Chapter 83: Familiar faces

Chapter 83: Familiar faces

Jenna wasn’t too surprised, but Elliot had a moment of shock.

’...So this is how my life in a guild begins. 8 million dollars... I thought it would take me a long time to collect that amount, but it looks like my golden days are coming.’ He smiled and put his card away.

Steward then walked over to them. "Let’s go meet your teammates."

Then they all headed to the Training Hall, where some guild teachers were training the team that would participate in the Tournament of the Stars.

Before entering, Steward stopped.

"Although I permitted you to participate in the Tournament, these guys may not feel comfortable. We’re talking about a contract that was already signed for them to participate, and I’m stepping in. So, you need to convince them, perhaps in a slightly harsh manner."

He then saw them. "Do you understand what I mean?"

Elliot and Jenna smiled.

"Just leave it to us."

"Alright." Then, Steward opened the door, and they entered.

On the other side were seven teachers who looked powerful and experienced in different arts. Each one was walking a different path.

There was a Physical Fire Mage as the main attacker, a Resistance Mage as the tank, a Soul Mage, an Agility Mage as the assassin, an Illusionist, a Swordsman as the secondary attacker, and a Physical Archer in the distance, covering the Soul Mage and doing small bursts of damage.

The coordination between them was tremendous, to the point that they left the group of young people they were facing unable to defend themselves.

The way they moved reflected extensive combat experience and a high level of control over their powers.

When it was over, the Physical Fire Mage laughed.

"Hahaha, good one. You managed to last 30 seconds longer. That’s much better than last time." His friendly manner made the young men lying on the floor smile helplessly.

They were literally dragged away once again, even though they weren’t too far away.

Here, they understood that it’s not your talent but your experience and how you use your talent that matters. It’s useless to have great talent if you don’t know how to apply it effectively.

While they were talking, they soon noticed Steward’s presence, so they got up to greet him.

"Master Steward, it’s a pleasure to see you here," greeted the teachers.

"I brought two new members. They are the best we have at the moment, so they will be participating in the Tournament of Stars," said Steward, looking at the seven members who had already been chosen, although only five of them would enter the ring.

"Chris, Rich, and Andrew, you will be the ones participating alongside Elliot and Jenna this time. The other two members who were going to participate before will now be benched, and those who were already benched, I’m sorry. I will apologize to you and give you a raise in your monthly salary, but that’s how things will be for now," he said.

His words left most of the members in shock. "Mast..."

Before those who had suddenly been dismissed could speak, one of the members let out a loud cry.

"Elliot and Lady Jenna?!" This impertinent person couldn’t help but jump up and appear next to them to see them.

"You’re alive?" he asked.

Before realizing he had asked a stupid question.

"Hahahaha, you’re really alive!" He spoke again, not allowing the two to respond.

It was clearly Rich.

Neither Elliot nor Jenna expected to see this duo here. "Weren’t you supposed to be dead at the hands of those bastards?" Elliot asked strangely, as Rich was checking him, and Chris looked at him with an incredulous look.

"Hahaha, dead? No way, those bastards thought that attacking us from behind would kill us easily, but it seems they didn’t see that I was there. Hahaha." His manner of speaking hadn’t changed in the slightest, except that now, perhaps because of Steward’s presence, he was talking a little more quietly.

Despite that, his words echoed in Elliot’s ears.

Steward looked at them, a little surprised. "Do you know each other?" he asked Elliot.

"Yes. We met recently before we had to split up because of a certain guild,"

Steward immediately understood what he meant. ’I see, they were in the same group in the Broken Leaf trials,’ he thought.

Elliot looked at Chris then. "What happened at that moment?" he asked, since asking Rich was like listening to nonsense.

Chris seemed to smile when he saw them and approached. "I’m glad you’re both okay. That time, we escaped using a treasure. After that, we had to give up trying to get into Broken Leaf, and later we were approached by the managers of Angelic Wave, so we ended up here."

"I see. It’s good to know you’re okay."

"Haha. Obviously we are. Who do you think I am? After losing a bet with you, I wanted to collect, but then you disappeared. I thought I’d lost my money, but now I see you again. Let’s make another bet, Elliot. Let me get my $20,000 back!"

Elliot sighed and looked at Rich. "Why can’t you just be calm for once in your life?" he asked, to which Rich shrugged.

However, another person soon joined the conversation.

"A bet? What bet? I don’t remember anything like that." Jenna asked suddenly.

Elliot shuddered at her question and looked at Rich, shouting with his eyes not to say anything. Rich looked back at him but understood exactly the opposite.

"That time, Elliot and I made a bet about y..." Rich then lost the ability to speak when a hand covered his mouth from behind.

Elliot smiled and looked at Jenna. "It’s just a little bet we made before you got here. Nothing important."

"Ohh."

Although she thought it was suspicious, she didn’t pursue the matter. It was already good enough to know that they were alive.

Seeing the interactions between them made Steward smile a little. "If you know each other, then that means you have good chemistry, right? During the fights in the Arena, that’s the best thing that can happen. Good coordination can mean victory or defeat."

"Haha, Lord Steward, don’t worry. The four of us have enough coordination to defeat entire hordes of Rank D Orcs. We are more than qualified," said Rich.

But then...

"Master Steward. Even if they have good teamwork, it doesn’t matter. We have developed very good teamwork, and we have signed contracts. We are the ones who will participate in that tournament. What does it have to do with them?" asked the four who had been suddenly expelled.

Steward looked at them and sighed. "As I said, I will apologize for that and increase your wages. But this was a decision made by the guild. It cannot be changed."

"You..." One of them, the most temperamental, even raised his finger to point at Steward, but then lowered it, knowing he couldn’t do that.

’Damn it,’ he muttered and looked at Elliot and Jenna.

His eyes flashed intensely then.

"I can’t say anything to the Guild Master, but why not fight for the position? Coming in through the back door will never be looked upon favorably."
