Chapter 84: A very fast battle
Elliot nodded. "If you want us to fight for the position, then fine. Jenna and I can do it whenever you want."
The provocative young man smiled. "I hear you like bets, right? How about we bet our positions in the Tournament? You against me in a duel with Master Steward as the witness," he suggested.
"You alone?"
"Hm? Who else?"
"Your teammates won’t join you?" Elliot looked at them one by one. He didn’t just look at two of them; he literally looked at all four of them.
The two expelled and the two new bench players. The one complaining was one of the bench players, who had previously been part of the main group.
His gaze astonished them all.
"You intend to take on several at once? I think you’re either very arrogant or an idiot."
Elliot smiled and shrugged. He looked at Jenna, and she nodded without saying a word.
They both walked to the center of the training room, then grabbed some training swords arranged on the walls and proceeded to the spot where they had been training earlier.
"It’s the two of us against the four of you. I won’t be unfair to you; I can still reward you if you give me the chance to participate in the Tournament, as it’s very important to me. I’ll turn a blind eye to any provocation and give you a good reward. If you can’t do that, that’s fine, get up on stage." He spoke.
The four were shocked by his response and looked at each other.
Two against four?
Trusting Elliot’s words, they couldn’t tell if he was being arrogant or not, but the truth was that they were being provoked. And they were young men burning with a passion to compete. How could they pass up such a provocation?
The four didn’t even bother to think about how he might reward them. They all took the necessary steps forward and were soon face-to-face.
"Since you want it, you’ll get it. I don’t like to intimidate newbies with numbers, but you asked for it." The talker growled.
"Fine. Since that’s your choice, I hope you’re satisfied once the fight is over."
Both of them wielded their swords with one hand, facing forward, and the four in front of them took up fighting positions.
The talker was a swordsman, followed by a martial artist and two physical fire mages, one more focused on defense than the other.
"It looks like they’re really going to fight, Master." Joferth spoke.
Steward smiled. "I’m curious to see how these boys fare in combat. They’re strong, but how good are they at coordinating? Getting out of Tall-Or alive is no easy task, even for me."
Joferth looked at him, frowning. "You... you arranged for them to fight?"
"Hahaha." Steward simply laughed and continued watching.
One of the teachers acted as referee, dropping a coin on the floor.
When the coin hit the floor and its sound echoed through the room, the four leaped toward their opponents.
Elliot and Jenna stared at them and didn’t move immediately. They both waited for the four to come within striking range before making a fierce move against two of them: the two in the middle. The talkative swordsman and the Physical Fire Mage focused on defense.
The talkative swordsman struck his sword fiercely against Elliot’s, but suddenly felt his sword sinking toward him.
’So strong?’ In shock, the man tried to rectify his stance, but Elliot’s sword, which had managed to deflect his opponent’s sword, soon rushed toward his shoulder.
The talkative swordsman, in shock, tried to pull his shoulder back to mitigate the force of the impact, but suddenly realized that Elliot had released his sword into the air and immediately delivered a powerful blow to his stomach.
"BUAGH!" His body flew backward at great speed, hitting the nearby wall and flying out of the ring.
Naturally, he had lost.
And he wasn’t the only one. The Magician, focused on defense, had also been knocked backward.
But the fight wasn’t over.
Elliot soon felt the martial arts fighter on his left approaching him with a powerful blow. The previous blow had left him in an unprotected position, making it difficult to defend himself.
The four of them combined their attack despite being taken by surprise. Elliot could tell that they had trained together for a long time and had good timing, even in such high-pressure situations.
Still, he didn’t worry about that attack.
He managed to grab his sword again before it fell to the ground almost carelessly. Soon, he had the martial artist in front of him, and his blow was powerful. He was destined to hit him...
Or so it should have been, but suddenly this martial artist could see Elliot moving nimbly to one side, ready to face the remaining mage.
’Are they going to attack him together?’ he thought, but then... ’What about the woman?’ His face suddenly turned when he felt a strong impact in his stomach, and his body flew backwards, and then he understood.
’...They switched positions.’ He hadn’t expected that.
They had studied position swaps during combat a little and could do it well, to a certain extent. But this...
This was the pinnacle of that fighting style.
His body soon hit the wall behind him, and two seconds later, the physical fire mage was also knocked out of the area.
All four were knocked out in less than 15 seconds.
Steward, Chris, Rich, Joferth... Everyone was in shock.
’...Not only are they powerful in their own right, but they also know what their partner will do at the right moment. I didn’t even see them talking. Are they that connected?’ thought the tall, muscular man standing next to Steward, Andrew.
Steward then approached him.
"What do you think? As the Team Leader and the only Star Knight in the guild, you have a right to an opinion," he said.
Andrew nodded slightly.
"They’re very good at synchronizing. Their connection must be very strong."
Steward smiled. "If you say so, I’ll believe you, little observer. If that’s the case, then I feel more at ease. I’ll leave them in your hands."
Andrew sighed. "I’m just a junior, you don’t need to call me by that title. It was my father who was worthy of it."
"Hahaha, children can also receive titles if they are talented." Steward put a hand on his shoulder and nodded. "I got you the best ones for your team. Win this and go to the Main Guild. Prove that you are the son of that man."
Andrew nodded without saying anything else.
Then Steward walked over to where Elliot was standing.
"Mr. Steward, are you satisfied?" Elliot asked.
"Hahaha, I thought I had hidden it well, but since you knew, I’m glad you decided to show us what you’re capable of."
"I don’t think there’s anyone in Loen City who would dare to oppose Mr. Steward, so it was pretty obvious when they decided to confront you. I did it so there would be no doubt."
"If that’s the case, then I’m glad. Now I’ll say it." Steward looked at all the group members and the teachers present, then brought Andrew over to him.
"As you know, this is Andrew Koval, team leader. He will be leading you again in this Tournament, which will take place in a week."
"During this week, I hope you don’t focus on improving your stats. Instead, focus on improving your coordination. Let me tell you that in the next tournament, there will be people who have been working on team coordination for over a year. Beating them without preparation is impossible, so work on it."
"You only have a week, but with what I’ve seen today and with your strengths, I’m sure you can put on a great show. I hope that great Star Knights will emerge from among you. Without further ado, good luck."
The Master Steward then left, allowing them to train in peace. They only had a week, but it would be a very intense week.
