Chapter 60: Against a powerful Octopus
Chapter 60: Against a powerful Octopus
They finally understood what the swords they had been given were for.
"Shit... Do we have to fight this thing?" Elliot complained and took several steps back alongside Jenna.
"Octopuses aren’t very fast, and their tentacles aren’t very tough. At least that’s something." Jenna smiled.
"Sigh, but I think they forgot that we’re not that strong."
"Hehe, are you scared?"
"No. I feel like I can’t wait to fight this thing."
Jenna nodded. "But I think it’s as strong as the griffin. Or stronger."
"Hehe, I guess facing that bastard took away my fear." Elliot gripped the sword in his hand and raised it slightly, pointing it at the giant octopus in front of them.
"I suppose that’s true." Jenna decided not to draw her own sword, but instead took up a fighting stance with the new sword. "I feel more eager to live now. And since there’s no other way to do that but face him, I’ll defeat him."
Both were determined to fight, no matter what. Behind them, there was no longer a door to escape through; the only door they could reach was on the other side of the room, which they could only reach by facing this huge beast.
Maybe they would die from one blow... Maybe they would meet their end in just a few seconds.
It didn’t matter. Now they really had nowhere to run.
Before, they had kept running to escape the griffin and used all their resources to flee, but now there was nowhere to run. There were no resources they could use, and there was nothing they could do to escape. All they could do was fight.
The giant octopus in front of them was over 18 meters long, excluding its tentacles, so the difference between it and them was too great.
It soon seemed to finish its preparations and didn’t even give any signal. Immediately, its strange eyes fixed on its two adversaries, and one of its tentacles shook ferociously toward them.
Elliot and Jenna took a deep breath but did not back down. They immediately began to run toward it, their swords ready to strike.
When the tentacle fell upon them, they both moved in similar, perceptive, extremely fast, and astonishingly powerful movements, to the sides and forward, seeking to strike it in a combined movement.
The octopus, Elliot, and Jenna pushed fiercely, seeking to win the first encounter. Their fierce swords suddenly passed through, crossing to the other side. Their bodies suddenly filled with a characteristic blue blood that thrilled them.
Both looked back quickly and found that their swords had pierced and cut through that tentacle with terrifying ease.
"It’s for the Adamantium!" They both finally realized, their eyes shining with indescribable excitement.
But this powerful, unexpected onslaught from such small people enraged the octopus. Its tentacles suddenly shook, and some reached Elliot and Jenna, sending them into the walls in an explosion.
Its tentacles moved even more, causing the enormous channel of water passing beneath the spot to rise as if suddenly angry. Salt water splashed around, as it seemed to change color.
The previous crystal clear color soon turned into a heavy black as the octopus began to strangely spill a liquid from inside itself.
This darkened liquid jumped out of the water and made the octopus look terrifying, but that wasn’t its only function. When it fell in front of both opponents, they saw clearly what it was.
"It’s the octopus’s special poison: skin-corroding venom. We have to avoid getting it on any vital areas. I’m afraid its venom is highly dangerous to us at this size," said Jenna.
"Can your dark magic protect you from it?"
"It can for a limited time. What about you? Do you have a way to avoid it?"
Elliot frowned. Looking at the angry giant octopus in front of him made him want to test his limits in every way, because what other way did he have to win? If it weren’t for the last attack hitting the swords, he would have broken several bones just there.
There, he could see how powerful this octopus was. Maybe one of its tentacles didn’t have the strength of a Rank A, but if it combined them all, it might be able to overcome him. And don’t even get him started on the poison. Danger was imminent.
Elliot looked at Jenna. "Do you have a way to help me block it?" he asked.
Her answer was clear, but it didn’t come out of her mouth, only in the look in her eyes: she couldn’t do it.
Then he smiled.
"...I can’t use my summons yet. But I think I have a way to block them."
"Oh? Which one?" Jenna asked curiously, but before she could hear an answer, one of the powerful, long tentacles reached them and knocked them aside to separate them.
It wasn’t the only tentacle that attacked them. When Elliot jumped, he was forced to defend himself from another attack coming from another tentacle, which came from the side.
His sword was knocked away, and his body flew across the room, creating an explosion on impact. But he managed to escape quickly before another tentacle fell on him.
As he ran, he focused on dodging several jets of poison diluted with water, which was still deadly to them.
’I don’t know why it dilutes its poison in water, but thanks to that, I have a chance.’ Elliot smiled softly.
In an instant, the lessons Jenna had taught him about the sword flashed through his mind.
"The Path of the Sword is an art that does not depend on your strength, but on your heart and your understanding of it and your energy. The sword is not a means to kill, even though that is what it is used for.
The sword is rather an art that makes you one with energy.
That is why, unlike the Path of Magic, it is divided into ranks where you ascend in your understanding and combat power.
You also do so in your ability to use the Energy of Attributes within you."
"...I’ve been thinking about it since she told me. The ability to use the Energy of Attributes within me..."
It’s no secret that Stat Points are simply Attribute Energy concentrated in one spot through training, which then becomes one of the four types of power.
Similarly, it’s no secret that Attribute Energy is the very foundation of strength. Your body always has this energy inside, and when you attack with all your might, Attribute Energy allows you to use your internal stats. This is why the Misfits are a bit of a mystery to Elliot, as they can use these stats without needing any base energy.
But the Misfits are the least of his worries.
He has so much attribute energy inside him that even when he attacks with all his strength, he can never use it completely. Because of all this, he came up with a way.
What if, instead of attacking, you decided to create a defense? Suppose the attribute energy inside you is essentially your strength and is used in each of your attacks, and there is a color to differentiate each one. Why couldn’t you choose all the vitality energy inside you to create a defense on your skin?
It might not work against weapon attacks, magic, or similar attacks due to magical limitations and the limitations of attribute energy itself. Still, it could be very useful against corrosive attacks, such as poisons similar to those of the spiders in the goblin dungeon.
That’s why Elliot boldly decided to try it today.
