Chapter 61: Taking the risk
Chapter 61: Taking the risk
In any case, it was the only way he could think of to do it. The other option would be to run away and wait for Jenna to finish the fight, but that was almost impossible, if not impossible. How could he leave all the work to her?
He had to take a risk.
So, as he ran and dodged attacks, Elliot tried to feel the energy of attributes within him.
Red energy, green... blue. He discarded them all until he finally felt and saw that distinctive yellow energy.
Perhaps he was the only one who could do this, since he could perceive the colors of energy, so he was quickly able to select the energy he needed from within himself and separate it from the rest.
He didn’t need to move fast or have more strength; he just needed to hold on.
Using what he had learned recently about swordplay, Elliot began to feel the energy inside him materialize over his body.
The movement of his sword was smooth and controlled, and while he avoided the octopus’s attacks, he also took the opportunity to launch small, powerful strikes, which were not really intended to harm it, but simply to enhance the release of energy outward.
The problem was that he had to be careful because the diluted poison was falling all over the room and was being dragged back toward him by the tentacles, ready to be thrown again. There was no end to it, because this poison did not corrode the floor or walls, remaining intact as long as it did not touch skin.
This made it more difficult to achieve, and little by little, Elliot ran out of space, forcing his body to run slower and try to turn around quickly to run in the other direction.
In the distance, Jenna looked at him, confused. ’What is he doing?’ Thanks to her Dark Magic, she could afford to take her attention off the battle, but she was having a difficult time, even though she had a way to avoid the poison.
She couldn’t deal with the powerful attacks of the tentacles alone. There was a limit to her power and the capabilities of this sword. Despite being very durable and sharp, it wasn’t in good hands and didn’t have much penetrating power.
’We need coordinated attacks to break this powerful defense like before,’ she thought, looking at the tentacle that had been torn off, but then she realized it wasn’t there.
She trembled slightly and looked up.
"Elliot, watch out!" she shouted when she saw a tentacle that shouldn’t have been there attacking him.
Although she tried to move, she was suddenly attacked by a wave of powerful tentacles, just like Elliot.
But this one came from a blind spot. What’s more, the attack... carried poison.
His body slammed into a nearby wall, and two tentacles solely dedicated to launching poisonous attacks sprayed a cloud of poisonous water from a distance.
Six tentacles attacked, two sprayed poison. Three of the tentacles fought Jenna, and one was destroyed.
Or so it should have been.
Jenna immediately became concerned because she could clearly see that the tentacle they had cut off earlier had regenerated!
She tried to run to Elliot to help him. No matter what, that poison was deadly and extremely painful to any skin it came into contact with.
He would die in terrible agony with such amounts of poison being sprayed at him!
Her body moved quickly, finding gaps between the attacks she was receiving to get to him. Then, between attacks and quick, precise strikes, she suddenly saw two lights flash in her eyes, and suddenly, the image of Elliot materialized in front of her, attacking one of the tentacles.
He looked at her urgently. "Quick attacks to cut off several tentacles in succession! Don’t get distracted!" he shouted, despite the intense pain in his back from the previous attack. His mouth was still bleeding, and his body was still in pain, but a strange layer of energy surrounded his body in some places.
He hadn’t managed to envelop his entire body in energy, but it was enough.
"You..." Jenna didn’t know how to react because even though she saw that strange layer surrounding him, she didn’t understand exactly what it was. The only thing she understood was that he... was okay?
But before she could say anything else, Elliot shouted, "Quick!"
That finally brought her to her senses. She looked up again and counterattacked the tentacle that was attacking her.
It was a movement focused on a specific point: the center of the tentacle.
And as if Elliot had read her mind or as if they had trained this attack beforehand, he attacked from above the tentacle, seeking to weaken it so that Jenna could finally destroy it.
It was a perfect combined attack executed at the crucial moment. With their movements, they both dodged the attacks from other tentacles.
In seconds, the tentacle attacked by two adamantium swords was torn to pieces, and the other attacks struck empty air.
"Next one, quick!"
As they both ran toward the next one, Elliot took advantage of the moment to get closer to Jenna.
"Did you see how it regenerated?" he asked quickly, and she shook her head.
"I only saw it after it had already regenerated."
"Tsk. Let’s attack quickly, we have to see how it’s regenerating."
"If we attack with vertical spinning movements, we can destroy these two tentacles in a second. Can you do it? One each." She looked at him boldly.
She had taught him that attack technique before, but she knew he had difficulty using it.
Even so, right now, she felt that he had used the Sword Art differently and boldly. If he had the guts to do that, he should have the guts to make a risky but powerful attack!
"Are you challenging me?" Elliot looked at her curiously, and she smiled.
"If you can’t, then combined attacks..." Before she could finish speaking, Elliot suddenly started running extremely fast, leaving her behind as he headed toward the farthest tentacle.
"If I end up in a bad position, remember to come save me," he shouted.
Jenna was surprised by this, but she smiled. ’Good. That’s a man.’
Immediately, her eyes focused on the giant tentacle in front of her.
Then the adamantium sword jumped into her other hand, and a black sword lit up in her right hand.
"Time for a powerful, combined attack, Jenna White style."
