dealers, offering them easy tasks for top dollar on behalf of some organization. The Misfits lack any kind of information, so they easily fall for these lies that an Awakened One can tell them.

Therefore, it is easy for him to deceive them nowadays.

And deceiving a few every month is equal to achieving a significant change in three months. He was not looking for them to turn against the Clarks, because it was impossible for him at present; he was looking to make a name for himself among them so that when the time comes, they can be helpful in his plan.

It’s true that he would spend a lot of money, but if he does it right, it will be worth it. Additionally, in the future, this could be useful for him to establish contact with the government, as the people he’s sending to kill are all wanted criminals whose locations he knows. Most of them are Misfits who hide among the Misfit groups to avoid incarceration.

After hiring the first group, he moved stealthily among them and hired several more.

In total, about 85 people were hired, but not all of them were paid the same. He had about 113 people killed.

Nothing special.

After that night, Elliot returned to the guild headquarters.

That night passed quietly.

-

The next morning...

Loen City was once again ablaze with frenzy and festivities. The characteristic rockets filled the entire city, and every square seemed to be celebrating louder. However, in reality, there were fewer celebrations today, as some of the teams were on the verge of being eliminated.

Still, there would be good battles to watch today.

But the day didn’t start with good battles. Instead, it wanted to make those waiting to see if their teams would be eliminated suffer.

The first match between Hawk Fury and Golden Eagle was intense, with both teams giving their all to try to emerge victorious. However, the Hawks prevailed over the Eagles in a strong, competitive match that sent the surrounding area into a frenzy.

Both teams were more or less evenly matched, but the fight was decided by the good coordination of the Hawk Fury, who managed to do it splendidly this time.

That also showed the importance of Jenna yesterday in beating them, as, without her, they were able to beat a team with equal power today, perhaps they were a little inferior overall.

That left the first eliminated of the tournament, Golden Eagle.

Quickly after the first bout, came the second between The Cats and the Ashle Family.

Here, there wasn’t too much for the Ashle Family to do, even though they were very evenly matched in power. But the timing of The Cats was too impressive, to the point that they made The Ashle Family look like rookies.

Although they weren’t as powerful in terms of raw strength, they were already nearly equal to the Elemental Academy in coordination.

And speaking of Elemental Academy... they would fight to the end.

The next match was Clark Group vs. Broken Leaf in the Winners’ brackets. Here, it was decided who would go to the Losers’ bracket.

It was an exciting fight to watch, which received many bets, and where both showed a good match. Despite that, the Clark Group managed to pull off the victory without too much difficulty.

At the end of the bout, John Clark looked fiercely at Elliot, with a sinister smile on his face.

Elliot glared back at him.

"The Clarks seem to be hiding their power." Steward said suddenly.

Elliot looked at him. "Do you think they have power on par with the Elemental Academy?"

"Probably."

Elliot finally turned his gaze back to those in the arena and looked at the Clarks retreating after winning.

’...Quite a bit more powerful than I expected.’ He thought.

Although he knew that several of those guys didn’t really belong to the Family, it was possible that they even came from outside the City. Still, they were powerful enough to rival Jenna on a power level, which was dangerous.

’Looks like it was a good idea to try to hide my power until now.’ He thought.

His mission this time in the tournament was clear; while winning it was important, what he needed most was to kill John Clark, for that was where his revenge would begin. Of course, he could try to kill him outside of this one, but with Alexander Clark and other powerful people from the Clark Group hovering around him right now, it was hard to do so.

’And if I beat them and don’t kill him, it might be too hard to kill him later. Knowing those bastards, they may send him along with Tyler Clark.’

’My revenge has had to wait; this time, I have to kill him.’

While he was deep in thought, his companions had already started moving towards the arena.

"Elliot, are you staying behind?" joked Jenna, causing Elliot to move behind them quickly.

"Coming, coming."

As they made their way to the locker room, the Elementary Academy came across them.

"We crossed paths faster than we thought, little angels." Master Roy said, his mocking tone evident.

Steward stared at him and smiled.

"It would seem so."

"If you want me to suggest something, don’t even try. My little ones don’t know how to hold back when pitted against a system reject or those who relate to them. Blood could run today." The old man smiled as he walked.

Steward gave him a sidelong glance.

"Weapons don’t have eyes, but if those with eyes don’t know how to control them, then they are not worthy to walk one of the Arts of this world." He replied, smiling slightly. "Or have you already forgotten?"

Then he looked at the boys from the Elementary Academy.

"Or are they now transiting the Art of Killing? I heard it was a Forbidden Art, but now I’m curious what a student of the most prestigious Academy looks like, full of the blood of his peers."

After those words, Steward walked into the locker room and ignored old Roy’s words.

They would talk better on the arena.
