Chapter 76: Ember

"But, of course, it can’t be compared to mana aura. It is just an instinct we feel from you after you obtained a high rank class suited for you. Simply put, only us, beasts, are affected."

Kaiju sighed helplessly. "So, does that mean I won’t be able to fight them at all?"

"I guess so."

The other serpents were not aware of the conversation between Herforao and Kaiju as they were also communicating with each other. Finally, their conversation concluded, and it was not Number 3 who was about to speak, it was the serpent on the first right, obviously Number 1.

"Alright, I am willing to follow you on his stead, human–on account of Master Herforao."

"Are you sure? Aren’t you the strongest in Herforao’s rank and also the most loyal to him?"

"That is the reason why I am willing to follow you." He lowered his head with a downcast expression and continued, "I may not be useful to the Master in the future, so it is better to be useful on his other plans. Since you have gained his trust, it doesn’t hurt to feel the same way towards you."

Kaiju’s eyes widened, smiled, and nodded. He scrutinized Number 1 and his scales were light, some deep, red. Number 1 having an affinity with the fire element was not surprising. He would surely possess lethal offensive abilities.

I think he is better paired up with Faith... Should I? Kaiju instantly changed his mind when the image of Faith, trying to convert him to her religion, manifested. He shook his head. We shall see if Number 1 wants to, if he does not, I will respect his decision.

"Alright." Kaiju nodded. "Since you possess fire mana, I will call you Ember. Do you like it?"

Number 1 kept his solemn and matured countenance but his tails wagged enthusiastically. He nodded.

Kaiju smiled. "I’m glad you liked it."

{Congratulations. *Yawn.* You have tamed another beast.

Luck has played a part, luck you. You have obtained 100 Luck Points.

100 Luck Points is being multiplied ten times...

Congratulations. *Yawn.* You have obtained 1000 Luck Points.}

"Stop slacking off, will you?" Kaiju said in his mind. He suddenly recalled something and continued, "Why won’t you finally give me a mission?"

{Hmm. I can not issue yet. I don’t know why. Just wait for a bit.}

Kaiju nodded. Show me Ember’s status.

{Ember: [Infernal Serpent] (Corrupted Rank.)

Description: One of the oldest and most powerful soldiers in Herforao’s rank. Often acts as his spokesperson and now, catching something from his Master, he has decided to follow you. You better make use of him.

Abilities:

Inferno Spit: Ember unleashes a high-pressure jet of molten fire that spreads upon impact, setting everything in its path ablaze.

Ash Cloak: Ember releases a dense shroud of ash, smoke, and embers into the air, choking and blinding enemies in the area.

Scorching Coil: Ember wraps around its target, superheating its body to extreme temperatures that ignite flesh, armor, and even metal.

Hellfire Frenzy: Ember enters a berserk state, radiating intense heat that scorches everything in its vicinity. It moves with blinding speed, leaving trails of fire and ash as it relentlessly attacks.}

Kaiju exhaled a ton of air. As expected of the strongest Corrupted rank beast under Herforao. He even wanted to fight him badly. He went to assess Ember and discerned a dangerous aura emitting from him. Kaiju might not have reached the limit of the Awakened rank, but he was already confident he could contend against them. However, with Ember’s presence, he began to doubt now.

He shook his head. It’s just a pre-assessment. Who really knows the outcome when we battle?

’Can I view Ember’s attributes?’

{You can’t. You tamed him in an instant, so the Gacha System lacked complete information about him. In addition, only Beastmaster’s Title would trigger such effects.}

I see. I have to convince him to enter the master and pet contract. Kaiju shook his head. He was aware it would be impossible to achieve, knowing how loyal Ember was. The moment he had become a pet of Kaiju, it was no different than abandoning his parents, who he owed a lot.

Kaiju was somewhat disheartened but he quickly calmed himself down. He snapped awake and perceived the other two serpents vanished, leaving behind the other three, who were now waiting for his command.

He smiled at them and said, "We will be leaving now. You will be meeting your possible new master in a week. So, be prepared."

The three serpents nodded. They turned and faced the colossal trunk and bumped their forehead to the ground. They shouted at the same time, "THANK YOU, MASTER!"

They knew, at this moment, they might not be able to meet Herforao anymore. They were not dumb–Herforao making such an arrangement conveyed the chaos inside their world was about to erupt, that even their powerful master was helpless.

They held back their tears as memories began to flood on their heads. Herforao was so kind to them, he even went to save them from the assault of the other higher races. Even before they ascended to the Corrupted Rank, when Herforao noticed their unusual intelligence, they were taken care of by him.

They owed Herforao their life, and now, they were about to leave him. They suddenly felt unwilling to abandon him but they remained firm on their decision. They might not be able to help Herforao, but they could do so in another way. Only through Kaiju did they think they were able to do so.

Herforao guffawed and replied, "You guys need to see the new world. Ignore the other two, they will regret their decision."

Ember shook his head and said, "They will not, Master. No one among us will regret dying for you."

Heforao went silent and did not reply. Instead, Herforao said to Kaiju, "Take care of them, let them see the world outside of this goddamn Trial."

"Understood." Kaiju nodded solemnly. "If you want, I can even return them back to your main body."

"No need. You better be able to help them survive first."

Kaiju was instantly reminded of the difficulty of the Trial, so he nodded with a grave countenance. He stared at the three serpents, taking their time for more than an hour, until they were finally able to be convinced by Herforao to leave with Kaiju.

As Kaiju stepped foot outside of Herforao’s domain, he glanced back once again, mumbling, "This will not be our last meeting."

Herforao, on the other side, smiled, and replied in a hushed tone, "It will not be."

Kaiju did not need to hear his words to receive his reply.
