"W-What do you mean by that?" Kaiju was stupefied.

"You seriously don’t know about the Trial, don’t you?" Herforao shook his head. "Perhaps, the other humans did not tell you about this. Alright, let’s discuss why Trials can be bloody, why do you think so?"

Kaiju pondered and replied, "Because they kill each other."

"Obviously." Herforao rolled his eyes. "Even Normal Difficulty is not an exemption."

Herforao went silent, desiring Kaiju to contemplate it more. Kaiju ruminated for a while and his eyes suddenly widened.

"My teacher used to warn us that if we ever come across other higher races no matter the difficulty, we must avoid interacting with them, better, kill them. After all, the rewards of the Trials are based on the races’ contribution and individually."

Herforao smiled and nodded.

"However, the Trial specifically asked me to offer the treasures to the other higher races I want to obtain affinity with. After all, that is how our races manage to ascend the Tower due to our meager potential. One of our Ascendant even became a half-vampire!"

Kaiju remembered his conversation with Griffin. The latter revealed his father was a half-vampire and he carried his bloodline. This was why Griffin had a bloodline awakening, but he never used it inside the Trial, not even once. Griffin was afraid to dilute his mother’s bloodline with the revolting blood of his father who clung with the blood of the other higher races to become stronger.

"The Trial gave rules but it welcomed those who dared to break it. It is already merciful to you humans to lower the difficulty, even though it is already hellish to begin with, it did not even think once you can defeat Vladislaus." Herforao grinned. "Of course, as it welcomes those who break the rules, it punishes them with heavy consequence, as well. As always, if you still manage to overcome it, you will be rewarded handsomely."

Kaiju fell into deep thought.

Herforao continued, "Do you know the mission of the other higher races? It is for them to cooperate with each other and defeat Vladislaus." His lips curved upward. "However, will they cooperate with each other, though? They can’t kill each other after they kill Vladislaus as it will instantly conclude the Trial. Chances are, they will begin to target each other as they heed inside the burg, who manages to kill Vladislaus first will obtain the highest quality rewards."

Kaiju slowly recalled his conversation with Qwanisha. The latter always acted strangely and Kaiju, unsurprisingly, failed to catch on. He slowly realized Qwanisha was not only being cautious against the other higher races, but she was planning to fight against them as well.

"You need to be stronger, Kaiju. You have to." Her words lingered on his mind repeatedly.

Kaiju grinned. He clenched his fist tightly and his body began to tremble. For some reason, he was afraid, but, at the same time, looking forward to it–to fight against the other higher races to obtain the highest quality rewards. If the human race won, it would benefit them immensely. The human race could progress much faster and stand at the top of the food chain!

"I see. I understand it now." Kaiju nodded. "I will have to be careful against her once we snatch the treasure and proceed inside the heart of the burg. After all, the Trial would inform the other higher races about our changes in the mission and they might target us all. That woman, whom I don’t want to refer to as Lucy, might appear in the crucial moments, annihilating us once and for all."

Herforao smiled. "You got it, Kaiju. However easy it may seem, you have to be well-prepared. You have to be strong enough in the Corrupted Rank realm."

Kaiju nodded. His eyes flashed with decisiveness and determination. "What are the ranks of the other higher races?"

"There are no Overlord ranks among them, but there are some who are almost there. They can partially exude a mana aura."

Kaiju was stunned. He asked, "How do you counter a mana aura?"

Herforao shook his head. "You can not. Unless you have a Pseudo-Epic grade artifact that negates the oppressive effects of mana aura."

Kaiju nodded. "I just have to overwhelm them, then."

Herforao was stunned, blinking his eyes, and exploded in the hoot of laughter. "You are right. You are a Beastmaster, after all. You don’t fight alone, you can rely on them, too."

Little Gorilla was finally finished gathering all the treasures, landing them in a heap. Kaiju scrutinized each treasure and his Edible Plant Identification skill activated whenever it landed on the fruits.
