Chapter 51: Request
Chapter 51: Request
Minutes earlier...
Dizziness struck Elliot’s mind, and his system sent him several consecutive alerts.
[Danger. Player Elliot Clark is about to die.]
[DANGER] [DANGER]
The danger messages appeared before him, flooding his vision with system windows.
Even so, he paid little attention to them, as his mind was confused and dizzy.
Instinctively and in one swift movement, he took as many potions as he could from his inventory and swallowed them quickly.
’I’m going to die...’
His body began to feel heavy, to the point where he couldn’t open the system one last time. The potion bottles rolled across the floor, but due to the dust and the darkness of the night, no one saw them.
It was then that he finally regained some of his senses and got his bearings. He knew he was in danger or dead.
So he looked at his right arm, feeling terrible pain. There was a deep wound that went down to the bone and partially broke it. It also ran across part of his chest, but...
’Didn’t it kill me?’ He couldn’t help but wonder what had happened, but something on fire entered his field of vision, very close to his right arm. He diverted his attention to that spot.
His book was there, completely split in half, but still burning.
As he stared at it, the system, which had stopped sending danger messages when the potions took effect, suddenly activated.
[Unnamed Magic Book: Unusable, impossible to repair]
Finally, he understood what had happened and laughed.
’A little book saved us both, eh, little rat.’ He couldn’t help feeling grateful for his idea to throw the book. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be telling the story now, as that attack was meant to kill him, since his body couldn’t withstand a blow of such magnitude.
When his mind relaxed, it suddenly tensed again as he looked up. Although there was a lot of dust from the previous blows, he could see through it frighteningly and found that the Orc who had almost killed him was about to lunge at Jenna.
Fury ignited in his heart when he realized that a small beast had almost killed him. Although he felt ashamed of being called "Awakened," he wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to take revenge on this bastard.
So he gripped his sword tightly with his left arm and, despite not being particularly skilled with that arm, immediately stood up and lunged forward at the Orc by surprise.
His first unexpected blow struck the neck, opening a deep wound. The second struck the upper back, and the attribute effect of his sword activated, piercing the armor.
[Effect "Physical Armor Destroyer" activated]
The Orc trembled at the repeated attacks he suddenly received, not expecting them at all.
Elliot smiled coldly. "Even if I’m not as strong as her to pierce your armor with thrusts, my sword is your greatest enemy!" He growled and attacked him repeatedly from blind spots until he literally ran out of stamina and launched a final attack at his head.
[You have killed a White-Skinned Orc Warrior...]
The announcement from the system visibly relaxed him, and he smiled, but he then lost all strength and fell backward.
That’s when Jenna reached him and caught him before he fell.
Elliot smiled softly, blood everywhere, but having won the fight. Despite that, he didn’t seem happy to have won. Instead, he stared at Jenna and asked her a bold question.
"Jenna... You... Can you teach me... how to use a sword?"
Jenna hadn’t expected that to be the first thing he would say, just as she hadn’t expected Elliot to kill as many enemies as she had, almost at the same time. But she understood what he meant.
So she smiled. "Of course, it’s not right for me to say so, but I am a Sword Master, in my own right."
Elliot responded with a smile, but he was so exhausted that he didn’t want to talk anymore. Finally, he gestured to indicate that he needed to rest...
---
A few days later.
After Elliot recovered, thanks to the many potions that a rich young woman like Jenna had, the two began to venture boldly into the Tall-Or Forest.
Their speed increased as their stats grew a little, but unfortunately, they had many stats and didn’t always receive the same stats, so they couldn’t easily defeat the Orcs.
Now, Elliot learned that Jenna was much better with a sword than he had imagined. It is well known that in this world, there are several levels that a swordsman can achieve, ranging from:
Novice. Beginner in swordsmanship. Swordsman. Master Swordsman. Grand Master and Emperor. There may be more, but those are the ones Elliot knows.
Among all of them, Jenna is at the level of a Master Swordswoman, which is incredibly impressive for her age.
To put it in context, there are no Master Swordsmen in Loen City, and there are only two in all the Coastal Cities of the Arce Kingdom surrounding Loen.
One is in Agora, the Lord of the City, and the other is in the City of Zargo, the most powerful of the Coastal Cities, and those two are over 50 years old. Having awakened at the age of 14, they have spent more than half their lives practicing the art of swordsmanship to get there, which has earned them a ridiculously high status in the Coastal Cities.
But Jenna, at 16, is already in that category. While part of this is thanks to her Class, her innate talent, and hard work to reach such heights cannot be overlooked.
After all, it’s useless to have a majestic Class if you don’t know how to take advantage of it, and a perfect example of this is John Clark, whose skill is impressive, but he lacks the talent to match it.
Thanks to Jenna’s great sword mastery, Elliot could quickly learn the art of sword fighting, at least get started, but he would probably only be considered a Novice right now.
